Chapter 943: An Encounter

Infinite Green had never imagined she would encounter this person within White Emperor City.

Although Xuan Yuan Po had left the capital for several years, in her mind, this person would certainly not forget the enmity of the past, just as she herself had not.

Thus, behind his words and seemingly non-hostile actions, there must be hidden extremely sinister intentions, much like how she herself usually operated.

Xuan Yuan Po did not speak.

When Infinite Green spoke these words, she carried a profound hatred, as if gritting her teeth, yet her eyes held a great deal of fear.

Clearly, at this moment, she was very afraid—afraid that Xuan Yuan Po would strike and kill her, or go inform the demon clan experts of White Emperor City.

Seeing this scene, Xuan Yuan Po felt no satisfaction, only a mix of disgust and pity.

He said to Another Kind of Red, "The Deer Tribe's medicine storehouse is not far from here. I know the steward; I should be able to get the medicine."

Another Kind of Red replied, "Then I'll trouble you, young friend."

Infinite Green said sharply, "I don't trust you."

Xuan Yuan Po ignored her, took the medicine list written by Another Kind of Red, and left the room.

Hearing the sound of the courtyard gate closing, Infinite Green's expression shifted. With a mix of tension and anger, she shouted at Another Kind of Red, "That bear cub has a grudge against me! If you let him leave, he'll surely go inform the demon court! You don't even know him—why would you rather trust him than me?"

Another Kind of Red said calmly, "I may not know this person, but I know he is a student of the National Teaching Academy."

Infinite Green was momentarily stunned upon hearing this and said nothing more. However, the slight trembling of her right hand hanging by her side revealed that her heart was far from calm.

After an unknown amount of time, Xuan Yuan Po returned to the small courtyard in Sanhe Lane, carrying a heavy bundle that appeared to contain many things.

Another Kind of Red sincerely thanked him. Xuan Yuan Po shook his head, untied the bundle, and began taking out the medicines.

Suddenly, a sound of breaking wind arose in the quiet room. A horsetail whisk dragged countless fine streaks as it lashed toward Xuan Yuan Po's face.

Xuan Yuan Po never expected this and had no time to react. Fortunately, the Mountain Sea Sword timely soared into the air, hovering above his head to block the whisk.

With a muffled thud, the small courtyard shook slightly. Dust from the cracks between the floorboards was jolted loose and flew everywhere.

If not for the spirit wood true pagoda formations placed on the ground, the commotion would likely have been much greater.

Xuan Yuan Po knelt on one knee, holding his iron sword horizontally in front of him. It felt as if a mountain were pressing down on him, straining him to the limit, his breathing growing heavy.

He looked up at Infinite Green's eyes, which seemed ready to devour him, and shouted with anger and confusion, "Have you gone mad?!"

Infinite Green said harshly, "Back then, I wanted to kill you. Tonight, I refuse to owe you any favor—that would be an insult. So you must die, and only the dead keep secrets!"

Having grown up in a remote tribal mountain forest and later living and studying in the simplest places like the Star Picking Academy and the National Teaching Academy in the capital, Xuan Yuan Po simply could not understand Infinite Green's twisted logic. He said angrily, "How can you be so venomous, woman?!"

Venomous or mad, Infinite Green was still a Sacred Domain expert. Despite her broken arm and severe injuries, she was still countless times stronger than Xuan Yuan Po.

The iron sword gradually sank. Xuan Yuan Po was on the verge of collapse when suddenly, a splash of color appeared in the quiet room.

That color was bright red, moist, and fresh—it was the little red flower.

Seeing the little red flower, Infinite Green's face filled with shock and terror. She withdrew her whisk like lightning and held it protectively in front of her.

With a few soft snaps, Another Kind of Red's fingers moved like the wind, sealing two of Infinite Green's meridians.

Infinite Green was furious. She mobilized her true essence to forcibly break the seal, ready to retaliate.

Another Kind of Red withdrew his fingers and made no move as the whisk came toward him.

Infinite Green's expression froze, and her movements stalled.

A mouthful of true blood sprayed from Another Kind of Red's lips, and his face turned deathly pale.

The little red flower flew back to his side, hovering silently. Its already damaged petals gradually formed dewdrops, as if weeping.

After leaving the cliff plateau, Another Kind of Red had spent several hours gathering a bit of true essence. Now, with this mouthful of true blood, it all dissipated.

Seeing this scene, Infinite Green finally understood something. She let out a cry, rushed over, pulled him into her arms, and wailed.

"You're insane! All for that bear cub!"

Xuan Yuan Po looked utterly bewildered.

He didn't understand what was happening.

Why, when he had good intentions to help them, did Infinite Green want to kill him, while Another Kind of Red protected him? Why had Infinite Green been so furious earlier, wishing Another Kind of Red dead, yet now, seeing him spit blood, she was so anguished, as if she wished she could die in his place?

Were this couple of mainland experts both mad?

Xuan Yuan Po was silent for a moment, then said, "Many people are trying to capture you now. Something big is happening in White Emperor City over the next couple of days, and more experts will arrive. Stay here and don't go out. I have some matters to attend to in the next two days; I'll see how to handle things later."

After saying this, he put away the Mountain Sea Sword, placed the medicines and the food and water he had bought on the ground, and turned to leave.

As he reached the paper door, he stopped and suddenly said, "Sir, a man of your caliber—how did you end up marrying a woman like that?"

Another Kind of Red did not answer the question.

The courtyard's wooden door closed again, and silence returned, broken only by the rustling of the night wind through the dwarf pine.

The room was quiet for a long time, until the atmosphere grew increasingly oppressive and awkward.

Infinite Green looked at Another Kind of Red, her voice trembling slightly. "Senior Brother, all these years... have you regretted marrying me?"

Another Kind of Red looked at her with a gentle smile. "What nonsense are you thinking?"

"That bear cub's words—I doubt this is the first time you've heard them."

The more Infinite Green thought about it, the more ashamed and angry she became. "Do you think I don't know? At the Heavenly Book Mausoleum, on the Sacred Maiden Peak—whether it was that demon empress Tianhai or Wang Po, the way they looked at us... wasn't that the same meaning? The whole world thinks I'm not good enough for you!"

Another Kind of Red sighed and said, "Our affairs—why should we care about others' opinions?"

Infinite Green shouted, "You're no different! You think I embarrass you in front of others."

Another Kind of Red looked at her quietly and said, "Junior Sister, I have never regretted marrying you. I only regret doting on you too much all these years."

As he said this, his expression was sincere.

Infinite Green was stunned.

Whether she truly understood the meaning of his words was unclear.

She only knew she wanted to say something but found she didn't know what to say.

She felt so wronged and began to weep bitterly, thinking to herself, why was her luck so bad back then, that she had to run into this very person?
