Chapter 575: Retreat
Severed destiny can never return.
The moment the corner of the pyramid was cut off, it turned into a wisp of smoke that completely dispersed in the air—part of it even absorbed by the yellow-and-brown sword. The pyramid itself now lacked a huge chunk, and the blazing sun above it could no longer dispel the death aura seeping from within; it was snuffed out in an instant.
The next moment, torrents of death qi poured from the pyramid’s interior and coiled around its body, several times denser than before. In the blink of an eye, the national-destiny pyramid became lifeless.
On the solar pillar, the vague silhouette’s face was indistinct, but the blazing fury in those eyes was unmistakable. He turned toward Huo Qubing and the other five; the might of a Creator God erupted without restraint, shaking the entire Sun City uncontrollably.
After slicing off a corner of the nation’s destiny, the yellow-and-brown sword flew back above Huo Qubing’s group, shielding them from that divine might.
“You… court death!” the silhouette snarled. Golden arcs of lightning crackled beneath the sunlight, and terrifying auras of law descended. Several phantom suns were summoned, circling the six men and radiating ultimate destructive force.
Apart from Huo Qubing, the other five turned grave. They were currently bodies of destiny; ordinary law attacks had no effect on them. But judging by the situation, the Creator-level Sun God was invoking some extreme law of annihilation, intent on erasing them completely.
“Mission accomplished—time to scram!” Li Kengqiang felt the temperature skyrocket and whispered urgently in Huo Qubing’s ear.
Clad in armor, broken spear in hand, Huo Qubing stood amid the rubble. He glanced up at the silhouette atop the solar pillar and said calmly, “Let’s go.”
He turned toward the black destiny gate, raised his spear, and slammed it into the ground once more!
Dong——!
An invisible ripple burst outward. At that instant, the massive sun phantoms forming around them quivered imperceptibly.
In that split second, the six figures turned into golden light and vanished through the gate. Tang Yusheng, last to leave, even shut the portal behind him.
The next moment, those suns blazed with ghastly white light!
The Egyptian gods surrounding the plaza paled; without hesitation they fled Sun City at full speed. The power contained in that strike was too terrifying—if the silhouette truly released it here, half of Sun City would be obliterated, and the weaker deities would perish outright.
At the critical instant, the silhouette on the pillar narrowed his eyes and slowly lowered his raised hand. The suns dimmed, shrinking into wisps of golden lightning that vanished in the air.
He drew a deep breath; the flames of wrath in his eyes burned hotter. Turning, he seemed to pierce the endless void, gazing toward the nation preserved intact within the mist…
“Great Xia… Sun City and you are now mortal enemies to the death!” he ground out, suppressing his fury.
…
South Sea.
Ye Fan smiled as he watched the frowning Isis, utterly unhurried.
Suddenly the four Ennead gods sensed something; their expressions changed and they turned in unison.
“The Sun God’s aura…” Geb’s eyes widened in shock. “He actually struck?”
“Sun City is under attack,” Nut concluded after a moment. With nearly all Ennead gods away, only the Sun God remained to guard the city. If he had unleashed such power, something dire must have happened.
“Impossible—who would attack Sun City now? Asgard? Olympus?” Tefnut frowned.
“Whoever it is, we can’t linger here.”
The deities exchanged thoughts and quickly agreed: unable to breach Great Xia, with the Wind God’s side defeated and Sun City assaulted, they had no reason to stay.
Isis, in her cyan jacket, turned to the silver-haired girl in tattered cloak, eyes cold. “Human, you will pay the price one day.”
With that, the four gods vanished, racing back to Sun City.
Their departure restored calm to the sea, and the Human Apexes finally relaxed.
“Cough, cough…” Master Chen’s gray robe was blood-soaked; plants and flowers grew from his chest, roots entwined with blood vessels. Had Isis’s palm advanced a fraction farther, his heart would have been torn apart.
“The Master needs healing,” Ye Fan said, frowning. He glanced at Lu Wuwei—then skipped him and looked to Jinian.
Sensing his gaze, Jinian sighed. She pulled a hand from her pocket, pointed at the pixel cloud floating overhead. The dense cloud churned and, in under a second, assembled a fiery-red Bugatti Veyron. It settled onto an elevated seawater-pixel bridge; the doors popped open.
“Lay him on the front-trunk cushion and hook up the ventilator.”
Jinian pocketed her hand, tattered black coat fluttering, and produced a set of keys as she headed for the driver’s seat.
“This supercar has cushions and a ventilator in the frunk?” Guan Zhuo asked, Master Chen on his back, eyeing the car skeptically.
He opened the front trunk—empty. Just as he was about to complain, streams of pixels rained down, transforming the cramped space into a cushioned, shock-absorbed, safety-strapped medical bay. A portable ventilator appeared in the corner, along with full vital-sign monitors.
Guan Zhuo: …
Handy power!
He settled Master Chen inside, connected the devices, then walked to the side and froze.
Only two seats?
Jinian was already in the driver’s seat, revving the engine; the low growl echoed over the waves. Ye Fan beside her calmly buckled up.
“Hold on—there’s only room for two. What about us?” Guan Zhuo pointed to himself and Lu Wuwei.
Jinian raised a brow. “Ride the e-scooter.”
“…” Guan Zhuo’s mouth twitched. “You can remodel anything—just add two seats.”
She shook her head. “Too heavy.”
“Come on, a bit heavier is fine—”
“Ignore them. Let’s go,” Ye Fan told her.
Vroooom—!
The scarlet Bugatti shot forward. Seawater pixels built new elevated road ahead as the car vanished from view.
Guan Zhuo: …
“So stingy—what’s two more seats…”
Before he finished, he froze.
The speeding Bugatti had sprouted a pair of pixel wings, lifted off the sea, and disappeared into the clouds in an instant.
