Chapter 48: Courtesy Calls for Reciprocity
On the high walls of the Sea Race’s main city, Molei, Yueshitu, and Hao Mei stared in shock at the scene unfolding on the main street several kilometers below. The plan had been to feign an assassination of the Sea King to draw the attention of the Sea Race’s elites within the city, but judging by the current situation, it looked like the assassination had actually succeeded.
This immediately made Molei realize they had been set up. The three of them had been tricked into coming here to serve as scapegoats for the Sea King’s assassination. To make matters worse, if they were caught, could she claim it was a feigned assassination, that they never intended to actually kill the Sea King, and that his death was merely an accident? Would the Sea Race’s elites believe that?
Molei’s thoughts raced. Yet, she suddenly felt that this might not be a trap after all. If it were, there wouldn’t be so many obvious flaws. She had been schemed against by that Law-Destroying old yinbi before, and the feeling of being manipulated back then was completely different from now.
Just as Molei, Yueshitu, and Hao Mei were about to retreat, the Sea Race’s personal guards on the main street, under the command of Great Warrior Zakawa, began removing all the wreckage of the vehicles from the street, leaving only scattered rubble as they withdrew.
This left Molei even more bewildered. She had expected other absolute-strong-rank powerhouses to arrive immediately, sealing off the main city and conducting a thorough, house-to-house search.
Instead, it seemed as if the Sea King’s death was simply accepted. The guards hurriedly took the remains and withdrew, giving no one outside their group any chance to inspect the assassination scene.
This was puzzling. This was the Sea Race’s main city; no other forces outside the Sea Race would have the opportunity to examine the site of the Sea King’s assassination. This meant that Great Warrior Zakawa, the Sea King’s trusted subordinate, was guarding against someone within the Sea Race itself.
The Sea Race had three internal factions: the Royal Faction, led by the Sea King himself; the Divine Faction, represented by the Sea God Cult; and the Elder Council, the most senior faction with the most internal powerhouses. It was rumored that the two ‘unaffiliated’ absolute-strong-rank powerhouses in this world were secretly members of the Elder Council.
Now that the leader of the Royal Faction, the Sea King, was dead, his subordinates would naturally be on guard against the Sea God Cult and the Elder Council.
But guarding was one thing—why clean up the assassination scene so thoroughly? That was truly surprising. The Sea King had been assassinated in the main city; this could easily be used to frame the Sea God Cult and the Elder Council.
Just then, Molei, Yueshitu, and Hao Mei all received a notification.
