Chapter 246: Network Mode
The two of them wandered around the central district for a while longer.
Lin Xue said, "Hey, these buildings are really well-made. I almost want to buy a house and bring it back. Thinking about my own doghouse makes me feel so frustrated."
Chen Mo asked, "So, it really isn't a tomb?"
Lin Xue sent a "furious" emoji: "Get lost!"
Chen Mo chuckled. "Although I really hope you'll spend money, I still have to advise you not to buy one yet."
Lin Xue asked, "Why?"
Chen Mo led Lin Xue to the rooftop of a large building.
"Of course," Chen Mo said, looking at her. "Network mode is about everyone starting from scratch and developing slowly. That's why mutual help and collaboration are necessary."
Obviously, this valley was one of the players' spawn points. But unlike other online games, in *My World*, there were no guiding NPCs or quests. Players spawned directly into the valley, surrounded by nothing but dirt blocks and trees—nothing else.
There were many spawn points like this. The entire map was set by Chen Mo: spawn points, terrain, initial buildings, and so on were all fixed. Players would be scattered as much as possible across different spawn points when they entered.
A player named "Feng Liang" walked toward Chen Mo and Lin Xue. He was holding a pickaxe, apparently having been mining stone blocks.
"Hello, you two. If you're new players, please consider joining our guild. With everyone pooling ideas and efforts, survival and development will be much easier," Feng Liang said.
Lin Xue looked at Chen Mo.
Chen Mo nodded. "Sure, we're both newbies. You'll have to guide us a lot, Guild Leader."
Lin Xue: "..."
Feng Liang was delighted. "Great, I'll send you both guild invitations now. Please accept them."
Chen Mo and Lin Xue both accepted and joined Feng Liang's guild.
Feng Liang enthusiastically introduced things to Chen Mo and Lin Xue. "Actually, I haven't been playing long myself, but I guess I really like this kind of block-building game, so I picked it up quickly."
"We're currently in a phase of division of labor. How about this: you two go help collect some wood first. Just take out that axe and chop trees to get wood. Once we gather enough materials, we'll start building houses."
Lin Xue nodded. "Okay, sounds good."
The two of them each took out their axes and went to chop trees.
As Lin Xue chopped trees, she observed that the guild's players indeed had a clear division of labor. Some collected wood, some mined stone, and others were at the crafting table making various materials.
Daytime in network mode lasted much longer, but the night mode couldn't be skipped by sleeping, so the nights in network mode were more dangerous.
However, with a large group of players gathered together, even if monsters appeared at night, everyone could just take one swing each with their axes and kill them. So this so-called "danger" was only relative.
Soon, Chen Mo and Lin Xue had collected a lot of wood and brought it back.
They also had a fair amount of stone blocks and wooden planks. Feng Liang thought it over and decided to start building houses now.
"Alright, everyone, throw all the materials on the ground. I'll pick them up and build the houses. Yes, throw them on this empty lot here. My plan is to build a row of fairly large houses on this open space. Let's start with four rooms as a preliminary shelter. I'll build first, then three of you follow me and build exactly the same, okay?"
After saying this, Feng Liang casually picked three people to build houses with him, and Chen Mo was among them.
"Okay, I'm starting now. I'll build slowly, so watch carefully. You have to build exactly like me, or I'll have to tear yours down and rebuild."
With that, Feng Liang began laying the foundation and then building the house.
Lin Xue couldn't help thinking to herself, *Sure enough, people who love this kind of block-building game all have a bit of OCD!*
Feng Liang was pretty good at building houses. First, he surrounded the foundation with stone blocks, then laid wooden planks, built the outer walls, put on the roof, opened windows, and installed glass...
It actually looked quite decent.
Feng Liang didn't build too fast because he had to keep up with the others. He would finish a section and then pause to wait for them.
"You built this part wrong. Tear it down."
"Isn't this wall a bit short? Take another look."
Feng Liang's house was already half-finished and looked quite nice. In network mode, players couldn't fly yet (flight items hadn't been unlocked), so Feng Liang had to walk around to the side of the neighboring houses to see the others.
As he walked along, he pointed out mistakes in the two houses next to his.
Then, Feng Liang reached the last house and was stunned.
"What... what the heck is this?!"
It was a beautiful two-story wooden villa, suspended in the air, supported by several pillars below. A neat staircase led up to the first floor.
The windows had railings, the roof was peaked, and there were skylights and a chimney. The floor-to-ceiling window in the center looked absolutely gorgeous.
Compared to this villa, Feng Liang's own house was a complete eyesore!
