Chapter 1962: Remember to Maintain Your Persona
Sister Yan stopped the angry man, but Xu Huo said, "Isn't that the truth? Has no one come to you for help? Turning a blind eye and letting them continue to harm innocent children—do you see the East District people and the Agor Corporation the same way you see the West District people?"
"Or do you think these ordinary people in the East District, who are kept in the dark, simply aren't worth saving?"
"Since your goal is only to fight for your own interests, not to liberate the entire Jade Spring City, why bother saying it so high-soundingly?"
He looked at the people before him with indignation, "If I had known earlier, I would never have agreed to let your people replace me at the training base!"
Sister Yan and the others didn't respond for a moment, and Xu Huo's anger gradually turned into disappointment, "It seems I overestimated you."
With that, he intended to leave, but the angry man suddenly erupted, controlling several flying knives to attack Xu Huo.
Xu Huo barely reacted, clumsily using his own items to defend himself. As he deflected the knives, he was kicked into the wall along with his defensive item. A heavy punch followed, and he quickly dodged to the side, but the man's fist didn't land.
Xu Huo looked at the other person with suspicion and uncertainty, remaining silent for a long time.
However, the man slowly withdrew his hand, "You're not an Outer Zone Player?"
Xu Huo straightened up, still on guard, "When did I ever say I was an Outer Zone Player?"
The man turned back and nodded to Sister Yan, who then came over with a smile to pull Xu Huo along, "Misunderstanding, misunderstanding. We thought you were from the Agor Corporation. How long have you been a player?"
Xu Huo wasn't buying it, "That's none of your business. If you have something to say, say it directly."
Only then did Sister Yan explain the issue with the hospital. It wasn't that they didn't want to expose the conspiracy between the hospital and the Agor Corporation, but they couldn't obtain evidence. The reason was simple: all hospitals belonged to the Agor Corporation, and their security levels were naturally very high. Forget sneaking in to find proof—even stepping into a hospital required a completely flawless identity. But this was extremely difficult for the Rebel Army. Without even a proper identity, relying entirely on daily loopholes in inspections, how could they possibly take down the hospital entirely?
"It's not that we don't want to do it; it's truly beyond our ability." Sister Yan sighed as she spoke, "We're all people of Jade Spring City. How could we treat anyone differently? Everything we do is just to return Jade Spring City to the hands of its people, so that everyone is equal and there is no distinction between East and West."
Xu Huo seemed to accept this explanation, "If someone finds evidence and hands it over to you, can you guarantee it will be made public?"
"Of course," Sister Yan nodded without hesitation, "The Agor Corporation is an outsider. They are killing our compatriots!"
Only then did Xu Huo stop pressing the issue and instead asked, "What are you planning to do next? If the cleanup plan is real, are you really going to let the Agor Corporation kill all the West District people?"
"The leader is working on a solution," Sister Yan followed his lead, "We definitely want to stop this, but we're short on people. We don't know yet if we'll succeed..."
As she spoke, she pressed Xu Huo's shoulder, making him sit down again, and said solemnly, "Since you're from our district and have only recently become a player, I want to entrust you with something."
"As long as it's not something bad..." Before Xu Huo could finish, she interrupted, "If we die in battle, you, as someone in the know, must spread the deeds of the Rebel Army, let the people of Jade Spring City know of our sacrifice, and pass on this spirit!"
Xu Huo seemed stunned, then deeply moved, "I can help too!"
But Sister Yan shook her head, "You're still young. You shouldn't die here. The future of Jade Spring City depends on young people like you."
Under her persuasion, Xu Huo was finally convinced. He didn't insist on joining their operation but promised to remember their instructions.
This heartfelt exchange ended there. Afterwards, Sister Yan assured him that she would get him a legitimate identity so he could settle down in the East District.
Not telling Xu Huo about their plans wasn't about preserving a spark, as Sister Yan had claimed—it was simply a lack of trust in him. Of course, Xu Huo didn't care much. In this situation, it was difficult to get valuable leads from them, whether through interrogation or probing. He just wanted to maintain his identity.
So far, he was still a "righteous West District Inspector," who had just become a player and happened to make contact with the Rebel Army.
The next morning, as he was about to go out, Sister Yan called him back, telling him to return in the evening. Xu Huo didn't ask further. After confirming he wasn't being followed, he took a car to meet Qiao Qiao and Old Zhou. They had arranged to meet in the morning.
When the three met, Old Zhou matched the character he had chosen—tall, muscular, and looking strong. Qiao Qiao was a bit different; he was a very handsomely dressed man.
"Isn't this a bit too flashy?" Old Zhou said as soon as he saw Qiao Qiao.
Good-looking people always attract attention wherever they go, which isn't very convenient for players.
Qiao Qiao's voice was gentle, "I'll wear a mask when I'm doing serious work."
Old Zhou nodded and turned to Xu Huo, "What's your clearance task?"
"Have you heard of White Blood?" Xu Huo asked.
"I've heard of it," Qiao Qiao immediately said, "I accidentally overheard an important member of the Agor Corporation mention it. It seems to be an Evolution Agent used by East District players, very effective for players born in this district."
"Evolution Agent?" Old Zhou said, "That's unlikely. If it were just an ordinary Evolution Agent, how could it be the clearance content of a high-level instance?"
"I'm not sure about the details. It wasn't related to my clearance content," Qiao Qiao added, "When I heard it, I thought it was the Perfect Potion, but then I heard the person say it was white, and I lost interest immediately."
"If I had known someone needed it, I would have listened more."
Xu Huo smiled. Whether he had heard more or not didn't matter much. Since the East District could leak information about "White Blood," and the Rebel Army used it to lure Outer Zone Players, it either meant that "White Blood" wasn't something either side valued much, or what they were talking about wasn't the real "White Blood."
"What's your clearance task?" he asked Old Zhou.
"Don't even mention it," Old Zhou said, "I originally went to the East District to go undercover, but within two days, they brought in a Psychotherapist. After just a few words, he exposed me. My identity was blown, and getting into the Agor Corporation headquarters is almost impossible now. My clearance task is also very hard to complete. Now I'm just waiting to see if the East District and the Rebel Army will fight, so I can take advantage of the chaos to clear it."
"Were you actually identified, or were you bluffed?" Xu Huo pressed further.
