Chapter 614: CG Double Feature

The video ended here.

Actually, there was still a long segment after this in the original video, but Chen Mo was pressed for time and hadn't finished it yet.

However, the plot of these two segments was relatively separate anyway, so releasing them separately wasn't a big deal and wouldn't affect the players' understanding of the game content.

This opening CG stirred up a thousand waves with a single stone, quickly sparking heated discussions among the player base!

"What the hell? This time it's a modern warfare theme? Serent's shift is pretty big!"

"Yeah, I don't recall him doing much modern warfare stuff before. Is this a test run?"

"Courage to surpass himself, I like it! But the story seems to be set abroad? Uh, looks like it's an apocalypse, zombie theme? And there's the military..."

"Heh, if it were set domestically, it definitely wouldn't pass censorship. Even an honorary committee member would get it shot down..."

"But I still don't quite get it. How do you mow down enemies in a modern warfare theme?"

"This protagonist clearly has superpowers! Look, he jumps off that tall building without a scratch, can jump that high, and even leaves a crater when he rolls on the ground!"

"Right, right! And that scene where he runs vertically up the side of a building totally blew my mind. Newton's coffin lid can't hold that down anymore!"

"Heh, Chen Mo already nailed Newton's coffin lid shut, thanks."

"Feels a bit like a superhero thing? A mutant? But he seems morally ambiguous, not like a proper superhero."

"That's what makes it cool! That outfit is really well put together. Where can I buy it... Will there be merchandise? I'm pre-ordering that outfit!"

"The feeling of scaling walls and leaping roofs is awesome! Kinda like parkour... Wait, this game is a VR game, right? If they can really replicate the wall-climbing effect from the video, that would be amazing..."

"This looks so awesome! Chen Mo, hurry up and work overtime; we want to play it next month!!"

This video instantly ignited a wave of anticipation among players for Chen Mo's videos. On one hand, it was because the theme was appealing, and on the other... how cool was it!

This video hadn't revealed any of Alex's combat abilities yet, just hinting at his power from the sidelines. Besides that, there were thrilling parkour shots.

Just imagining weaving through steel-and-concrete buildings in VR mode, even climbing straight up various skyscrapers, got players excited.

After all, after playing Dark Souls for so long, the undead's knees had become a running joke.

Not only could they not climb over knee-high ledges, but jumping from even slightly high places caused damage or death from falling. All sorts of weird terrain kills had become a major source of suffering for players...

But look at this protagonist!

Climbing walls? No problem!

Falling to death? Doesn't exist!

Many players were starting to believe that Chen Mo had actually made a lawn-mowing game. At least from the game mechanics, there were plenty of elements that made players feel good.

However, many players also promptly poured cold water: "Right, this time everyone will be playing as a modern urban undead whose knees can bend and who won't die from falling!"

"Heh, you see a video and believe this is a lawn-mowing game? Remember the trial video for Dark Souls? Serent's plans are cunning. First, he lures you in, then he sets the monster difficulty however he wants..."

The previously happy players felt a sinking feeling again. Yeah, no matter how cool the video looked, if the enemy tanks could take out a player in three shots, that would be awkward!

Players split into two factions arguing endlessly, but soon, the second video came out!

And this time, the content left all players dumbfounded!

...

Under the cover of night, the military had set up a blockade in the city. Soldiers were searching for something.

"Ghost 39 calling ground. Have you spotted the target? Over."

"Negative."

The soldiers searched around, but everything was quiet.

Just then, a woman stumbled out of the nearby ruins: "Help! Help!"

Behind her, many mutated zombies, sensing the scent of living humans, charged straight at the soldiers!

These zombies didn't look like typical ones. Though ragged, they had solid muscles, grayish-white skin, and moved swiftly. Their strength should also far exceed that of ordinary humans.

"Zombies! Open fire!"

The fully armed soldiers quickly formed a defensive line, precisely picking off the charging zombie horde.

A hail of bullets rained down. The zombies let out vicious howls but soon fell before the soldiers' blockade.

The last zombie climbed up from the pile of corpses, trying to advance, but was quickly shot in the head.

After confirming all zombies were eliminated, the commander lowered his gun: "Targets neutralized. Move forward! You, come with me."

The commander and a soldier stayed behind, approaching the beautiful woman who had escaped earlier.

"She's infected too," the commander said.

The soldier beside him raised his pistol, aimed at the terrified and confused woman, and pulled the trigger.

Bang! The woman fell.

But just then, the soldier suddenly noticed someone else nearby—a man in a hooded jacket.

Alex!

"It's him!!"

Both soldiers raised their guns at Alex as if facing a great enemy, their voices filled with fear as they backed away.

Alex's face was expressionless. He spread his arms, and a rust-red mist spread from his forearms. His hands instantly transformed into gleaming, cold steel claws!

Alex moved like a phantom. Before the soldiers could fire, his claws had already plunged deep into one soldier's abdomen.

The surrounding soldiers aimed and fired frantically at Alex, but amidst the hail of bullets, Alex moved as if strolling through a garden, slaughtering everyone. His claws effortlessly tore the nearby soldiers to shreds!

One soldier was thrown high into the air. Alex's claws slashed downward, cutting him in two!

Though the scene flashed by, many players felt a jolt and couldn't help but yell, "Holy crap!"

A nearby soldier fired a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher at Alex. Alex's right arm instantly transformed into a broad blade, blocking the rocket like a shield.

Bursting through the smoke, Alex leaped high, his right-arm blade slashing downward as if cleaving the soldier in half!

Boom!!

Another rocket hit Alex directly, blasting him into the ruins and kicking up a cloud of dust.

The soldier searched around and found another soldier lying nearby, his fingers twitching slightly.

The soldier quickly ran over and helped him up.

"Where's the commander?" the fallen soldier asked.

The soldier replied, "At Times Square. I'll call for reinforcements... Ugh!!"

The soldier's words cut off abruptly as a steel-like claw pierced through his body from below, turning the rest of his sentence into meaningless gurgles.

"No need," the fallen soldier said darkly.

The fallen soldier raised his right hand, confirmed the soldier's death, then casually tossed him aside.

A rust-red substance swept over the fallen soldier's body, restoring him to Alex's form.

He walked away with his head down, his hood hiding his expression, leaving only a scene of carnage.
