Chapter 321 – Formless
Everyone present froze at those words.
“Still, I can’t blame you. I’ve used this Forbidden Ruin for so many years it’s only natural you’d misunderstand—after all… it really is handy.”
Wu “Old Dog” spoke slowly, walking up to Lin Qiye and clapping him on the shoulder.
Lin Qiye stared blankly, not sure what the man was up to.
After the first pat Wu “Old Dog” froze, his expression odd. He hesitated, patted again, froze again, patted a third time… then fell into deep thought.
“Just how many Forbidden Ruins do you have?” he couldn’t help asking.
Lin Qiye pondered. “Give me a second to count…”
Wu “Old Dog”: …
“Forget it, this one’ll do.” He waved it off and turned to the two bewildered Believers. “Let me show you my real Forbidden Ruin…
【Formless】.”
His eyes were swallowed by pitch-black; a perfect darkness erupted outward, devouring every ray of light. The night sky sagged to meet the black beneath his feet, abyss-deep.
Ground, sky, leaping flames, ruined buildings, distant chaos—everything vanished. Half the Purification Chamber lay submerged in absolute dark; only Wu “Old Dog” himself kept his original color.
He stood there like a sovereign of night.
“This… is the 【Ruin of Utmost Darkness】?” Lin Qiye gazed at the familiar black, sensed the aura of the Night Goddess within it, then jerked his head up, shock blazing in his eyes!
He’d copied his God’s Ruin?!
Not far away, Fourth Seat’s face turned ugly. “【Formless】?! It’s actually 【Formless】…”
“What is 【Formless】? Isn’t his Forbidden Ruin 【My Dream】? What the hell is all this darkness?” Sixth Seat demanded.
“Among all Forbidden Ruins, the top thirty touch the realm of gods. Twenty-three are divine gifts—God’s Ruins. The remaining seven don’t come from gods at all; they arise from humanity itself…” Fourth Seat stared at Wu “Old Dog” and spoke slowly.
Sixth Seat caught on, incredulous. “His Ruin is one of those?”
Fourth Seat nodded. “Sequence 028 of the Forbidden Ruins, one of the seven Great King Ruins—【Formless】. It perfectly copies the last Ruin its user touched and raises it to the user’s own level. Not just Forbidden Ruins—God’s Ruins too, though the copy isn’t one-hundred percent.”
“King Ruin… impossible.” Sixth Seat glanced at Lin Qiye. “He just touched the dual-god agent Lin Qiye, so what he’s using now is…”
“The Night Goddess’s God’s Ruin—and it’s half-step Klein level!” Fourth Seat said grimly.
Sixth Seat sucked in a breath.
Wu “Old Dog” stood in the night, shooting Lin Qiye an odd look.
Originally he’d meant to copy Lin Qiye’s 【Mortal Divine Realm】—rank 003, terrifyingly strong—but every draw came out weird.
First try: 【Starry-Night Dancer】—decent, yet too limited.
Second: 【Skyward Bard】—a disaster; he’d barely attended school, so battling through poetry was a joke.
Third time finally gave him 【Ruin of Utmost Darkness】. Not as good as 【Mortal Divine Realm】, but acceptable; he’d make do. Who knew what bizarre Ruin the next grab would bring?
【Formless】 can only keep one copy at a time; if he drew again, the darkness would vanish. And judging by the kid’s face, who knew how many more Ruins were hidden in there?
With one of the seven Great King Ruins, Wu “Old Dog” had always considered himself a freak—until today, when he learned what “freak” really meant.
Kid, did you buy your Ruins wholesale at the vegetable market?!
Lin Qiye had no idea he’d just dealt the old man a crushing blow; even if he had, there was nothing he could do—he really did have that many:
【Mortal Divine Realm】, 【Starry-Night Dancer】, 【Ruin of Utmost Darkness】, 【Summoning Magic】, 【Transformation Magic】, 【Skyward Bard】… six in total, three of them God’s Ruins. Wu “Old Dog” had needed three draws just to hit one—lousy luck.
He narrowed his eyes at the two Believers and slowly stretched out a hand, jerking it toward Sixth Seat!
The man’s pupils shrank; every hair stood as death rushed at him. He lurched half a step aside.
Darkness bit into his body anyway—arm and torso ripped apart in an instant!
It was like an invisible giant hand tearing a stuffed toy: no resistance, body split in two.
Blood fountained.
More than flesh split—earth, buildings behind him, even the heavy clouds overhead tore apart.
Boom—!!
Shredded steel collapsed. A two-meter-wide ravine gouged the ground behind him; under the black sky the cloud layer had been sliced in two, the seam stretching to the horizon.
“AAARRGHH!!” Sixth Seat screamed, his howl rolling through the night.
One move and Wu “Old Dog” had crippled a Limitless-realm expert.
Fourth Seat’s face went livid. He thrust both hands back at the ruined buildings; massive metal frameworks rose, were whittled into huge sharp spikes, and rained down on Wu “Old Dog”!
At the same time the ground beneath the old man quaked; buried pipes burst up like pythons, coiling round his body, pinning him.
Hoisted by those pipes, Wu “Old Dog” was yanked into the air, crucified on a steel cross, awaiting judgment.
