Chapter 123: Guest Commentary
Over the following period, Chen Mo was busy with the overseas version.
Meteorite Technology originally planned to release the English version first to test the waters, but at Chen Mo’s request, the person in charge agreed to develop multiple language versions simultaneously—English, French, German, Russian, Korean, and more—and launch them all at once.
The Korean version, in particular, was originally scheduled for the second batch of development, but under Chen Mo’s insistence, it was moved up.
If it were just translation work, that would be relatively easy. Once the translated text was ready, it could be swapped directly into the game. Handling one language was like herding a single sheep, and handling many was like herding a flock—adding a few more language versions didn’t add much workload, just hiring a few more translators.
However, the main workload for the overseas release lay in promotion and marketing. Launching in multiple countries simultaneously meant doubling the resources invested in advertising. Moreover, each country’s review rules, ranking algorithms, and user preferences differed. Launching so many versions at once seemed a bit risky.
Chen Mo’s attitude was firm. “Promotion? What’s that? Does this game need promotion?”
Well, maybe it did, but it didn’t need overwhelming advertising. Spending money recklessly was pointless.
Chen Mo said, “It’s fine. When the time comes, just ride on the popularity of ‘Legion Conquest.’ Change all the subtitles and descriptions for every version to things like ‘Completely Surpassing Legion Conquest’ or ‘The Masterpiece of RTS Games.’ That way, players searching for the keyword ‘Legion Conquest’ will also find ‘Warcraft.’”
The person in charge of Meteorite Technology was stunned. What the heck? Could they really be that shameless?
Chen Mo said, “What’s with that expression? Am I wrong? Isn’t it completely surpassing ‘Legion Conquest’? Isn’t it the masterpiece of RTS games?”
The person in charge nodded. Well… it wasn’t wrong, was it?
Chen Mo wanted to launch in so many countries at once because he hoped the game would quickly become a trend, allowing a batch of top players to emerge in each country. They could then compete and exchange ideas, speeding up the game’s development.
Of course, Chen Mo didn’t bother with the other language versions. He didn’t have the ability to oversee them anyway—he knew nothing about French, German, or Korean. Why bother?
But that didn’t matter. As long as the English version was authentic, it was fine. In his previous life, the official translation of “Warcraft” was riddled with errors, yet players still enjoyed it.
…
After a few days of work, Chen Mo roughly finalized the content for the English version of “Warcraft” and stopped overseeing it. From then on, Meteorite Technology handled the overseas promotion, which was also being prepared intensively.
At the experience store.
Su Jinyu was still browsing new forum posts every day, collecting player feedback and hot topics.
“It’s been so long, and people are still discussing Silent. I’m speechless,” Su Jinyu said helplessly.
Qian Kun said, “Huh? Still talking about it? Didn’t A’s ladder score surpass Silent the day before yesterday? Now there are three 4000-point experts.”
Zheng Hongxi nodded. “Yeah, but it seems the audience still has a stronger impression of Silent. After all, he got that 4000 points by crushing all the experts, and he did it undefeated. The weight is different.”
Qian Kun also said, “True. If Silent were still playing, those two might never have reached 4000 points…”
Zheng Hongxi said, “Have you seen those short videos online that caught Silent’s back? I always feel like that back and voice seem a bit familiar.”
Qian Kun said, “I saw them, but they were filmed in an internet cafe. The footage is blurry, it’s just his back, and the cafe is noisy. The voice isn’t clear at all. I only remember him being very cocky.”
Su Jinyu was speechless. “Huh? Neither of you figured it out?”
The two were puzzled. “Yeah. What, Goldfish, you figured it out? Do you know Silent?”
Su Jinyu facepalmed. “If the store owner knew, he’d be so heartbroken!”
Qian Kun’s eyes widened. “Huh? You mean…”
Su Jinyu said, “Yeah, ‘Silent’ means ‘silent,’ doesn’t it? You didn’t catch that?”
Qian Kun and Zheng Hongxi were shocked. “Damn! Yeah! No wonder that back looked so familiar! Goldfish, when did you find out?”
Su Jinyu said, “I knew from the start! The store owner even asked me to change that ID for him!”
Qian Kun got excited. “Then why didn’t you say so!”
Su Jinyu said, “You never asked!”
Zheng Hongxi said, “We never thought about it that way! Besides, we have work to do every day. Who has time to discuss this?”
Qian Kun sighed. “Amazing, our store owner!”
Just then, Chen Mo came downstairs.
“Alright, keep it low-key. Keep it secret for now.”
Qian Kun said, “Wow, store owner, you’ve been hiding it deep!”
Su Jinyu asked, “Store owner, when are you going to tell the players?”
Chen Mo said, “Why tell them? Let them guess. By the way, I’m going to Magic City this weekend. Call me if anything comes up.”
Su Jinyu said, “Huh? Going to Magic City for what? Promoting the game?”
Chen Mo nodded. “Something like that. The Divine Fantasy Game Platform is hosting a ‘Warcraft’ tournament.”
Su Jinyu was surprised. “Ah! So, store owner, are you making a comeback?”
Chen Mo shook his head. “No, not at all. I’m a special guest commentator.”
Su Jinyu sighed in relief. “Oh, that’s good. I was thinking, these players are just competing for some prize money; it’s not easy. You shouldn’t be crushing them again.”
Chen Mo: “…Anyway, this is a good opportunity to promote the game. I’m heading out this afternoon. Call me if anything comes up.”
