Chapter 1139: Opening a New World (Second Update)
What was even more astonishing was that this was far from all the characters from Chen Mo’s games.
Take God of War, for example. Among the many characters and deities across the four installments, only Kratos and Atreus had shown up. There was no helping it—the venue had limited seating, and it was already a feat to ensure that the protagonists from each game could find a place to sit.
If every single character from every game were invited, the scene would spiral out of control.
As things stood, the entire Mount Hyjal was already packed to the brim, with people practically sitting on the branches of the World Tree, Nordrassil.
And sure enough, some players actually tried climbing the World Tree to get a better view, only to be knocked down by a wisp perched on the tree.
Many players finally understood why Chen Mo didn’t plan to hold his wedding in the real world. In a real-world wedding, how could you possibly invite all these people?
Chen Mo had indeed thought the same. Real-world weddings were far too dull. Even if you rented the biggest venue, how many people could actually attend? A few thousand, maybe tens of thousands at most. You couldn’t exactly hold a wedding at the Bird’s Nest Stadium, could you? That would be ridiculous.
Such extravagance didn’t align with core values either.
But holding it at Mount Hyjal allowed him to gather all the game characters in one place, and let all the Matrix Game Pod players experience it firsthand. That was far more impressive than any real-world wedding.
With over twenty million Matrix Game Pod players, all of them were essentially attending in person. On top of that, major streaming platforms were broadcasting live, with hundreds of millions of players worldwide watching this wedding.
Such a spectacle was the only thing befitting Serent’s status.
What defines a grand wedding? Booking a castle? Renting a few yachts and planes? Hiring A-list celebrities as bridesmaids and groomsmen? Buying a sky-high-priced wedding dress and a diamond ring worth a fortune? Forming a motorcade with globally limited-edition luxury cars?
Cheesy. Far too cheesy. Cheesy beyond tolerance.
There were plenty of wealthy people in the world who could pull off such things, but there was only one Serent.
For Chen Mo, the most precious things were those games, the classic characters that had etched themselves into players’ hearts, the support and love from the players, and the virtual game world—nearly indistinguishable from reality—that he would dedicate his entire life to building.
Suddenly, the five Dragon Aspects in the sky erupted with immense power. Five beams of light in different colors converged, forming a massive screen above Dalaran, behind the platform built from swirling clouds.
At the same time, colorful fireworks began bursting across Dalaran, exploding in the sky with a thunderous roar.
Two figures appeared at the lower end of the red carpet, arm in arm, walking toward the highest patch of white clouds.
“Chen Mo! Chen Mo’s here!”
“The fireworks are gorgeous!”
“Damn, I’m in the game and still watching a big screen… Seriously, boss, do you have VIP tickets? I want to sit next to Sylvanas!”
“Look at their wedding attire!”
Someone shouted, and all the players turned their eyes to the big screen, where Chen Mo and Li Jingsi were dressed in their wedding outfits.
Though they were a tuxedo and a wedding gown, the designs were completely different from real-world counterparts.
Chen Mo’s tuxedo featured many blue elements, with a prominent Alliance crest. Li Jingsi’s gown had many red elements; the main body was pure white, but the red accents made it even more vibrant. Opposite Chen Mo’s position, there was a striking Horde crest.
“Is this an Alliance-Horde marriage? On behalf of Jaina and Thrall, I officially support this union!”
“Heh heh heh, does this mean the Horde will be crushed by the Alliance forever?”
“Alliance dogs, you’re overthinking it. Who’s crushing who is still up for debate!”
“Eww…”
On the big screen, Chen Mo and Li Jingsi walked arm in arm toward the clouds. Neither of them looked serious; in fact, they seemed quite relaxed.
Or rather, joyful.
“The bride is beautiful! So jealous!”
“I want to know who the bride is! Is she some celebrity? I don’t think I’ve seen her before.”
“She’s not a celebrity, she’s a pro… She might not be better than Serent at gaming, but she’s not far off…”
“No way, seriously… If they have a kid, that kid’s gaming talent would be insane!”
“Where are the parents? Shouldn’t the father be walking the bride down the aisle and handing her over?”
“Look at you, nitpicking… The wedding’s already in the game, why bother clinging to traditions? All those empty formalities are useless. I think this is fine.”
“Yeah, it kind of reminds me of Napoleon’s coronation.”
“How so?”
“At Napoleon’s coronation, tradition dictated that the Pope crown the emperor. But Napoleon crowned himself, saying, ‘I am the emperor elected by the people; my power comes from myself, so I crown myself.’”
“Wow…”
The fireworks continued to bloom. Amid the roaring cheers and the melodious background music, Chen Mo and Li Jingsi arrived at the cloud.
Chen Mo smiled and knelt on one knee. A dazzling ring materialized in his right hand.
Li Jingsi smiled and extended her hand, letting Chen Mo slip the ring onto her ring finger.
Another wave of thunderous cheers!
There was no lengthy speech, no cringey declarations. Since this was just a ceremony, the two only needed to acknowledge each other—a simple glance was enough.
Someone sighed wistfully, “The only person in the world who can make Serent kneel… So jealous…”
Many female players were moved to tears. Some elbowed their boyfriends and said, “When will Serent open this wedding scene? I want to have my wedding here too…”
Their boyfriends were overjoyed. “Great! I’m all for it! It’d be so cheap to do it here…”
Of course, driven by a strong survival instinct, they didn’t finish that last sentence…
Chen Mo stood up, smiling, and raised his hand to join it with Li Jingsi’s right hand.
A brilliant light burst forth from between their hands. The glow of their wedding rings grew even more radiant, as if a special space was continuously forming—like a new world opening.
Behind them, a massive portal appeared, smooth as a mirror, dotted with countless stars. Each star seemed to represent a new world.
Chen Mo smiled and said to everyone, “Thank you all for coming to my wedding. As a token of gratitude, I present to you—the brand-new Oasis World!”
