Chapter 449: Someone Cheating?
On the Moyu live streaming platform, in Pursley’s stream room.
As one of the popular streamers for *Overwatch*, Old P’s stream room now had a steady audience of over a million viewers. He had already been somewhat well-known in the domestic FPS scene, and now, riding the wave of *Overwatch*’s popularity, his fame had climbed even higher.
*Overwatch* differed from other FPS games. It featured both conventional assault heroes like Soldier: 76 and snipers like Widowmaker, as well as more specialized assassin-type heroes like Genji, making it more entertaining to watch.
After using Genji to flank, draw his blade, and wipe out the enemy team in a team fight, the barrage of comments was filled with “6666,” which left Old P feeling quite satisfied.
The only downside was that *Overwatch* didn’t have a ranked mode yet, so he couldn’t climb to Grandmaster and show off in the stream. But that wasn’t a big deal—streaming didn’t require being in a high rank anyway. As long as the gameplay was exciting, the viewers would love it.
A new match began. This time it was Volskaya Industries, and Old P was on the attacking side.
“Today, I’m going to show you all a masterclass in flying rat skills. Watch closely!”
Old P immediately picked Junkrat.
Since Chen Mo hadn’t opened ranked mode and provided very clear post-match stats, the quick play ecosystem hadn’t been too affected. Players just played whatever they wanted, and even if someone picked the “Rebuild the Empire” combo, no one would flame them.
As long as you played well and could carry, it was fine.
“What a bunch of freaks and weirdos in here! But... I love it!”
“I know there’s something out there that can blow me sky-high, yet here I am, just messing around!”
During the preparation phase, Junkrat already seemed impatient. As soon as the gate opened, Old P’s Junkrat dropped a mine at his own feet, launching himself onto the rooftop outside Point A’s entrance to scout the enemy’s composition.
“Hmm? They’ve got a Bastion? And with Reinhardt positioned like that, what’s the deal?”
Old P was a bit surprised because there was a Bastion on the rooftop behind Point A, with a Reinhardt and a Mercy providing close protection.
After players had figured out ways to counter Bastion, the hero wasn’t picked every match like before. Old P was a skilled player with high hidden MMR, so his opponents were relatively strong. Normally, picking Bastion on this map didn’t make sense.
On Volskaya Industries’ Point A, Bastion didn’t have great positioning options for the defending side. The attackers had multiple entry points, with at least four or five spots to sneak up on Bastion. So Bastion’s damage output environment was poor, and he could easily get taken out instantly.
Choosing such an outdated “Mercy-Reinhardt-Bastion” combo under these circumstances was a bit strange.
The attackers rushed in together. The enemy had Genji, Widowmaker, and Roadhog on the ground, and they were quickly taken out by the attackers.
But just as everyone charged toward the objective to take out the enemy Bastion, something unexpected happened.
Bastion almost instantly swiveled his gun barrel toward Old P, who had appeared in his line of sight. Before Old P could even throw out a few bombs, Bastion mowed him down with a burst of bullets, leaving his eggs scattered everywhere.
“Triple kill!”
“Quadruple kill!”
“Pentakill!”
Old P was startled. What was going on?
He quickly opened the kill cam. In the stream room, over a million viewers also saw Bastion’s first-person perspective when he killed Old P.
Old P’s Junkrat had briefly peeked out from behind a house near Point A, intending to toss some bombs at Bastion’s second-floor position to wear down Reinhardt’s shield. Bastion had originally been targeting Old P’s teammate, Soldier: 76, on the ground.
But the moment Old P’s Junkrat showed himself, Bastion’s gun instantly locked onto him. The Gatling barrel began spinning rapidly, and with a series of “ding ding ding ding” sounds, almost all the bullets hit Old P’s Junkrat in the head, instantly killing him!
Not only that, but after taking out Junkrat, Bastion’s crosshair instantly snapped back to Soldier: 76 nearby.
Although the kill cam ended there, everyone knew what happened next. Under Reinhardt’s protection, Bastion wiped out everyone on the ground, securing the pentakill.
Aside from Tracer, who tried to get close and take out Bastion but was killed by Reinhardt’s hammer, everyone else was taken down by Bastion alone.
After seeing Old P’s kill cam, the stream’s comment section exploded.
“???”
“What’s going on?”
“Killed that fast? Something’s off with that Bastion!”
“Instant snap aim? Constant headshots? One versus five?”
“Is that Bastion cheating?!”
Old P also felt something was off. The six attackers had died almost simultaneously, so they all respawned together.
Old P silently switched to Genji.
This time, the six attackers were all fired up. As soon as they entered Point A, they ignored the objective entirely and rushed straight to the second floor through the right room, heading for Bastion.
Old P’s Genji flanked from the left, waiting until his teammates engaged Bastion before climbing the wall to the second floor and throwing shurikens at Bastion from behind.
But Bastion’s reaction was still incredibly fast, and his aim was deadly accurate. As the five attackers swarmed in, Bastion precisely locked onto the squishiest target, Tracer, and took her out instantly.
Tracer frantically used all three blinks and her Recall, but it was useless. Bastion tracked her head the entire time and finished her off.
The others didn’t fare much better. Since the attackers hadn’t picked Reinhardt, the remaining players became sitting ducks, falling one by one under Bastion’s absurdly high headshot rate.
Old P’s Genji attacked from behind, trying to finish off the half-health Bastion. The moment Bastion’s gun turned toward him, Old P immediately activated [Deflect], hoping to reflect the bullets back and kill Bastion.
But Bastion eerily stopped firing. In a fraction of a second, he redirected his gun at someone else, completely ignoring Genji.
Old P’s [Deflect] ended without deflecting a single bullet!
This attack was doomed to fail again. After [Deflect]’s duration expired, Bastion’s gun locked onto him in a second. Under the Gatling’s furious spin, Old P’s health dropped to zero almost instantly. Even using [Swift Strike] to escape was futile.
The second attack failed again. The attacking players all confirmed it: that Bastion was cheating!
From the kill cam, this Bastion seemed even more ridiculous. Not only did he perform 180-degree instant snap-aims to lock onto heads, but his headshot rate was absurdly high, with “ding ding ding” headshot sounds ringing out nonstop.
Clearly, this level of aiming accuracy was beyond what any normal human could achieve.
In the match chat, the attacking team was already typing furiously.
“Bastion cheating?”
“Damn, you piece of shit, cheaters die with their whole family!”
“You’re not even bothering to fake it? Not afraid of getting banned?”
Most players struggled to stay calm when facing a cheater, and they all cursed him out, even including the Reinhardt and Mercy protecting Bastion.
The enemy Bastion simply replied with two words: “Heh heh.”
