Chapter 776: Professional Skills
In the cathedral square, Lin Xue saw the statue of Uther the Lightbringer in front of the central cathedral. He was in a half-kneeling posture, holding a holy book in his left hand and raising a warhammer high in his right, as if praying to the Holy Light for something.
Entering the Cathedral of Light, rows of golden high candlesticks illuminated the entire cathedral brilliantly. At the center of the cathedral, an elderly priest who looked both dignified and merciful was watching Lin Xue.
Lin Xue knew that this elderly priest was Archbishop Benedictus, also one of the important figures in Stormwind City. However, Lin Xue didn't want to go up and chat with him; she could imagine that every word out of his mouth would be about the Holy Light.
In the Dwarven District, the floors were all dark red, and the sky seemed hazy from the accumulation of steam and smoke, giving Lin Xue the illusion that she had traveled back to the Imperial Capital.
The NPCs here were mainly dwarves and gnomes. These short-statured little people were all busy with their own affairs—some were repairing mechanical birds, some were organizing parts, some were smelting ore by the furnace, and some were forging weapons...
It seemed that these dwarves got along very well with humans, occasionally chatting with the patrolling Stormwind guards.
In the Dwarven District, Lin Xue discovered another auction house and bank. At first, she was puzzled about their purpose, but after thinking it over, she realized they were probably for the convenience of merchants who needed to smelt or forge near the furnaces.
In the Dwarven District, Lin Xue also found a hidden mine tunnel subway, but upon entering, she noticed a signboard stating that the subway was not yet open.
Lin Xue sat on a bench beside the subway and found the place quite technologically impressive. The floors were paved with cast iron, exuding the "reliability" of goblin technology. However, judging by the composition of the Alliance personnel, this was most likely gnomish technology.
Lin Xue even saw a display screen that should have shown the subway's operating status, but at the moment, the screen was black.
After sitting for a while, Lin Xue seemed to faintly hear cheers coming from somewhere.
"Am I hallucinating? That can't be right—there really is a sound."
Lin Xue was a bit puzzled. She wandered around the upper level twice but found no one except a sleazy merchant selling skewered sewer rat meat.
But the sounds kept coming. Besides cheers and shouts, there was someone loudly saying things like, "Now welcome our level 8 fighter," and "Do whatever it takes to survive."
"Could it be... under the mine tunnel subway?"
Lin Xue walked down the subway tunnel skeptically. Since the subway wasn't open yet, she didn't have to worry about being run over. Only after descending into the tunnel did she discover a hidden entrance in front of her, leading further down.
Lin Xue walked down for a long time and eventually arrived at a place called the "Bizmo Brawl Club."
As soon as she entered, Lin Xue was hit by a thunderous wave of cheers and shouts!
Several burly bodyguards were staring at Lin Xue with unfriendly expressions, clearly ready to intervene if she tried to cause trouble.
"Wow, not only is there a subway, but there's also a place like this inside it? An underground arena?"
The brawl club was quite spacious inside. Lin Xue had no idea what kind of backing this guy named Bizmo had in Stormwind City to dig such a huge pit in the subway, successfully establish a brawl club, and recruit so many fighters.
The one who had been shouting nonstop was Bizmo himself. He was a dwarf with a crescent-shaped long beard, piloting a dwarf helicopter that circled above the arena. Every time a fighter entered, he would bellow out introductions to the audience, tirelessly.
Nearby, there was a place selling drinks and food. The audience sat in the stands, drinking and cheering. Some overly excited spectators even stood on their seats, dancing nonstop.
Curious, Lin Xue approached the arena and watched the fights.
The fighters in the brawl came from various races and professions, but the match format was always the same: hero versus monster. As long as the person entering the arena came out alive, it was considered a victory.
The monsters in the arena were diverse—ogres, demons, beasts, and Lin Xue even saw a strange mushroom.
After watching a few matches, Lin Xue saw both wins and losses. However, even if a fighter lost, they wouldn't truly die, because there was a spirit healer on the opposite side of the arena who could resurrect the fallen.
Beside the arena, there was an NPC named Sir Winfred Brown who accepted bets from the audience on match outcomes.
Lin Xue wanted to try her luck with a bet, but she instinctively felt that this place was a bit dangerous, so she decided to explore other areas first and come back later.
Leaving the mine tunnel subway, Lin Xue arrived at the Old Town. There, she found the Command Center, the Champion's Hall, and SI:7. Many human soldiers were practicing their combat skills on training dummies.
At SI:7, Lin Xue met Master Mathias Shaw, the leader of SI:7 in the Warcraft universe. He was currently at a conference table, discussing intelligence with several other seemingly important figures. Lin Xue tried to eavesdrop but was stopped by two guards.
To Lin Xue's surprise, as she was heading downstairs, she encountered a human with a black short beard wearing leather armor. He approached her and asked if she wanted to become a rogue.
"Huh? So because I chose leather armor, I activated a hidden class quest? I agree!"
Lin Xue agreed without a second thought. Her combat power was basically zero right now, so if she could activate a class, didn't that mean she could fight others?
"First, here are two daggers. As a rogue, daggers are our primary weapons. Many skills require daggers to activate. Of course, if you insist on using two one-handed maces, I won't stop you, but please don't tell anyone you're my apprentice, alright?"
The trainer said, handing two daggers to Lin Xue.
Lin Xue reached out and took them, holding the daggers in her hands. She felt like she was playing Dark Souls.
"Next is the first skill: Stealth. Stealth allows us to approach enemies quietly without being detected..."
"The second skill is Backstab..."
"The third skill is Kidney Shot..."
In front of the training dummy, the trainer explained the skill characteristics and usage methods to Lin Xue while demonstrating them himself. After the demonstration, he asked Lin Xue to try each skill herself, only considering them officially learned after she had used them all.
"Alright, it seems you have good talent. You've already learned them. Use these skills well, and remember, these special techniques are just the icing on the cake. A warrior's true strength lies in their basic combat skills. There are also some hidden combat challenges in Stormwind City. Good luck."
After finishing the lesson, the trainer turned around and returned to SI:7, ignoring Lin Xue.
Lin Xue practiced the skills on the training dummy again, thoroughly experiencing the current combat system.
"Why does this feel... a bit like Dark Souls? ...Dark Souls with class skills added???"
