Chapter 937: Burial Mountain
Lin Qiye gazed at Jialan's sleeping face, standing devastated in place.
His heart ached like never before... Even when Ame-no-Murakumo pierced his body, penetrating his chest, it hadn't hurt this much.
This feeling was as if someone wielded a blade, slicing his heart that had just begun to feel warmth and affection into pieces, throwing them into the abyss of coldness and despair.
Jinian sensed the profound grief emanating from Lin Qiye and fell silent. After a moment, she opened her mouth, about to offer some words of comfort, when the door opened again.
The knight stood outside and said to Jinian:
"President... please come with me."
After hesitating for a moment, Jinian sighed, patted Lin Qiye's shoulder, and then followed the knight out of the room.
In the empty room, only Lin Qiye remained, standing alone.
The breeze brushed past the white curtains by the window, lifting Jialan's loose black hair that cascaded over the bed's edge. Her eyes, serene as still water, remained closed, like an immovable boulder in the river of time, existing since ancient times...
After a long while, Lin Qiye took a step forward and slowly sat down by the bed.
He tucked Jialan's scattered black hair back into the blanket, grasping her soft hand, as motionless as a silent sculpture.
...
Honshu.
A sedan raced along the deserted road at breakneck speed.
Yuzuri Nana sat in the backseat, turning to look out the window. Through the drifting cherry blossoms, she could see a massive peak covered in pristine white snow standing beneath the sky. Surprised, she asked:
"Mount Fuji? Why are we here?"
"This is the last location we've deduced for the Magatsu Blade." Hoshimi Shota shrugged and said, "From the nine prophecies given by Lady Wu, we've temporarily identified three correct prophecies: 'white snow covering grey earth', 'the land of cherry fire drifting', and 'the sacred place of pilgrimage'."
"These three prophecies are quite vague. I previously searched all the possible locations but couldn't find the last Magatsu Blade. It wasn't until yesterday morning, when Shota received the final prophecy, that we finally locked onto this location," Amemiya Haruki explained.
"What prophecy?" Yuzuri Nana asked curiously.
"'The peak of rage and destruction.'"
Yuzuri Nana nodded in sudden understanding. In Japan, the only mountain that could bear the name of destruction was probably this massive active volcano. Combined with white snow, cherry flames, and a pilgrimage site, she was almost certain the last Magatsu Blade was here.
"But isn't this a natural scenic area? Where would the danger come from?" Furuhara Yoshiki, sitting in the driver's seat, asked with puzzlement.
"Just because there was no danger before doesn't mean there isn't now," Amemiya Haruki continued. "In the prophecies, there was also one called 'the land guarded by corpse gods'. Initially, based on the direction of the other prophecies, we had actually classified this prophecy as false, because there is no so-called 'corpse god' gathering place in all of Japan. But only recently did we realize the true meaning of this prophecy."
"Corpse gods..." Yuzuri Nana seemed to think of something. "Corpse beasts? Are there corpse beasts gathering nearby?"
"Yes." Amemiya Haruki nodded. "That's why I said, if the prophecy is wrong, it means this operation won't encounter much resistance. But if this prophecy is correct, the danger level here will increase dramatically."
"However, even if there really are corpse beasts here, with us four Magatsu Blade masters working together, it shouldn't be too difficult, right?"
"Let's hope so."
As they spoke, the vehicle had already arrived at the foot of Mount Fuji. With the descent of corpse beasts and frequent riots plaguing society, the entire Human Enclosure had descended into chaos. The originally bustling scenic area was now utterly deserted. Some buildings at the foot of the mountain had been looted, with shattered glass and dried bloodstains scattered across the ground everywhere.
"Let's go, drive directly up." Amemiya Haruki surveyed the surroundings. "The prophecy mentioned 'white snow covering grey earth', which means the altitude of the last Magatsu Blade's location won't be low. There's no need to..."
Furuhara Yoshiki hummed in agreement, pressing down on the accelerator. The vehicle rapidly climbed the winding mountain road, jolting Yuzuri Nana's face pale.
When the vehicle reached the end of the road, Yuzuri Nana and Hoshimi Shota simultaneously rushed out of the car to the roadside and vomited. Amemiya Haruki stepped out as if nothing had happened, gazing at the white snow-capped peak above, eyes slightly narrowed.
"It's so cold here." Furuhara Yoshiki closed the car door, rubbing his hands together, breath forming white vapor.
"It's still relatively mild here now. The higher we climb toward the summit, the colder it gets."
"Are we going to the mountain summit?"
"Yes." Amemiya Haruki nodded. "If that blade is truly on this mountain, the most likely location would be at the summit."
Yuzuri Nana, after finishing vomiting, let out a long breath and slowly stood up, asking: "By the way, what's the name of this Magatsu Blade?"
"One of the Nine Magatsu Blades, 【Burial Mountain】." Amemiya Haruki said calmly. "Since this blade was forged, no one has seen it, nor has it ever appeared with an owner... It only exists in legend."
"【Burial Mountain】?" Hoshimi Shota looked up at the massive peak before him. "No wonder it's in the mountain... But how did you know it was at the summit?"
"It was just a guess. Since 【Burial Mountain】 has never appeared before the eyes of the world, it means its location must be somewhere humans can barely reach. And on all of Mount Fuji, only the giant volcanic crater at the summit meets those conditions."
"I see..."
"Little Yuzuri, we'll need your 【Thousand Cranes】 next to help us locate 【Burial Mountain】." Amemiya Haruki pointed to the snowy summit above. "Even if we reach the summit, the area is too vast. The four of us can't search it all, and our climbing equipment isn't professional. There are some particularly steep sections we can't scale."
"Leave it to me."
Yuzuri Nana placed her hand on the blade at her waist and drew 【Thousand Cranes】 halfway out.
Clang—!
With a crisp sound, the snow-white blade at her waist transformed into countless paper cranes, fluttering their wings and dispersing into the air.
After completing this, Amemiya Haruki took a deep breath, gazing at the towering mountain summit, and calmly said:
"Let's go. We're heading up the mountain."
