Chapter 1141: What Are You Looking At (First Update)
Two players had died at the hands of Teacher Guda at least seventeen or eighteen times, to the point where they started wondering if they had entered the White Mist Sect in the wrong way.
This Guda’s intelligence was way too high, wasn’t it? It almost felt like a death-mode experience…
These two had practically used every ounce of strength they had, and even back when they were pioneering Dark Souls, it hadn’t been this tough!
The Knight was manageable, but the Deprived had it much worse.
With a wooden shield that was utterly garbage and Teacher Guda targeting him specifically, it was basically unplayable…
He only now finally understood that the reason he had enjoyed playing as the Deprived so much earlier was simply because Teacher Guda hadn’t been targeting him…
In the end, the two were forced to resort to every cheap and cowardly trick they could think of, and with their concentration razor-sharp, they finally managed to take down Guda.
“Can this even be played anymore? Is this game really this hardcore now? What happened to the relaxing game they promised?”
The two players grumbled as they moved forward.
Fortunately, after leaving Guda, the two players didn’t encounter any major obstacles and made it smoothly to the Firelink Shrine.
“There’s only one Fire Keeper girl—how are we supposed to split her?”
“I’ll stick the Coiled Sword in first; you can check out the merchant’s items or something.”
The two players started wandering around the Firelink Shrine, curious to see if this entertainment-mode version had any fun elements.
But just as one player was walking up the path to check on Ludleth, he suddenly tripped and fell flat on his face.
Player: “???”
Completely baffled, how could he just trip on flat ground??
He glanced suspiciously at the Crestfallen Knight, who was sitting nearby pondering life: “Did you just stick your leg out to trip me?”
The Crestfallen Knight shot him a look that said, “Are you stupid? Why would I trip you for no reason?”
The player scratched his head, feeling like he might have wrongly accused this NPC, so he continued upward.
After looking around, it seemed like the Firelink Shrine hadn’t changed much.
“Alright, stop wandering around. Let’s light the bonfire and head to the High Wall of Lothric,” another player called out.
The player who had been chatting with Ludleth immediately started heading down, only to trip again at the same spot near the Crestfallen Knight.
“Damn it, I saw it this time! You fucking stuck your foot out!”
This player was furious. What was the world coming to? Even NPCs were starting to have malicious intentions?
The most infuriating part was that he had been tripped while going up, and this guy had played innocent, fooling him completely??
Oscar should give you a little golden statue!
Then they saw the Crestfallen Knight stand up, thrust the greatsword strapped to his back into the ground in front of him: “What, you got a problem?”
The two players were stunned. What was going on? Since when did this NPC brother have an accent when he talked?
The two stood there dumbfounded, but the Crestfallen Knight wasn’t confused. He continued, “What are you looking at?”
“Tch…” The two players started grinding their teeth. Had the Crestfallen Knight picked up a taunt skill or something?
The Knight player tugged at the Deprived’s ragged shorts and whispered, “Forget it, forget it. The Crestfallen Knight still has quests on him. Don’t stoop to his level…”
The Deprived player thought about it too. If they really fought the Crestfallen Knight, they’d probably have to delete their characters and start over. Not only would that side quest be completely ruined, but there was no guarantee they could even win.
How many newbies who had beaten Teacher Guda had been truly “discouraged” just by accidentally poking the Crestfallen Knight a few times? That was a bloody lesson…
So the two decided to swallow their pride. Even if the Crestfallen Knight provoked them endlessly, they wouldn’t react. They just used the Coiled Sword to teleport away.
The two continued pushing through a few more monsters until they were almost at the Vordt’s door.
They discussed it: if Guda was that hard, wouldn’t Vordt be even tougher to beat…
They figured it was about time to sit at the bonfire and return to the Firelink Shrine to rest, clear their burden, so they wouldn’t keep dying and lose it all—that would be a huge loss.
But as soon as they returned, they felt something was off.
“Hey? Where’s the Fire Keeper?”
“Hey? Where’s the old woman?”
“Holy shit, even the blacksmith is gone??”
The two were instantly dumbfounded. All the NPCs were missing. Where were they supposed to spend their souls?
The shady merchants disappearing was one thing, but without the Fire Keeper, how were they supposed to level up?
The vast Firelink Shrine now only had the Crestfallen Knight sitting there, pondering life.
“Tch… What do we do? Should we go ask?”
The Knight player who said this wasn’t even sure himself. After all, this taunt-happy Crestfallen Knight was way too unfriendly. What if they went to ask and he just said, “What are you looking at?” How were they supposed to respond?
The Deprived player wasn’t willing to give up. He wanted to check the path near the blacksmith, but after just a few steps, he started yelling, “Holy shit, I found the NPCs!”
The Knight player leaned in to look: “What the fuck…”
There, huddled together in a small cave under the bridge, were the Fire Keeper, the old woman, and the blacksmith—all the missing NPCs, looking just as confused.
“How did you… move house…” The two players were totally lost. Could NPCs just change their positions whenever they wanted??
Whatever, maybe the NPCs here just had strong personalities…
Just as the two were about to go to the Fire Keeper to level up, a figure dropped from above and blocked the cave entrance.
The two players: “???”
They saw the Crestfallen Knight plant his greatsword horizontally in front of him, blocking the cave entrance as tightly as a mother hen.
“What the hell is this move?”
The two players were completely baffled. What exactly did he want?
The three of them stared at each other, and then the Crestfallen Knight said matter-of-factly, “What are you looking at?”
The Deprived player was about to piss himself. Don’t you have any fucking idea what I’m looking at?
Just move aside and let me find the Fire Keeper to level up!
Otherwise, all this burden I’ve saved up—where am I supposed to spend it…
“I fucking feel like this NPC is messed up. Like he’s deliberately messing with us?”
“Heh, I think so too…”
The two players reached a consensus. This NPC was way too suspicious… No matter how advanced the AI was, could it really pull off something like this?
Moving all the other NPCs away—what kind of situation was that…
The two could already picture the scene: while they were teleporting to the High Wall of Lothric, the Crestfallen Knight got up from the steps, sneakily carried the Fire Keeper into the cave, then carried the old woman in, then the blacksmith…
That image was too beautiful, too eye-searing…
The Knight secretly gripped the longsword in his hand, and the Deprived gripped the broadsword he had just swapped to. The two exchanged a glance and shouted loudly, “What if I am looking at you?!”
Three minutes later, the two respawned at the bonfire.
“This NPC is definitely messed up! Absolutely fucking messed up!!”
