Chapter 42: Good, But Rewrite It
Ten minutes later.
A large group of people trickled into the experience store one after another. Wen Lingwei was the first to walk in, her gaze quickly locking onto Su Jinyu, who was sitting at the bar counter.
“New front desk girl?” Wen Lingwei leaned against the bar.
Su Jinyu nodded. “Mm, my name is Su Jinyu. Please take care of me.”
Wen Lingwei said, “Wen Lingwei. Don’t worry, I’ll have your back from now on. If the store manager dares to bully you, just tell me, and I’ll teach him a lesson.”
The people behind her were also sneaking glances at Su Jinyu while swiping their ID cards.
She really is a cute girl!
Not the type that’s stunning at first glance, but especially pleasant to look at. And there’s a soft, bubbly energy about her that made several guys’ hearts itch.
“Um, senior…” a guy wanted to step forward and strike up a conversation.
Wen Lingwei shot him a glance. “Stand down.”
“Yes…” The guy reluctantly backed off.
Jia Peng was speechless. “Damn, I knew I shouldn’t have told you guys!”
Wen Lingwei, Chang Xiuya, and a few other girls gathered around Su Jinyu, quickly chatting away.
The guys stood in the distance, unwilling to give up, wanting to join in but unable to find an opening.
“Damn it, how can senior be like this!”
“Right, cute girls belong to everyone!”
“Protest!”
Of course, they could only mutter these complaints privately. Going up to protest to Wen Lingwei face-to-face? Not a chance.
“Ugh, why did all of you come?”
Chen Mo came down from the second floor and saw the room full of people, feeling a bit speechless.
He had been in the studio organizing the design documents for the new version of *Plants vs. Zombies* when he heard a commotion downstairs. Coming down to check, he found over a dozen people—the experience store hadn’t seen this many visitors in a week or two.
Wen Lingwei looked at him. “Store manager, can you sell this cute girl to me?”
The corner of Chen Mo’s mouth twitched slightly. “Staff members are not for sale.”
Wen Lingwei pouted. “Tch, stingy.”
Chen Mo: “…”
Human trafficking is illegal, you know!
“If you want to get to know her, ask for her contact info and chat privately. Don’t interfere with her normal work,” Chen Mo said.
Wen Lingwei retorted, “What is her normal work?”
Chen Mo: “Uh, greeting customers at the front desk.”
Wen Lingwei asked, “Isn’t she greeting customers right now? I am a customer.”
Chen Mo: “…”
So logical, he couldn’t argue!
Su Jinyu smiled. “Everyone, let’s disperse for now. I can feel your enthusiasm, but this is still work hours.”
Jia Peng suggested, “How about we create a group for the experience store?”
“A group for the experience store?” Chang Xiuya was taken aback.
Jia Peng nodded. “Yeah, all of us regulars at the experience store can join, including the store manager and the front desk girl.”
Chen Mo said, “Friendly reminder: watch your address. She’s a senior in her fourth year, so she’s everyone’s senior here.”
Wen Lingwei said, “So what are you trying to say?”
Chen Mo: “Alright, forget I said anything.”
Clearly, everyone’s interest in Su Jinyu far exceeded their interest in Chen Mo and the games.
Soon, the experience store group was created. Jia Peng pulled everyone in and gave admin status to Chen Mo, Wen Lingwei, and Su Jinyu.
Obviously, this was a quick way to get a girl’s contact info…
Although Chen Mo felt a bit left out, he was inwardly relieved. Su Jinyu being so popular at least proved his taste was perfectly normal.
…
After confirming that these people—especially Wen Lingwei—wouldn’t kidnap his newly hired front desk girl and assistant, Chen Mo returned to the second floor.
The main framework for the *Plants vs. Zombies* documents was already in place. Chen Mo thought it over and decided to leave the online features and multiplayer battle part to Su Jinyu for design, while he worked on the developer tools.
The rules for the online features and multiplayer battles were relatively clear, and the requirements were well-defined. Chen Mo also wanted to use this opportunity to test Su Jinyu’s design skills.
At noon, the experience store temporarily closed. Chen Mo took Su Jinyu, Wen Lingwei, and the others to a nearby restaurant for a meal. Partly it was to welcome Su Jinyu, and partly to celebrate the success of *Plants vs. Zombies*.
After all, these people were among the earliest players at the experience store. They had become good friends with Chen Mo and had witnessed the success of *Plants vs. Zombies* together.
In the afternoon, Chen Mo sent the document framework to Su Jinyu.
“I’ve sent you the main framework. Refine these two documents and show me when you’re done.”
“This is the design plan for the new version of *Plants vs. Zombies*. The social part is mainly about finding ways to strengthen connections between players, so they can meet more friends who love *Plants vs. Zombies* in the community.”
“For the multiplayer battle part, I’ve written the basic rules. You just need to flesh them out.”
“There are no hard requirements for the specific design. Feel free to do your own thing, but I want to emphasize one point: add more of your own designs. Don’t stick too rigidly to my outline. Show me the first draft within three days. No problem, right?”
Su Jinyu nodded confidently. “Okay, no problem!”
Chen Mo wanted to add a few more reminders, but considering it might limit Su Jinyu’s thinking, he held back.
Designing games is often a matter of personal opinion. Everyone has their own ideas, and restricting others’ thoughts could easily turn the final product into a mess.
As for Chen Mo himself, he had to complete the developer tools for *Plants vs. Zombies*, allowing players to freely create various mods.
With half the workload gone, Chen Mo’s work hours were significantly shortened, and he felt a bit unaccustomed to it.
…
Three days later, Su Jinyu handed the first draft of the design documents to Chen Mo.
“Mm… not bad.”
Chen Mo flipped through Su Jinyu’s design documents, saying “not bad” on the surface, but his face didn’t show much happiness.
Su Jinyu was a little nervous, instinctively fidgeting with her fingers.
She had tried writing design documents before, but they were all for very simple little games. This time, she had to write the version update documents for *Plants vs. Zombies*, so she couldn’t help but feel tense.
After all, *Plants vs. Zombies* had accumulated a massive user base since topping the puzzle and casual charts. If her changes caused player dissatisfaction, Su Jinyu would be devastated.
Chen Mo quickly finished reading Su Jinyu’s design documents.
“The logic is clear, the details are thorough, and there are basically no design errors. Your fundamentals are solid,” Chen Mo said.
Su Jinyu blinked. “Th-thank you.”
“But, rewrite it.” Chen Mo smiled.
“Huh?” Su Jinyu was dumbfounded. The logic and details were fine, so why did she have to rewrite it?
What the heck!
