# Chapter 131: Better to Seek Death Than Life
"It's simple. Forty people per group, stand separately." Brother Feng looked around at the people. "Not many people died in this mall. That's a good thing."
His cryptic statement only made the already panicked and terrified crowd even more afraid. They huddled together, shrinking back, not daring to move.
Seeing them dawdling, waiting for each other to make a move, Brother Feng sneered and fired a shot into the air. "I'll give you five minutes. Anyone left over after five minutes will be killed!"
The people in the mall scattered like frightened rabbits, crowding together with strangers and acquaintances alike. Some kept shouting out headcounts. When numbers fell short, they'd grab people from nearby groups. When there were too many, they'd shove people out. In no time, the two hundred or so people were divided into five groups. Those who couldn't make up a full forty dragged women and children out of the already formed groups to squeeze themselves in. The scene was even more chaotic than before.
Brother Feng and his two companions watched this spectacle with considerable amusement, their expressions pleased.
"At least let the children in!" a mother begged tearfully, but a burly man shoved her aside, sending both her and her child tumbling to the ground.
"Why did you push her!" someone nearby tried to intervene, but the burly man sneered, "If you're so noble, go out and let her take your place!"
The person immediately fell silent.
At least twenty elderly people, women, and children had been pushed out. They had no recourse. Two elderly men even knelt and kowtowed, begging Brother Feng and his group to spare their lives.
The bustling mall quickly fell silent, leaving only the cries of women and children and the pleas of the elderly—a sound so piercing it made one's hair stand on end.
"The remaining people, including us, number over thirty. Let's consider them one group for now." Xu Huo spoke up at this point, looking directly at Brother Feng. "Save your bullets for dealing with others. We don't know if there are other players nearby."
Brother Feng's smile faded. "Think carefully. If you take these people as your group, you'll have to bear responsibility for whatever happens to them."
Xu Huo's expression remained impassive. "I don't find tormenting a bunch of non-evolvers amusing. Why don't you just get to the point?"
Brother Feng stared at him for a few seconds before laughing. "Haha! I appreciate smart people like you! All of you, come over here."
The remaining people hastily gathered behind Xu Huo and his group. The baseball cap player and the female player also moved closer, glancing at Xu Huo with slight shame before quietly stepping aside.
Unexpectedly, Brother Feng and his two companions also walked toward them. After maintaining a certain distance, they shouted for the other four groups to move farther away.
Once the five groups had established relative distance, Brother Feng checked the time, muttered something about it being about time, then looked up at Xu Huo. "You probably don't know the origin of this black-and-white roulette wheel. It's a prop belonging to a Class A member of the Eerie Sound Knights called the Undertaker. In the first half hour of the game, it's a single-player life-or-death round."
"After half an hour, if more than a hundred people remain in the big roulette wheel, it automatically enters the second round—a multiplayer life-or-death round. Each round requires at least twenty-four people."
"You mean we didn't actually need groups of forty?" the baseball cap player couldn't help asking.
Brother Feng smiled. "Of course not. The ones who obtain survival opportunities are the key. The others don't matter at all."
And now, the five people present who held survival opportunities were already standing together.
The people in the other groups, who had been straining to hear their conversation, were dumbfounded. But in the next second, a few quick thinkers tried to run over. However, before they could take more than a few steps, the black-and-white patterned floor began to twist. The two colors intermingled, forming several black-and-white roulette wheels over ten meters in diameter on the ground. The few who had run out had barely stepped onto the edge when they exploded into blood with a bang!
The startled crowd pushed backward. Several people at the edges were shoved out of the roulette wheel's range and died one after another. In just a few breaths, the mall floor was covered in blood.
Xu Huo glanced at it then looked away. He lowered his head to examine the newly formed roulette wheel beneath his feet. Unlike the small roulette wheel he'd seen in the pure white space earlier, this one had its pointer attached to the wheel itself. From the moment it appeared, it had been spinning across the ground like a beam of light, never stopping.
He looked up and asked Brother Feng, "Does this round go by turns?"
"That's right." Brother Feng stomped his foot, stepping on the pointer as it flashed past. "When the time comes, this pointer will stop. Every time it stops, someone must step forward to stand at the center of the roulette wheel and spin the pointer."
"There are five of us here, with five survival opportunities. But to crack the multiplayer life-or-death round, five people alone aren't enough."
He glanced at the people cowering behind them. "Everyone has to take a turn. You brought all these people in. Want to go first?"
Xu Huo didn't decline but asked instead, "When does the multiplayer life-or-death round end?"
"I'm not sure about that." Brother Feng said. "This is all the information I have."
Xu Huo observed his expression and frowned almost imperceptibly.
This Brother Feng was clearly not telling the truth. They too were trapped in the life-or-death round, yet they showed no anxiety.
The black-and-white roulette wheel wasn't an instance. It was highly likely that the ticket could get them out. Having a ticket as a safety net was one thing, but these people clearly didn't want to leave. They genuinely wanted to crack this life-or-death round.
There had to be a reason they gathered so many people together.
His gaze swept over the three of them, and Xu Huo felt a slight sense of difficulty.
Only now, seeing genuine high-level players, did he realize how troublesome external players could be.
For these three to be trapped by a Class A player, they had to be at least below that level. The three moved around the mall, seemingly casual, but actually coordinating with each other, leaving no blind spots in their line of sight.
From earlier until now, both he, the baseball cap player, and the female player had been surrounded by these three. If they tried to force a breakthrough, they'd likely be stopped immediately.
Naturally, he couldn't leave now while trapped in the life-or-death round.
After a pause, he spoke again. "Besides the rules announced by the Undertaker, do you know any other relevant information?"
This time, Brother Feng didn't speak.
"I can go first, but you don't want to waste a survival opportunity either, do you?" Xu Huo continued. "What if this life-or-death round keeps going until the last person and still doesn't stop? What are you planning to do then?"
"What else can we do? Use the ticket to leave, of course." The tall man in camouflage spoke up. "You're not being honest, kid. Trying to pry information out of us."
"If you wanted to use the ticket, why drag things out until now?" Xu Huo's expression remained calm. "After all this trouble, would you be satisfied leaving empty-handed?"
Brother Feng thought for a moment, then said, "I don't know anything else, but the Undertaker's prop is called 'Better to Seek Death Than Life.'"
"That name is ridiculous. Who would seek death when they can live?" Wang Chaoqing muttered.
"The Undertaker naturally wants others to seek death." Brother Feng said casually, then glanced at the pointer gradually slowing down on the ground and made a "please" gesture to Xu Huo.
