Chapter 587: Di Hu's Great Adventure
If everyone's "Echo" is related to their own life experiences, then why is his own "Echo" "Endless Life"?
Just like Di Hu's question, what exactly was his life experience?
Why did he have such a deep obsession with "Endless Life"?
"Whether I'm a student or a swindler... that doesn't explain it." Qi Xia narrowed his eyes, reflecting on the matter, feeling as though he was still missing some crucial clue.
Not only could "Endless Life" not be explained, but even the "Spiritual Hearing" before "Endless Life" couldn't be accounted for, either. These two "Echoes" had nothing to do with his life experience. After all, he knew he wasn't deaf, and he didn't normally envy Nüwa for being able to "create humans."
Even if everyone in the entire "End Land" had "Echoes" tied to their life experiences, his own two "Echoes" defied that principle. So it wasn't that the others were strange—he was the strange one. He was the exception.
Furthermore, everything he was currently experiencing had most likely been designed by his past self. But what was the gap between that past self and the present self? Could that past self have even accurately predicted the words "Endless Life"?
"Are you okay...?" Di Hu, noticing Qi Xia had been staring blankly into space, gently interrupted his train of thought. "Why are you spacing out?"
"Nothing. I'm just thinking about something." Qi Xia sighed and said, "Di Hu, is everyone's 'Echo' really related to their life experience?"
"At least that's true for everyone I know," Di Hu replied. "That's why I don't really understand what 'Endless Life' means..."
"But besides 'Endless Life,' there's another situation that can't be explained." Qi Xia furrowed his brow.
"What...?"
"I've heard of someone whose 'Echo Trigger' is 'Witness the End.'" Qi Xia slowly narrowed his eyes. "What kind of life experience did he have in reality, such that his obsession is 'Witness the End'? Was he praying every day for the entire world to be destroyed?"
"I wouldn't know that." Di Hu frowned. "I've always been an 'Unfortunate,' so I rarely interact with other 'Echoers.'"
Qi Xia nodded gravely upon hearing this.
At that moment, Xu Liunian interjected, "Are you talking about Chu Tianqiu...?"
Qi Xia looked at her. "Yes."
"I suspect..." Xu Liunian thought for a moment and said in a low voice, "Chu Tianqiu might be lying."
"Hm? Any basis?"
Qi Xia didn't hold out much hope for Xu Liunian's opinion. Whatever she suspected was most likely something Chu Tianqiu had deliberately made her suspect.
"No basis." Xu Liunian shook her head. "Qi Xia, I just feel that Chu Tianqiu isn't afraid of death. He's never been afraid of dying. During the days I was with him, I was even more anxious than he was. Now, looking back, I wonder if he had already mastered the 'Echo' a long time ago? So he figured dying wouldn't matter to him."
Qi Xia thought carefully about Xu Liunian's words. He recalled that the first time he had truly seen Chu Tianqiu was in Di Hu's game venue.
At that time, he was sitting on the first floor waiting for the game to end when Chu Tianqiu swaggered in and sat down across from him.
The people of "Heaven's Mouth" kept saying they needed to protect Chu Tianqiu until the last day, but he himself didn't seem to care about it at all.
Still, denying Chu Tianqiu's "Echo Trigger" based on that alone didn't seem reasonable.
"I'm not afraid of death either," Qi Xia said. "I've risked my life many times when I didn't have an 'Echo' at all. That doesn't mean much—it just proves he's more confident than the average person."
"You mean..."
"He knows he won't die," Qi Xia replied. "Or rather, he knows he can handle whatever trouble comes his way."
Xu Liunian nodded and fell silent. Qi Xia then turned his gaze back to Di Hu.
"Go on, Di Hu. What exactly happened last night?"
Hearing Qi Xia's question, Di Hu sheepishly scratched his head and sighed. "I screwed up your orders..."
"Screwed up?" Qi Xia quirked an eyebrow. "I'm standing here safe and sound. You didn't manage to get me killed."
"This—!" Di Hu's eyes revealed a trace of dejection. "Even if it didn't get you killed, I feel like I'm not far from screwing up."
"Don't panic. I told you, I'm here." Qi Xia said. "Tell me exactly what happened, and I'll handle it."
"Really...?" Di Hu raised his brow.
"Yeah."
Di Hu thought for a moment and then earnestly recounted the events of the previous night.
That evening, after returning to the "Train," he intercepted the Black-haired Sheep and the Lying Down Dog in the corridor. Before the two could figure out what was happening, he dragged them into his room.
As Qi Xia listened, he committed all the characters who had appeared to memory. These were all "needles." These "needles" would completely dismantle the "Zodiacs" from within.
After confirming that no one was around, Di Hu closed the door to his room. But looking at the unenthusiastic expressions on the two in front of him, he sighed.
"Compensation Tiger, enough already, right?" Di Yang asked. "It's been a whole day... you still won't give up?"
"I can't give up!" Di Hu said. "I've been thinking all day today, and now my mind has never been clearer!"
"What's so clear now?"
"Look..." Di Hu raised his hand and gestured to them. "Is it possible that Brother Yang is using his brain outside and can figure out that I know his plan?"
Lying Down Dog couldn't hold it in anymore. "Isn't that too ridiculous? You think you two have telepathy or something?"
"No!" Di Hu said. "If even my dumb brain can figure it out, how could Brother Yang not?"
"That's not even the problem!" Di Yang felt the situation was getting absurd. "You're jumping too many steps. First, we can't even confirm he's Brother Yang. Second, he has no memories. Third, there's no way he knows what you're thinking. How did you bypass all those problems and go straight to guessing what he's thinking?"
"Isn't it simple?" Di Hu said with full confidence. "You two are only confused because you've forgotten one fundamental reason. As long as that reason exists, all the problems can be solved, and all my guesses could come true!"
"What reason?"
"That person is Brother Yang!" Di Hu smirked proudly.
