Chapter 1087: Newbie Players Make Fools of Themselves (First Update)
Chen Mo and Li Jingsi watched helplessly as those two low-level characters charged into the Deadmines, only to quickly turn into two corpses.
Before long, two ghosts drifted back, found a spot with no monsters to resurrect, and pulled out rations to start eating.
Chen Mo was sitting nearby, about to call people to run the dungeon, when he overheard these two newbies munching on food while figuring out how to get inside.
The Mage handed the Paladin a few pieces of Magic Bread. "I saw online that there's a dungeon here, inside that little house."
The Paladin ate while worrying. "But, bro, there are so many monsters. What do we do?"
The Mage pondered. "What if we just charge straight in? Once we get into the dungeon, these monsters should stop chasing us, right?"
The Paladin shook his head vigorously. "No way, didn't you see just now? These monsters hit hard. They killed me in just a few hits."
The Mage carefully observed the surrounding monsters, as if planning a route. "I think the main problem was our approach earlier. Look, if we resurrect right inside this cave, can't we slowly push forward bit by bit?"
The Paladin was stunned. "Bro, you're a freaking genius! But what about our equipment durability..."
The Mage patted the Paladin on the shoulder. "Buddy, don't worry. Worst case, we repair it when we get out. It won't break."
The Paladin nodded firmly. "Alright, bro, I'll listen to you. Let's try it!"
So the two of them ate to restore their health, then charged headlong back into the tunnels of the Deadmines.
Just like the Wailing Caverns, the Deadmines had a long stretch of winding paths before reaching the actual dungeon entrance, and the tunnels were interconnected, making it easy to get lost.
Chen Mo and Li Jingsi exchanged glances and silently mourned for these two guys for three seconds.
Li Jingsi stroked the newly tamed panther beside her. "How about we save these two brothers?"
Chen Mo nodded solemnly. "Mm..."
They could already foresee what was coming next for these two. Reaching the dungeon entrance was impossible—it would never happen in a lifetime. There were too many monsters in front of the entrance, and these two, one at level 10 and the other at level 8, could only keep corpse-dragging endlessly in there...
And when these two idiots actually made it to the dungeon entrance, they'd discover a brutal truth.
The Mage could enter the dungeon, but the Paladin was only level 8 and couldn't even get in...
And even if the Mage did get inside, he wouldn't be able to defeat even the first mob, because all the monsters in the dungeon were elites.
To avoid losing two potential World of Warcraft players, Chen Mo and Li Jingsi decided not to rush forming a group first. Instead, they went to rescue these two classmates.
They fought their way in from the entrance of the Deadmines, clearing monsters while searching for the corpses of these two brothers.
Chen Mo was a Mage, and Li Jingsi was a Hunter—both classes that made killing monsters easy. Plus, their skills were on a cheat-level, so there was no difficulty at all. They quickly found the two brothers' corpses.
To be fair, these two guys' corpses were actually pretty far inside. Give them another ten minutes, and they might have actually pulled off this feat.
"Wow, saviors are here! Would you two be willing to team up with us? We want to run the dungeon," the Mage said cheerfully.
Chen Mo paused for a moment. "Uh, can I ask why you want to enter the dungeon first?"
The Mage: "To level up!"
You've got a damn good point there—isn't that exactly why people run dungeons?!
Chen Mo explained, "The best way for you to level up right now is to do quests."
The Mage shook his head vigorously. "I hate doing quests. NPCs are hard to find, and the quest text is so long. I can't be bothered to read it."
Chen Mo: "..."
Li Jingsi: "..."
Well, that's a pretty straightforward reason.
Chen Mo said, "But the monsters in the dungeon are all elites. You two can't beat them."
The Mage was stunned. "Elites? What are elites?"
Chen Mo: "..."
Li Jingsi: "..."
Alright, these two are textbook newbies.
Chen Mo patiently explained, "Elites are stronger monsters. They have more health and hit harder. With just the two of you, you can't handle them."
The Mage was a bit disappointed. "Oh... so we can't run the dungeon?"
Chen Mo said, "You can, but you need a full group of five people, and everyone should be at least level 15 or so."
The Mage nodded thoughtfully. "Oh, I see. Thanks for the info, bro!"
Chen Mo smiled. "No problem. If you want to run the dungeon, you can add me as a friend. I'll help you out when I have time."
The Mage was overjoyed. "Really? That's awesome! Thanks, bro!"
Chen Mo added the two of them as friends, then watched them log off.
Li Jingsi asked, "Why didn't you just tell them directly that they can't run the dungeon at their level?"
Chen Mo smiled. "Because that's the beauty of World of Warcraft. New players making fools of themselves is part of the experience. If you explain everything to them, it takes away the fun of discovery."
Li Jingsi nodded thoughtfully. "I see."
Chen Mo continued, "Actually, the most fun part of World of Warcraft is the early stages. Everything is new and fresh. You don't know anything, and you make all kinds of mistakes. But that's what makes it memorable."
Li Jingsi smiled. "Yeah, I remember when I first started playing, I didn't even know how to use my skills properly."
Chen Mo laughed. "Same here. I remember when I first played, I thought the best weapon was the one with the highest damage, so I equipped a two-handed sword on my Mage."
Li Jingsi burst out laughing. "That's hilarious!"
Chen Mo said, "Yeah, but that's what makes it fun. You learn as you go, and every discovery feels like an achievement."
Li Jingsi nodded. "You're right. So, should we form a group and run the dungeon?"
Chen Mo said, "Sure, let's call a few more people."
So Chen Mo called three more people to form a group and run the Deadmines. Under his command, the dungeon was a breeze, basically a straight sweep.
Although the other three teammates had mediocre gear, having Chen Mo and Li Jingsi, two bugs, made up for it.
The boss fell with a scream, and the Gnome Warrior scurried over to loot the equipment.
"Wow! A blue ring!!"
The drop was a blue-quality [Luxury Jewelry Ring]. Except for Li Jingsi, who passed, everyone else clicked Need.
In the end, Chen Mo lost to the Warrior by 2 points.
Li Jingsi was a bit confused. "Uh..."
Chen Mo smiled and shook his head. "It's fine."
The Warrior happily equipped the ring, and the other two congratulated him. "Wow, Warrior, you're so lucky! Congratulations!"
The Warrior was also delighted, clearly unaware that as a Warrior, he didn't need Intelligence.
Chen Mo smiled too. He didn't bother explaining to the Warrior that the ring was meant for magic classes.
Because he remembered his own clueless self from many years ago.
That was the most beautiful memory of gaming, wasn't it?
