# Chapter 1: Assassin Faction
The dim light flickered across the stone walls as shadows danced in the narrow corridor. Kukulin Bai Ye moved silently, his footsteps barely audible against the ancient stone floor. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and old blood.
Behind him, Mawen Hua'erzi followed closely, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade. "We're close," he whispered, his voice barely carrying through the darkness.
Green Gillian nodded from the rear, her eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement. "The scent trail ends here. They must be hiding in the chamber ahead."
Bai Ye paused, his senses extending outward like invisible tendrils. The Attribute Enhancement Hall lay somewhere beyond these tunnels, but this path led elsewhere—to something far more dangerous.
"Assassin faction," he murmured, the words tasting bitter on his tongue. "They've been tracking us since we entered the Eighth Rank."
The Three Brothers of National Football had warned them about this. The Archbishop of the Abyss had placed a bounty on their heads, and now the Hunt List: Blood Pact was active. Every contractor in Reincarnation Paradise with a taste for blood would be coming for them.
"Let them come," Hua'erzi said, a cold smile spreading across his face. "I've been itching for a real fight."
Bai Ye didn't share his companion's enthusiasm. The Blade Path: Azure Demon hummed softly at his waist, sensing the danger that lurked ahead. His Origin Stone: World pulsed with energy, ready to unleash its power at a moment's notice.
The corridor opened into a vast chamber, its ceiling lost in darkness. In the center stood a figure cloaked in dark blue smoke, their features obscured by the swirling mist.
"You're the one they call the Shadow of Law Destruction," the figure said, their voice echoing strangely. "I've been waiting for this moment."
Bai Ye's hand moved to his blade. "Who sent you?"
The figure laughed, a sound like grinding stones. "Does it matter? In the end, all that matters is who walks away from this chamber."
The dark blue smoke expanded, filling the room with an oppressive presence. Bai Ye could feel the Abyss Force emanating from their opponent—this was no ordinary contractor. This was a Platinum Apostle, one of the Supreme Being's chosen.
"Get ready," Bai Ye said, drawing his blade. The Cyan Steel Shadow Energy flared to life, coating the weapon in an ethereal glow.
Hua'erzi and Gillian moved into position, forming a triangle formation. The battle was about to begin.
The assassin lunged forward, their movements impossibly fast. Bai Ye met them head-on, his Blade Path Sword: Time activating as he twisted through the space between heartbeats. The clash of weapons echoed through the chamber like thunder.
This was only the beginning.
