Chapter 30: Lawless and Unrestrained

Su Xiao drove along the midnight streets, with the young police officer in the passenger seat.
At that moment, the young officer was bound by a belt around his throat, the belt firmly fastened to the backrest behind him. Every time Su Xiao slammed on the brakes, the young officer would be choked until his eyes rolled white.
"How much farther?" Su Xiao had floored the accelerator, the speed at least 160 kilometers per hour. It was midnight, and there were few cars on the road.
At this breakneck speed, Su Xiao noticed something: even driving at this pace, he remained completely at ease. His Agility attribute not only boosted his speed but also skyrocketed his neural reflexes.
"Almost there, buddy. Please slow down—my son is only two years old."
The young officer’s eyes held a hint of despair; he felt he might not escape this alive today.
The look in Su Xiao’s eyes earlier was familiar to the young officer—it was the gaze of someone who had killed before.
The young officer also sensed that Su Xiao was different from ordinary murderers. Su Xiao’s stare was far more ferocious, even more so than the serial killer he had encountered a year ago.
"Help me find my blade, and you’ll live."
Su Xiao lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
The young officer sighed and finally nodded.
After driving into a residential complex, Su Xiao arrived at the destination.
"Get out."
Su Xiao held a pitch-black pistol in his hand—it was the young officer’s gun.
Following the young officer’s directions, Su Xiao arrived at the doorstep of the officer’s bureau chief.
"Knock."
The young officer hesitated, glanced at the gun in Su Xiao’s hand, which was already chambered.
Helpless, the young officer could only knock on the door.
"Thump, thump, thump~."
After several knocks, light footsteps sounded from inside the door.
"Who is it, in the middle of the night?"
A slightly weary female voice came from within.
"It’s me, Xiao Zhang."
A dozen seconds later, a middle-aged woman with lingering charm opened the door.
"Come in. What time is it? Is there something at the bureau...?"
The middle-aged woman’s question cut off abruptly as a dark, gleaming pistol pressed against her head.
"Back up slowly. Don’t make a sound."
The middle-aged woman was terrified, staring blankly at Su Xiao. After a moment of shock, she slowly stepped back.
Su Xiao grabbed the young officer beside him, entered the room, and gently closed the door.
As the middle-aged woman retreated, she accidentally bumped into a half-meter-tall vase behind her.
"Crash." The sound of ceramic shattering was especially jarring in the silent living room.
"Don’t, don’t be rash. I didn’t mean to."
Su Xiao ignored the middle-aged woman, his gaze fixed on the coffee table in the living room. On the table sat a blade stand, and there, unmistakably, was his sheathed sword.
Stepping forward, Su Xiao picked up his blade. The familiar feel in his hand brought a smile to his face.
"Mom, it’s so noisy~."
The door to a bedroom in front of Su Xiao opened, and a young girl in a tank top stood at the doorway, rubbing her eyes.
The girl stared blankly at Su Xiao, her mouth slightly open, about to scream.
Su Xiao raised the gun barrel, gesturing for her to go back where she came from. The girl nodded frantically and slammed the door shut with a bang.
With his blade found, Su Xiao strode out under the gaze of the two in the living room, quickly leaving the complex.
"Xiao Zhang, let’s call the police."
The middle-aged woman was terrified, actually suggesting they call the police.
Officer Xiao Zhang gave a bitter smile and looked helplessly at the middle-aged woman.
"I’ll notify the provincial department immediately. That guy is trained—I don’t even know how he subdued me. A dangerous character like that is no ordinary person."

-------------------

By the time Su Xiao’s case was reported to the provincial department, he was already on a high-speed train to a neighboring city.
Su Xiao’s appearance had changed significantly; he looked like a student. Given his age, with a bit of makeup, he could easily pass for a college student.
Arriving in the neighboring city, Su Xiao didn’t linger. He casually boarded a long-distance bus.
With the bus’s jolting, Su Xiao’s body swayed slightly. He appeared to have his eyes closed, resting, but in reality, he was alert to his surroundings.
The crying of a child, the whispered laughter of two young girls in the front seat, a young man diagonally ahead wearing headphones and swaying his body.
"Breaking news: a fugitive from a heinous murder case has appeared in the neighboring city."
The movie playing on the LCD screen at the front of the bus suddenly cut off, and Su Xiao’s photo appeared.
"The suspect..."
The passengers on the bus were all drawn to the news, turning their heads.
Su Xiao sighed inwardly at how fast they moved—less than six hours had passed, and his wanted notice was already out.
But for Su Xiao, the threat of this wanted notice was minimal. Not to mention his own strength, with his stealth abilities, finding him would be nearly impossible for the police.
After several transfers, Su Xiao traveled continuously for four days. By the end, he didn’t even know where he was before he stopped.
Taking out a new phone to check his location, he found himself in DL City, a coastal city.
"Not a bad place."
DL City was surrounded by the sea on three sides. Even if a large number of police searched for him, at worst, he could smuggle himself abroad.
Moreover, his case was just a homicide, not extremely severe—the only anomaly was his resurrection from the dead.
As for his kidnapping of the police officer, that would never be made public.
Unless things got to the worst, Su Xiao didn’t want to flee abroad.
For now, the most important thing was to find a place to settle down. Su Xiao didn’t want to stay in places like hotels—too many people and prying eyes, unsuitable for long-term living.
Standing on a bustling street, Su Xiao felt a pang of hunger. He had been traveling for days without a proper meal.
He found a restaurant and ordered local swimming crabs.
It was May, the season when swimming crabs were at their plumpest and most delicious, each crab weighing at least half a kilo.
Cracking open the hard shell, dipping it in the restaurant’s secret sauce, and taking a hearty bite, the thick, tender meat stimulated his taste buds. The unique seafood aroma left him savoring every moment.
"Boss, check please."
Su Xiao set down the last crab shell and let out a burp.
The restaurant owner walked over with a bill, staring in astonishment at the pile of shells on the table.
"This..." The owner was stunned by Su Xiao’s appetite—he had eaten seven or eight times the normal amount.
The enhancement of his physical attributes meant Su Xiao needed more energy. Strength didn’t appear out of nowhere; it required substantial energy.
"That’ll be 789. You can give me 780."
Su Xiao pulled out a few hundred-yuan bills and handed them to the owner.
"Are there any rentals around here? I’m a student who just arrived and need a place to stay for a few months."
The owner took out his phone, fiddled with it for a moment, then held it up to Su Xiao. The screen displayed ‘DL City Rental Network.’
The look in the restaurant owner’s eyes seemed to say, ‘Young man, no one looks for rentals on the street anymore these days.’
Su Xiao gave an awkward smile, noted the website, and left the restaurant.
Walking along the busy street, Su Xiao’s thumb quickly tapped on his phone screen, browsing the site—a small local social network specializing in housing rentals.
After browsing for a while, he found a somewhat odd rental listing.
‘Prime location, convenient transportation, starting rent 100,000 yuan per month.’
In DL City, a monthly rent of 100,000 yuan wasn’t common, but it wasn’t unheard of. What was puzzling was that the ad didn’t provide much housing information, just left a phone number.
Su Xiao wasn’t short on money, so he decided to call. A place with a monthly rent of 100,000 yuan should have decent conditions, likely a luxury villa.
The call connected quickly, and a somewhat hoarse male voice came through.
"Meet in person. No. 37 Tianhai Road."
With that brief statement, the call ended.
Su Xiao was taken aback for a moment, then shook his head. Too troublesome. There might be other circumstances involved—the 100,000 yuan monthly rent itself was a bit odd. He didn’t want to get mixed up in it, so he decided to choose another location.
