Chapter 38: Lies!
“Haha…”
Excited, cheerful laughter rang out from the Stellar Corridor.
“We succeeded!”
“It’s over!”
The six surviving lone Lord God Messengers, including Breler and his five companions, as well as the other warriors of the Infernal Legion, all had smiles on their faces. Their happiness wasn’t because they had achieved a draw. It was because—they were still alive! They had survived this terrifying planar war.
Of the three hundred Seven-Star Fiends, only a little over forty had survived.
The survivors were certainly worthy of celebration!
On the mountaintop, tens of thousands of miles away.
Many Overgods were engaged in heated conversation.
“O Fu, you lost this time!” Destruction Overlord Utred finally revealed a trace of a smile.
Fate Overlord O Fu chuckled, “Haha… Utred, achieving a draw in this battle can indeed be considered my loss. However, Utred, the reason your Infernal Realm side was able to win this time was mainly due to those six Lord God Messengers who formed the battle formation. Which Overgod do those six messengers belong to?”
O Fu showed no signs of discouragement or dissatisfaction from losing. He remained smiling.
“These are Linley’s six Lord God Messengers!” Destruction Overlord stated directly.
“Oh?” Fate Overlord O Fu couldn’t help but turn his head to look at Linley.
The other Overgods, who had heard the content of the two Overlords’ conversation, also turned to look at Linley. So the six people who had played a major role in this planar war were Linley’s messengers.
“Linley, this time you’ve helped Utred out,” O Fu said, looking at Linley with a smile.
Linley said calmly, “It’s just six messengers. If you, Lord O Fu, had found a Paragon Upper God, and that Paragon Upper God fought desperately, killing one or two hundred Twelve-Winged Seraphim wouldn’t be difficult. That could also change the tide of battle.”
The combined efforts of those six in the war had an effect close to that of a Paragon.
“Paragon Upper Gods? Which of those Paragons would be willing to risk their lives and enter this battlefield?” Fate Overlord O Fu said with a light laugh. “If there were no danger, they would be willing to do things for you. But with such danger, no Paragon would be willing to enter.”
For Paragons, even Overgod Artifacts meant nothing.
So, what could an Overgod offer to attract a Paragon Upper God? Nothing! Naturally, Paragons were all too lazy to participate in the war.
“Linley, I’m very curious. Who researched the battle formation formed by your six Lord God Messengers?” Fate Overlord O Fu asked, recalling.
“This battle formation is called the Reincarnation Battle Formation. It was researched by one of my Lord God Messengers over countless eons,” Linley said without much concealment.
“Reincarnation Battle Formation… Reincarnation… Reincarnation!” Fate Overlord O Fu murmured it a few times, nodded slightly, and then smiled and nodded at Linley. “That messenger of yours is definitely a top-tier figure among magic formation researchers. Being able to integrate heterogeneous energies with such low loss—I must say, I’m impressed!”
“Hey, O Fu, you lost, and you’re still this happy?” Death Overlord said with a light laugh.
Fate Overlord O Fu smiled faintly. “Winning and losing? Gain and loss are relative. You can’t judge from the surface outcome… Haha…” O Fu laughed heartily and happily. “Everyone, I won’t linger here. I’ll head back to the Celestial Realm first. Oh, right, Linley…”
O Fu suddenly looked at Linley and said with a smile, “When you have time, you must come visit my August Garden. I’ve invited you many times.”
“Certainly, certainly,” Linley quickly agreed.
With that, O Fu, along with the Overgods of the Celestial Realm faction, tore open space and flew away.
“O Fu…” Linley sighed in admiration.
Over this period of time, through several contacts with Fate Overlord O Fu, Linley had come to admire him somewhat.
“Whether it’s victory or defeat, success or failure, he remains very calm. It’s as if nothing in this world can anger him,” Linley marveled. In this planar war, if O Fu had won, he would have gained an additional portion of Will Power. O Fu had missed the chance for success, yet his expression didn’t change, and he showed no sign of discouragement.
This state of mind was something the other Overlords couldn’t match.
In the Infernal Realm, at the Heavenly Sacrifice Mountains. Half a year had passed since the planar war. Linley’s mansion remained as peaceful as ever.
“Wade has also gone out to explore the world.” Linley walked along the mansion’s corridor, gazing into the distance at the younger generation of the Baruch family on the grass. “All of them love to fight. It seems that after staying here for a while, most of these younger members will probably go out to train and experience the Infernal Realm.”
Linley followed the corridor and turned into a quiet garden.
In a corner of the garden, Bebe and Nisse were talking about something, laughing heartily.
“Hmm?” Linley turned around and saw his father, Hogg, and his mother, Lina, walking in from the garden entrance.
“Linley.” A smile appeared on Hogg’s face.
“Father, Mother.” Linley immediately bowed.
“I was looking for you,” Hogg said with a smile. “Recently, your mother and I are planning to visit some material planes and travel around. You and Delia should come with us, okay?” There were countless material planes, and many of them had their own unique features.
There were strange races and different racial civilizations.
Traveling through countless material planes was more enjoyable than staying in the higher plane of the Infernal Realm.
“No need,” Linley said with a smile, shaking his head in refusal.
“You, this child…” Hogg shook his head helplessly with a smile. Mother Lina laughed and said, “Hogg, don’t force Linley. He can go whenever he wants.”
Linley possessed a Fire-type divine clone, so he could enter material planes.
Linley said goodbye to his parents and left alone.
In a quiet courtyard, this was Linley’s usual place for quiet cultivation.
Standing on the grass, his fused divine sense instantly spread across the entire Infernal Realm.
“Ten thousand years of time, journeying all the way…” Scenes from his childhood to the present flashed through Linley’s mind. “Father, Grandpa Delin, Bebe. Wharton, Delia, Big Brother Yale, George, Reynolds…” One person after another appeared in his mind. These people were deeply imprinted on Linley’s soul.
Suddenly, Linley thought of one person.
“Mother!”
Thinking of his mother, Lina, Linley couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Although Mother Lina quickly became close with Father Hogg, after all these years, there was always a barrier between Mother Lina and Linley and Wharton. When Lina faced her two sons, Linley and Wharton, she didn’t have the true feelings of a mother for her sons.
Linley and Wharton could sense it.
“Sigh, it’s just because Mother has no memories from before she became an angel,” Linley sighed in his heart.
Just then—
“Whoosh!” A figure descended from the sky.
“Lord Utred.” Linley looked and saw that the visitor was Destruction Overlord Utred.
Utred, dressed in a black robe, had a smile on his face. “Linley. The six Lord God Messengers you sent out in the last planar war played a huge role. I know you spent several hundred years finding those six. Lately, I haven’t come to thank you…”
“Lord Utred, I was going to select messengers anyway,” Linley said with a smile.
Linley and Destruction Overlord had a pretty good relationship.
“Haha, enough said, Linley. Consider this a favor I owe you,” Destruction Overlord Utred laughed. “If you have any problems, as long as I can handle them… feel free to ask me to act. You could even ask me to reveal the secrets of some ultimate techniques. Of course, don’t even think about the ‘Space-Time Chaos’ move.”
Utred said very straightforwardly.
The Space-Time Chaos move, although not as good as the combined innate divine ability of the Four Divine Beasts, still had an amplification effect of a thousand times.
Even if Linley learned this move, he could threaten the four Rule Overlords. So Utred couldn’t possibly pass it on to anyone else.
“Haha, Lord Utred, even if you didn’t say that, I wouldn’t ask you to tell me that ultimate technique over such a small matter. You must have spent a lot of energy researching that move,” Linley said with a faint smile. “By the way, during the previous planar war, Lord O Fu lost. Did he have any special reaction?”
“Him? What reaction could he have? Same as always. In his August Garden, he spends all day immersed in research and cultivation.”
Destruction Overlord Utred sighed with emotion. “O Fu, that madman, never seems to know fatigue. To be honest, among the Rule Overlords, O Fu is the one I can’t get a read on. You never know… what ultimate moves O Fu has. Because a madman like him can’t be judged by common sense.”
Linley couldn’t help but smile. He could understand Utred’s frustration.
He had painstakingly created the Space-Time Chaos move, yet he still couldn’t defeat O Fu. Of course, it was because O Fu had a Soul-Defense Overgod Artifact.
“Enough about him. When I came over just now, I noticed your mood wasn’t right. Your expression wasn’t good either. Is there some troublesome matter?” Utred said with a slight smile.
Overlords were also emotional beings.
Although the four Rule Overlords thought highly of themselves, they still needed friends. After Linley had demonstrated his strength, the four Rule Overlords’ attitude towards him had changed somewhat. Because of the planar war incident, Utred had come to regard Linley as the second-strongest on his side.
As for the strongest on his side, that was naturally himself.
Because their relationship was closer, their conversations were more casual and relaxed.
“Oh? There is indeed a troublesome matter. But knowing about it won’t help,” Linley sighed. His mother had become an angel, and her past life memories were gone. It was impossible to change.
“Tell me about it,” Utred said with a smile.
Linley sighed again. “This matter involves my mother. When my mother was in a material plane, she was captured by a Light-type religion, and her soul was offered to an Overgod. My mother became an angel, a Twelve-Winged Seraphim! I once went to Augusta and paid a price to have him restore my mother’s freedom. She gained her freedom, but my mother’s past life memories can never be recovered.”
“What did you say?” Destruction Overlord Utred frowned.
“What? Can an angel’s memories be restored?” Linley asked, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“How could he possibly choose to restore your mother’s freedom!” Utred stared seriously at Linley. “Linley, let me tell you, there are only two ways to restore an angel’s self-awareness and freedom—and I dare say, Augusta wouldn’t choose either of them!”
Linley was stunned. “You, what do you mean? But that day, Augusta seemed to have suffered soul damage.”
“Haha…”
Destruction Overlord laughed coldly. “Soul damage? Just an act! Linley, let me tell you one thing: once an angel truly regains its freedom, that angel will naturally recover its past life memories!”
“What did you say?” Linley’s expression changed drastically. “How is that possible?”
“Your mother hasn’t recovered her memories, which means one thing—your mother is still under his control! Your mother hasn’t regained her freedom at all!” Destruction Overlord sneered. “I think your mother is just acting free on his orders. This way, he suffers no loss and can gain benefits from you. With such a good deal, why wouldn’t he take it?”
Linley’s expression changed drastically.
“Your relationship with him was already bad. Do you think he would keep his word to you?” Utred scoffed.
“But, but O Fu was there at the time?” Linley quickly said.
“O Fu? O Fu needed something from Augusta back then. Besides, Augusta had helped O Fu a few times, so O Fu owed him favors. Do you think O Fu would help you instead of him?” Utred sneered. “O Fu may be detached from worldly affairs, but that doesn’t mean he’s a saint.”
“Simply put, you were completely deceived by Augusta!” Utred stated.
