Chapter 219: Let's Go Home
"BANG!!"
Qiao Jiayin started ramming the door.
This was too bizarre.
He could clearly hear the voices of Qi Xia and Li Xiangling, but no one was opening the door for him.
"Liar! Kung Fu girl!!" Qiao Jiayin shouted, drenched in sweat. "What's going on?! Open the door!!"
At that moment, the people from "Cat" heard the commotion and began gathering from the first floor toward this spot. They gradually surrounded Qiao Jiayin.
Song Qi parted the crowd and stepped forward slowly. He remembered this man with the tattooed arms.
Just a short while ago, this guy had appeared for only a brief moment, yet he had snapped six people's arms.
Even more terrifying was the fact that he wasn't a "Resonator."
"Brother," Song Qi called out. "State your name."
Qiao Jiayin slowly turned his head, his eyes icy cold as he looked at the group. "State my name?"
"That's right. Even though we've killed a lot of people, I still want to know your name."
"Ah Jin of Bolan Street." Qiao Jiayin let out a cold laugh. "You can call me 'Master Qiao,' or 'Boss.'"
"Interesting." Song Qi glanced at the door behind Qiao Jiayin and asked, "Is there still someone inside?"
Qiao Jiayin didn't answer, instead countering, "Why don't you go check somewhere else? If you insist on going through this door, half of your brothers here will die."
"Yes, I believe you can do that." Song Qi nodded. "But even if we all die, this mission must still be completed."
"So there's no room for negotiation?" Qiao Jiayin cracked his neck. "Who wants to be the first?"
Several men in black clothes also stretched their limbs and started walking toward him.
Qiao Jiayin knew their capabilities. He had been hiding in the shadows observing for a while and realized that all these intruders were "Resonators," and all had "Resonances" suitable for combat, just like Luo Shiyi.
Beyond that, every single one of them had undergone combat training; their every move was textbook perfect.
"What a pain..." Qiao Jiayin felt his mind in a mess.
Why were all the people here so unreasonable?
They could kill over the slightest disagreement. He'd been on the streets for years and never seen anything like this.
He tried to summon the "Miracle" he had used during the day, but whether due to exhaustion or mental confusion, he couldn't grasp even a trace of that "Miracle."
"Liar... I can only give this one last shot..."
...
Qi Xia stood there in a daze, surrounded by organs and severed fingers scattered across the floor.
He felt as if half his body weight had vanished, and his consciousness was starting to blur.
But he wasn't dead.
He knew his heart and brain were still intact, so he wouldn't die just yet.
"Just kill me..." Qi Xia muttered to himself. "Do it..."
"Oh?" Xuan Wu made another exaggerated expression. "Weren't you going to kill me? How did it turn into me killing you?"
"Stop torturing me..." Qi Xia said in despair. "I admit defeat..."
"Don't!" Xuan Wu shrieked as she stood up. "You can't give up!"
"Please..." Qi Xia felt his consciousness fading. His whole body ached.
The organs that had been removed had already stopped functioning; various wounds throbbed inside his body.
He knew he wouldn't survive, but he never thought dying would be this hard.
"Brother Qi..." Li Xiangling stood helplessly by, completely at a loss.
Xuan Wu's body was already riddled with knife wounds, yet she was like a hedgehog that had lost its spines—still hopping around lively as ever.
"Hurry up and kill me..." Qi Xia's eyes were dead. "I'm so tired..."
He slowly raised his head, and saw Yu Nian'an standing behind Xuan Wu.
"An..." Qi Xia slowly broke into a smile.
He moved his unnaturally light body and slowly walked over.
"Xia!" Yu Nian'an looked at him with concern. "What's wrong? You look exhausted. Was this job especially hard?"
Qi Xia started crying even as he smiled.
"Yeah... this job was especially hard..." He choked up. "I'm so tired. I thought I'd never see you again... An..."
Ever since entering the "Land of the End," Qi Xia had remained cold and detached throughout.
He was like a machine, constantly avoiding all mistakes, carefully moving along the optimal path.
All his programs were wound tight, always afraid of making a wrong move.
But this very person was now sobbing uncontrollably.
"An... where are you...?"
"Xia, I'm at home." Yu Nian'an said with worry. "I bought your favorite peanuts. Come home, I'll be waiting for you."
"Home...?"
"Xia, let's go home, okay?"
"Mm..." Qi Xia wept bitterly. "An... take me home... take me away..."
Xuan Wu looked suspiciously behind herself, not understanding what this man was doing.
But the next second, she suddenly felt the room vibrate slightly.
Li Xiangling also sensed something wrong, as if some massive thing was moving.
Before either of them could react, a bell-like sound exploded through the heavens, its massive shock wave sending both of them sprawling to the ground. Only Qi Xia remained standing.
The room's glass windows rattled violently from the intense bell sound, on the verge of shattering.
Outside the door, the people who had been fighting were also thrown off balance by this bell sound; not a single one could stay on their feet.
It was a long time before Li Xiangling managed to get up. While Xuan Wu was still unable to move, she rushed to check on Qi Xia's condition. She found that although he was standing there, he was no longer breathing.
...
Chu Tianqiu and Yun Yao stood before the screen, watching the barrage of "Resonances" flashing back and forth like danmaku. Neither of them spoke.
After a long while, Chu Tianqiu finally said, "Yun Yao, want to make a bet?"
"Are you betting whether Qi Xia will 'Resonate'?"
"No." Chu Tianqiu shook his head. "I'll bet on how many characters Qi Xia's 'Resonance' has."
"How many characters...?"
"I bet three characters." Chu Tianqiu said. "Qi Xia is definitely the cream of the crop in the 'Land of the End'... My earlier deduction won't be wrong."
As Chu Tianqiu's words fell, the entire giant bell began to tremble.
A smile slowly spread across his face, but the next second, it froze.
The scale of the bell's movement was far too horrifying!
"No... no good..." Chu Tianqiu grabbed Yun Yao and shouted, "Quick! Get to the car!"
They made the snap decision and got into the vehicle, closing all windows. Just as Chu Tianqiu was about to shift into reverse and back away, the massive bell sound exploded.
They quickly covered their ears, but the whole ground was vibrating, and the car's windshield developed terrifying cracks from the intense vibrations.
Chu Tianqiu struggled to lift his head and look at the screen. He saw a huge line of text appear in the center of the screen, covering all the other "Resonances."
But a few seconds later, a second bell sound rang out, and the enormous text disappeared.
When the bell sounds dissipated, they finally broke free from the misery.
After a dazed moment, Chu Tianqiu asked in a trembling voice, "What the hell was that thing just now?"
Yun Yao's face was also filled with shock.
"Yun Yao, I must be going crazy, right? Why would that sentence appear on the screen?!" Chu Tianqiu forced an ugly smile. "Good thing I brought you along! Tell me what you saw!"
Yun Yao swallowed hard. She also felt like she was losing her mind.
Just a moment ago, Chu Tianqiu had been betting on how many characters Qi Xia's "Resonance" had. But was that sentence on the screen really a "Resonance"?
Fortunately, the two of them had witnessed it together. Otherwise, no one would believe that the screen, which for years had only displayed "Resonances," now read:
"I saw the surge of 'Endless Life!'"
