Chapter 1022: Test Drive
"Wow! The interior, the seats, the feel—this is incredible!"
Lin Xue sat down in the car and started touching everything, like a curious little kid.
At this point, the livestream perspective switched to Lin Xue's first-person view, allowing the audience to clearly see the luxurious interior of this supercar.
Lin Xue gently touched the dashboard: "As expected, this is actually a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, with a metal bezel in the middle dividing it into three zones. That blend of tradition and high-tech feels amazing!"
"Also, I feel like a lot of elements in this car are inspired by seashells. The hood kind of looks like a shell, and the seat patterns inside are very similar to the texture of a shell's surface. This leather is top-grade cowhide, with hollowed-out embossing—it's the same craftsmanship as high-end leather goods and shoes."
Lin Xue then touched the door and panel sections: "This should be carbon fiber, and it uses different techniques. The varying reflective surfaces look like granite—really beautiful."
"And the seats are fully functional, adjustable in every way, with incredible support. Right now, I feel like I'm sitting in a massage chair—absolutely no discomfort at all."
Lin Xue looked up again: "And the interior space is pretty spacious. Maybe that's how sports cars are? They look low from the outside, but once you sit inside, it feels very comfortable. The only slightly odd thing is that the car feels a bit wide; the in-car perspective takes some getting used to."
The barrage comments went wild: "A-Xue, you didn't even pass your driving test's second stage, so how are you analyzing this so confidently? A keyboard warrior?!"
Lin Xue's face darkened: "What do you mean 'keyboard warrior'? I've driven tons of cars in GTA, okay? Whether it's a pickup or a supercar, I've driven them all—way more than you guys! Let me tell you, in real life, I don't dare to drive, but in games, I'm a seasoned driver, alright?"
"Hmph, words are useless. Let me take you for a ride and show you my skills!"
Lin Xue professionally adjusted the seat to a comfortable position, buckled her seatbelt, and lightly pressed the start button.
In reality, many keyless-start vehicles have fingerprint scanners on the start button, but that wasn't needed in the virtual world. This car belonged to Lin Xue, so only she could start it.
The button clicked with a "kada" sound.
As a low engine rumble hummed to life, the center console display lit up with the words "DB11." The engine start sound wasn't loud; inside the car, you could only faintly hear it. But from the sound alone, you could tell this car had a great powertrain and a powerful engine. The hum was like the low growl and roar of a wild beast, then it almost disappeared, leaving the cabin nearly silent.
"Okay, lady driver is online!"
Although Lin Xue hadn't passed her driving test's second stage, she had driven (and crashed) plenty of cars in GTA and completed many racing and chase missions. Her driving skills might not be great, but at least she had guts...
When Lin Xue was curious about a button on the car, she focused her gaze on it and mentally queried its function, and the interface automatically displayed a description.
"Wow, so this button controls the 360-degree camera? The resolution is really high—this is a lifesaver for someone like me with almost no sense of the car's dimensions..."
Lin Xue pressed the camera button, and the center console screen immediately showed a top-down view and a front view. Two yellow lines extended from the front hood to remind the driver if the car's width would hit anything.
Most cars have a reverse camera on the center console, mainly to help drivers judge their trajectory when backing up. But this Aston Martin's 360-degree camera was a real show-off feature because it was panoramic...
On the screen, it looked like someone was filming from several meters above the car, with the vehicle centered in the frame, taking up only about one-ninth of the image. The driver could see all blind spots around the car, making it easy to drive forward or reverse.
In the virtual world, this technology was easy to implement, but the key point was that it also existed in reality... In the real world, four wide-angle HD cameras are placed outside the car to capture footage, which is then seamlessly stitched into a real-time surround view.
Obviously, this kind of technology was tailor-made for drivers like Lin Xue—women drivers, parking-challenged folks, and scratch-prone types. Otherwise, for someone like Lin Xue, who spent over three months learning how to parallel park, driving on the road without an accident would be pretty tough...
Driving on the road.
The Aston Martin rolled out of the garage of Lin Xue's beachfront mansion and onto the road outside.
There were no other cars on the road at first, so Lin Xue kept driving forward. Occasionally, she saw a few vehicles, but the road was wide, and the other drivers were friendly—no one was racing recklessly—so the driving experience was excellent.
"Wow, this car is so comfortable to drive! Even though I've driven some great sports cars in GTA, there's still a difference somehow," Lin Xue said excitedly, keeping her eyes on the road while making small adjustments to the steering wheel.
After a few minutes, Lin Xue let loose and started flooring the accelerator. The scenery outside the window began to blur as it rushed past. The strong push from the acceleration, combined with the incredibly comfortable seats, immersed Lin Xue in the joy of driving, and she was having a blast.
In reality, the Aston Martin in "Oasis" had similar performance to many luxury cars in GTA. Of course, since the cars in "Oasis" were meant to be sold for real money, the interiors and other details were more refined, more exquisite, and more comfortable. But overall, they weren't necessarily faster than GTA's sports cars.
Yet for Lin Xue, the driving experience felt vastly different.
It was mainly a matter of mindset. In GTA, players usually drove recklessly, crashing into things without caring about consequences, and they were always in a hurry to complete missions or traverse the map. The car was just a tool for transportation, and few players truly enjoyed the driving experience.
But in "Oasis," because the entire world was highly realistic, driving felt closer to real life. In GTA, players often sped past 100 mph, but in "Oasis," driving at 70 or 80 mph felt very fast. Moreover, in "Oasis," players weren't driving to rush somewhere; their mindset was very relaxed. The road conditions were excellent, with virtually no traffic jams or red lights, so the driving experience was greatly enhanced.
