Chapter 854: An Incomprehensible World
Ideals are plump, but reality is bony.
Many players, motivated by the rewards, once again entered *Silent Hill*, only to find their SAN values plummeting from fear once more…
Although the players’ tolerance kept improving with each repeated entry into *Silent Hill*, it still seemed unable to keep up with the game’s bizarre thought process.
In this eerie town, players gritted their teeth and pressed on, soon encountering even more bizarre events and terrifying scenes.
Moreover, the players discovered that besides the protagonist, there were other living people in Silent Hill.
Maria, who looked exactly like the protagonist’s deceased wife, Mary, but dressed provocatively, with a seductive demeanor, every gesture full of temptation and allure.
Eddie, an emotionally unstable fat man who seemed to have a history of killing.
Laura, a little girl who loved playing pranks, running around Silent Hill without ever getting hurt.
And Angela, the long-haired black-haired woman they met at the start, who always liked toying with a knife and had suicidal tendencies.
Every single one of them was unhinged. Eddie seemed on the verge of a mental breakdown that could lead to murder at any moment. Little Laura played a prank that locked the protagonist in a hospital room, forcing him to face three terrifying monsters alone. And Angela repeatedly hinted that the protagonist should end his own life.
The only normal person was Maria. It had to be said, this pretty girl in her crop top was the only trustworthy companion the protagonist had in Silent Hill. Her every move was full of charm, radiating a seductive, hormonal allure, and she showed a dependence on and expectation for the protagonist, not hiding her feelings at all.
Apartments, hospitals, prisons. Just when players felt they had barely adapted to one scene, *Silent Hill* would arrange a new one for them—a more terrifying, more bizarre scene.
Not only that, but these scenes would undergo extremely eerie changes as the plot progressed.
After being locked in a room by little Laura’s prank, the protagonist was forced to kill three deformed monsters hanging from the ceiling. But the moment he walked out the door, everything changed.
A deep red, flesh-like substance suddenly spread out, covering the entire space.
Instantly, this place became a world without light, only darkness. The walls were suddenly covered in water stains, bloodstains, and mold spots. Rusty wire mesh and iron objects were everywhere.
Corpses were scattered all around. Paths that were previously passable were now blocked, while some that were blocked before were now open.
Players had thought the hospital was already a place of utter despair and oppression, but only after the entire scene shifted to the Otherworld did they realize that the previous hospital was practically heaven…
Thankfully, Maria would follow closely behind the protagonist, never leaving his side.
But just as players felt a slight easing of their hearts, the tall, pyramid-headed monster appeared again. And it was utterly invincible. No matter how many bullets players wasted, no matter how they attacked, the Pyramid Head wouldn’t die. Instead, many players repeatedly met a gruesome end under its great knife.
With no other choice, the protagonist could only keep running with Maria. But eventually, as they entered an elevator, Maria was brutally killed by the Pyramid Head.
As the elevator doors closed, the protagonist slumped to the ground, seeming to instantly lose all motivation to continue.
At this moment, the players felt the same despair as the protagonist, but they still had to persevere, walking forward alone.
From the historical museum to the prison, the scenes grew darker and more terrifying. And the way the protagonist reached the next location was… by jumping down into a pitch-black cave.
The cave was bottomless, completely dark, with no telling what dangers lay below. But there was no other path; they had to jump.
After jumping many times, with the players’ minds on the verge of collapse, the protagonist encountered Maria again in the prison. She looked perfectly healthy, as if the gruesome death earlier had just been the protagonist’s illusion.
But when the protagonist finally struggled past the prison fence, he found Maria lying on a bed, turned into a blood-soaked corpse.
Throughout the journey, the protagonist kept encountering those other people: the fat man Eddie, little Laura, and the black-haired girl Angela.
But every time he met Eddie and Angela, they seemed to have become even more mentally unstable.
Eddie, holding a pistol, muttered about the people who had looked down on him, saying he had killed them one by one.
Angela knelt on the ground, screaming hysterically.
In the end, Eddie went mad and tried to attack the protagonist, who killed him. Angela walked into a blazing fire, ending her own life…
Guided by little Laura, the protagonist finally arrived at the lakeside hotel—that special place he had promised to meet Mary.
…
Old P himself couldn’t quite say what had kept him going this far.
On this eerie, terrifying journey, he had wanted to give up countless times.
The terrifying environment, the bizarre monsters, the insane characters, the plot twists… any one of these factors would have been enough to make him quit.
But he couldn’t explain why he had still come to the lakeside hotel, to the place he had promised to meet Mary.
Was it the urging from the chat audience? Not really.
Old P knew that, somewhere in the middle of the game, a kind of curiosity had been driving him. He really wanted to know the truth behind all of this.
Why were there so many terrifying monsters in Silent Hill?
Why had everyone else gone mad, either killing or committing suicide?
How had Mary managed to write the protagonist letters? Why did little Laura hate the protagonist so much?
And what was the story between the protagonist and his deceased wife?
*Silent Hill* seemed like a completely incomprehensible story, because everything that happened in it completely overturned people’s understanding and common sense. No matter how you looked at it, it didn’t make sense.
But Old P also vaguely felt that this wasn’t a purely imaginary story. At least, now that he had reached the lakeside hotel, Chen Mo should give all the players an explanation, tell everyone the truth behind it all.
After taking a deep breath, Old P entered room 312 of the lakeside hotel—the same room he and Mary had once stayed in.
Unexpectedly, the room was very bright.
Outside the window was the street of Silent Hill, shrouded in a pale, hazy mist, but the light shining into the room made visibility very high.
The room was tidy, looking like it had gathered a bit of dust, but the furniture and bed were still intact. Even the glass wasn’t too dirty or damaged, as if it didn’t belong in this town at all.
In front of the window stood a television and a VCR.
Old P picked up the videotape and inserted it into the VCR.
