Chapter 3105: Mr. Carmen
Xu Huo walked from one end of the street to the other. Besides various snacks, he also picked up several free Carmen Field peripheral gifts, including a Battle Angel brim doll, which he clipped onto his shoulder.
He had learned about the original appearance of the Battle Angel on Under Dimension. It was closer to a human form, but no one could produce any actual videos or photos of what it really looked like. The Battle Angel dolls given away by merchants were just ordinary humanoid little dolls, some male, some female, with no fixed gender or decorations.
However, he soon saw a statue of the Battle Angel in a nearby park square. Carved from red jade, it depicted a clearly female form. It wore metal armor, had a very human-like face, and held a long blade and a long sword in its hands, maintaining a posture of looking up at the sky.
Several children holding toy knives and swords gathered around the statue, imitating the Battle Angel's pose as they looked up to the sky and shouted, "Kill all enemies! Kill all enemies! Kill all enemies!"
The adults nearby were unfazed by this and didn't even stop them from saying such seemingly brutal words.
Xu Huo had already obtained "Angel's Fangs," an "Angel's Eyes," and a "Gravity Bone Ring" modified from an angel's finger. Judging by the size of the "Fangs" and "Eyes," even if the Battle Angel really had a human form, it would certainly not be small, and it probably wouldn't be crafted exactly according to a human face.
Earlier, the Paper Servant Master had said he had obtained the most core part of the Battle Angel, allowing him to discern fate. At the time, Xu Huo only half-understood, but now it seemed highly likely that there was interference from Time Power, allowing a glimpse into the future, hence the term "fate."
However, the Battle Angel had already been shattered into pieces. Even though Xu Huo had obtained relatively complete fangs, using them came with significant limitations. Based on what he understood so far, this Super Item had at least gathered Time attributes, Space attributes, and Gravity attributes. Its eyes, in particular, were made from an entire Time Origin Primordial Stone, but for now, they were useless in his hands.
Perhaps because he had been standing under the statue for so long, someone came over to strike up a conversation.
"Sir, just arrived from the outer zone?" The man had a very friendly smile and was good at dealing with people. He first showed his electronic business card, then stated his purpose. "When the Battle Angel's Fallen Ruins were first announced, many players came here drawn by the fame. Angel fragments are scattered everywhere. Some say they've been found, but no one has confirmed they've all been collected. I have a map here of the ruins where Battle Angel fragments might be scattered. It'll cost you thirty thousand White Notes."
Xu Huo smiled as well. "So many Super Players have come looking. If there really were any, they probably would have taken them by now. I don't think I'm that lucky."
The man waved his hand. "That's not how it works. There are so many Super Players in the game, but not everyone can become Carmen Field. Of course, not every Super Player has the chance to find the Battle Angel. There's a fate in these things."
Xu Huo didn't argue and just said, "How about a discount?"
In the end, he bought the map for five thousand White Notes.
However, this map wasn't from the locations originally announced by the Field Clan. It only marked some spots within this district, such as places where the Battle Angel was suspected to have appeared during the final battle, or places where Carmen Field frequently visited.
These frequently visited places included the Field Manor.
When he saw the Field Manor circled prominently, he smiled and glanced at the middle-aged man who hadn't gone far. The man noticed his gaze, turned back to give him a slight bow and a smile, then turned around and walked gracefully toward his next target.
Xu Huo put the map away and boarded a passing city cable car, overlooking the entire city from a high altitude.
Although a long time had passed since the Field Clan announced the ruins, people who came to this city still tirelessly discussed the Battle Angel and the battles that had taken place in the ruins, especially the fights between Super Players. There had even been intervention from players of an A-level Wormhole Point, which was said to have caused considerable turmoil in the ruins at the time, resulting in massive casualties. The ruins had become even more unstable due to the intense fighting, to the point where no one could enter later. Naturally, everyone could only gaze from afar at the possibly enormous treasure, filled with great hope.
Of course, discussions were never peaceful. People would start arguing, such as which player had gained something in the ruins, how things would develop afterward, whether the Battle Angel should be inherited by the Field Clan, or who could truly unleash its power, or whether the District Government should recover and publicly display it.
But these were matters of opinion. If the District Government could really recover everything, the Field Clan wouldn't have announced the battle ruins and invited players from far and wide to search for the fragments.
"Is the Battle Angel really in human form?" a tourist from the outer zone asked curiously on the cable car. "I think it should look like a robot. If it's human-shaped, wouldn't that mean it might have the ability to think?"
"Why couldn't it?" replied the tourist's daughter, a girl of about seventeen or eighteen, speaking with great enthusiasm. "I think the Battle Angel is a prop with thinking ability. Maybe Mr. Carmen even made it in the likeness of his own wife."
The tourist said helplessly, "If it really had thinking ability, it probably wouldn't have been shattered into pieces. Avoiding harm is the basic logic of this kind of prop."
Props wouldn't have human emotions; they were closer to intelligent entities.
The girl disagreed. "Once you have thoughts, having feelings isn't strange. When people are born, they don't know anything either. Isn't emotion something you learn?"
"It's precisely because Mr. Carmen died in battle that it fought to the bitter end until its body was broken!"
"That's the sincere bond between them!"
"Read less fantasy," said a slightly older boy nearby. "The Battle Angel is just a prop. How can a prop and a person develop feelings?"
"You really have no sense of romance at all," the girl shook her head.
The boy continued, "Mr. Carmen died for the district and the Wormhole Point. How can you use such shallow things to describe his heroic sacrifice?"
The smile on the girl's face faded a bit, but she stubbornly said, "I'm not saying Mr. Carmen isn't great, but heroes are people too. Is the only thing worth talking about in his life his sacrifice for the district and the Wormhole Point?"
"You shouldn't be spreading rumors about him and a prop!" The boy was getting angry. The adults nearby quickly stepped in to stop them, each calming their own child before the topic was dropped.
At that moment, a young woman sitting next to Xu Huo turned off her smart mirror and turned to ask him, "What kind of person do you think Mr. Carmen was?"
