Chapter 1050: A Weapon of Blood

"Alright, let's pick a trick weapon."
"Saw Cleaver, Hunter Axe, Threaded Cane."
"And firearms: Pistol, Blunderbuss."
"The variety of weapons here isn't necessarily more complex than Dark Souls, but it feels like a different approach entirely."
"It says here the axe can extend, so it's probably meant to be used as a long weapon, but the attacks might be slower."
"The Saw Cleaver should have faster attack speed, but no area-of-effect. Hmm... but I have no idea what this cane thing is at all."
"Okay, I'll go with the Threaded Cane and the Blunderbuss. A weapon that turns into a whip feels like it'd be a joke in Dark Souls, but to prove I'm strong, I'll give it a shot."
"This is basically a walking stick, isn't it? So gentlemanly..."

After getting the weapons, Old Qin started studying how to use them.
The first thing he noticed upon holding them was that the cane was very light, while the Blunderbuss was a bit heavier, but still within acceptable range.
Gripping the cane, he could perform basic slashing, chopping, thrusting, and stabbing motions, similar to a rapier. However, one unique feature was a special mechanism on the cane that allowed it to change form when activated.
Pressing the mechanism and giving it a hard flick, the blade of the cane split into multiple segments, working on a principle similar to the "Snake Tail Sword" from some anime.
Old Qin tried swinging it a few times. At first, he worried he might smack himself in the face, but it turned out he was overthinking it.
When the whip-form cane was swung, it swept horizontally across about a 180-degree arc in front of him. Once it passed that range and started moving behind him, the blades would automatically fold back together, allowing the player to swing in the opposite direction again.
In other words, the system directly reduced the difficulty of using this weapon from a gameplay perspective; otherwise, ordinary players wouldn't be able to handle it.
"I feel... a bit uneasy. I don't think a weapon like this suits a brute-force player like me."

After choosing his weapons, Old Qin continued upward.
Under normal circumstances, if a player got killed by the werewolf, the workshop door wouldn't open. But since Old Qin had already activated the first lantern, the door was open.
Inside the workshop, an old man with white hair and a withered face sat in a wheelchair. Old Qin could see that his right lower leg was missing, replaced by a prosthetic.
"Ah-ha, you must be the new hunter."
"Welcome to the Hunter's Dream. This will be your new home, at least for now."
"I am... Gehrman, a friend to you hunters."
"You're probably a bit confused right now, but don't overthink it. Just go out and kill some beasts. It's for your own good."
"You know, that's what hunters do. You'll get used to it..."
"This is the Hunter's Workshop. Many tools have been lost, but feel free to use whatever you can find."

Old Qin blinked as he looked at Gehrman, and Gehrman looked back at him.
"Can you tell me what I'm supposed to do now?"
Gehrman let out a cryptic laugh: "Ah, new hunters are always so curious. Go hunt more beasts. Soon enough, you'll understand your purpose."

Just like in Iron Man, the NPCs in Bloodborne...
