Chapter 958: Sucker, I’ve Got Medicine

There were still plenty of resources to gather around Dukang Village, so this Tang Sect disciple wasn’t in a hurry to leave. Instead, he continued wandering around the village. Old Qin and Zou Zhuo couldn’t make a move in plain sight, so they kept their distance, watching from afar.

It went without saying that if they struck here, too many villagers would witness it. With one being a Shaolin disciple and the other a Wudang disciple, their robes were far too conspicuous…

Of course, the two could opt for an *Assassin’s Creed*-style stealth approach, but that would mean slaughtering the entire Dukang Village without leaving a single witness—utterly deranged…

“He’s gone into that cave.” Old Qin pointed to a cavern at the foot of a mountain just outside Dukang Village.

“Let’s go, we’re following him.” Zou Zhuo leaped out from behind a tree and used his lightness skill to rush toward the cave entrance.

As he moved, Zou Zhuo explained, “If this follows the plot of *The Legend of Heroes*, this cave should be Dukang Village’s wine storage. We’ll probably run into the ‘Drinker’ from the ‘Eat, Drink, Whore, Gamble’ group. This time, we absolutely can’t let that Tang Sect bastard get ahead of us.”

Just as they reached the cave entrance, sounds of fighting echoed from inside.

Suddenly, a figure flew out—the Tang Sect disciple crashed hard onto the ground, spitting blood uncontrollably.

A tall, burly figure followed close behind. This guy stood nearly one meter ninety, with bulging muscles, a flushed face from drinking, disheveled hair hanging loose, and a massive wine jar cradled in his arms.

“Hmph, I can’t stand you so-called righteous types. Die, all of you!”

The drunkard raised the huge wine jar and swung it down directly at Old Qin’s head!

Old Qin: “Buddy, hold on! This has nothing to do with us! Sorry to bother you!”

But it was useless—no matter what Old Qin said, it was all in team chat, so other wild players and NPCs couldn’t hear him.

Old Qin had no choice but to quickly sidestep, dodging the blow.

At that moment, the Tang Sect disciple spoke up: “Fellow heroes, how about we join forces to kill this scoundrel? All the loot on him is yours!”

Options appeared in Old Qin and Zou Zhuo’s field of view. Both selected [Agree].

Old Qin’s character replied, “Amitabha. Eliminating evil and upholding justice is the mission of us Shaolin disciples. How could I refuse?”

Clearly, this dialogue was auto-completed by the system; players just needed to pick an option.

However, even after establishing cooperation, friendly fire was still possible. It was more like a verbal agreement—similar to two players teaming up in a *PUBG* solo match—with no rule-based enforcement, relying entirely on mutual trust.

The three of them faced off against the drunkard [Drinker], engaging in a chaotic brawl.

At this point, the differences between the three sects became apparent. The Tang Sect disciple stood at a distance, constantly attacking with hidden weapons, while Old Qin and Zou Zhuo closed in for melee combat on either side.

The fight felt a lot like *Monster Hunter*, except they were battling a person instead of a monster. [Drinker] would attack the three based on AI, but with Zou Zhuo and Old Qin tying him down, he could barely break free to target the Tang Sect disciple.

Zou Zhuo accidentally got grazed by the drunkard’s wine jar, and his health dropped by a huge chunk.

“This guy’s tough.”

Since it was three against one, Zou Zhuo’s sword and Old Qin’s staff frequently landed hits on [Drinker], and the Tang Sect disciple’s hidden weapons struck several times as well. But from the looks of it, though [Drinker] had gained some wounds, he was still swinging with vigor, showing almost no signs of fatigue.

Clearly, this fight wasn’t going to end quickly—at least five or six minutes.

The Tang Sect disciple frowned slightly, obviously not wanting the battle to drag on.

A hidden weapon, glowing with a faint green light, struck [Drinker] square in the back.

At first, nothing seemed off. But just over ten seconds later, [Drinker]’s face, already red from drink, took on a greenish tint. He began to sway unsteadily, barely able to hold onto his wine jar.

“Poison! What a ‘righteous’ and ‘honorable’ act! I’m not playing with you three brats anymore. Next time, I’ll take your miserable lives!”

With that, [Drinker] slammed his wine jar to the ground. The moment Zou Zhuo and Old Qin backed off, he hurled the jar aside and fled swiftly into the distance.

“The scoundrel’s poisoned. Finish him off—chase him!” the Tang Sect disciple said.

Without any hesitation, the three gave chase.

No way—were they going to let a fat prize slip through their fingers?

[Drinker] didn’t head back to Dukang Village but instead ran toward the wilderness. Clearly, his lightness skill surpassed theirs. Only Zou Zhuo, with his relatively better skill, could barely keep up; the other two gradually fell behind.

However, likely due to the poison’s effects, [Drinker]’s speed kept slowing down. Eventually, the poison reached his heart, and he collapsed beneath a tree.

“Damn, that poison’s potent—his whole face is green.”

Zou Zhuo didn’t dare get too close, watching from a distance. Soon, Old Qin and the Tang Sect disciple caught up.

After a moment, [Drinker] lay motionless, his skin entirely green, like a certain orc shaman.

The Tang Sect disciple said, “Thank you both for your help. As promised, all the scoundrel’s loot is yours. Go ahead.”

Zou Zhuo and Old Qin approached [Drinker], ready to scavenge his belongings.

Obviously, the Tang Sect disciple had certain fixed options. For instance, when proposing cooperation earlier, he could choose the [Cooperate] action and several [Distribution Methods], and he’d opted to give away all the gains.

After defeating an enemy, the system automatically fulfilled the promise. The entire process involved selecting options first, then the system’s AI automatically polished and delivered the lines.

“So much good stuff!” Zou Zhuo muttered.

There were no weapons—[Drinker]’s weapon was that big wine jar. But there were hidden weapons, healing pills, martial arts manuals, and plenty of silver. It was a very rich haul.

But just then, Old Qin suddenly shouted, “Watch out!”

Zou Zhuo felt a jolt in his back, and a green glow flickered at the edge of his vision. A system prompt appeared: “Poisoned—Extreme Toxin!!”

Before Zou Zhuo could react, more hidden weapons flew toward Old Qin. It seemed Old Qin had been on guard against the Tang Sect disciple all along, so he wasn’t caught off guard.

Zou Zhuo was fuming: “Damn it, traitors everywhere! Is there no basic trust between people?!”

But he had no time to rant—he could see his health bar in the upper left plummeting rapidly, dropping by huge chunks every second. His vision began to blur, and his whole body swayed uncontrollably.

Clearly, the Tang Sect disciple was confident in the potency of his poisoned weapons. He didn’t even bother looking at Zou Zhuo anymore, focusing all his effort on fighting Old Qin.

But just as he thought he was gaining the upper hand, a sword flash suddenly struck from behind!

The Tang Sect disciple was startled and hurriedly dodged, but the sword still grazed his right arm, sending blood spraying!

He stared at Zou Zhuo in disbelief. How was this Wudang disciple, who had been on the verge of death from poison moments ago, now bouncing around again??

Old Qin was also pleasantly surprised: “Little fatty, you didn’t kick the bucket!”

Zou Zhuo looked utterly exasperated: “Damn it, lucky I’ve got medicine, or that traitor would’ve really screwed me over!”
