**Chapter 528: Who Is He?**

Lin Qiye, dressed in a white lab coat, had just stepped into the hallway when a figure approached him.

Nyx wore a gown woven of starlight, walking slowly. Even with black yarn and knitting needles in her arms, the noble aura that seemed to flow from her bones couldn’t be hidden. When she saw Lin Qiye, a gentle smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.

“Good morning, Mother,” Lin Qiye greeted with a smile.

“Good morning. I was looking for you, Thanatos.”

“Did something happen?” Lin Qiye was taken aback.

“Come with me. You’ll know soon.” Nyx gave a warm smile and led Lin Qiye down the corridor.

Originally planning to head underground to interrogate the [Peeping Secret-Keeper], Lin Qiye hesitated for a moment, then followed. They climbed the stairs and went straight into Nyx’s ward.

Nyx entered the room, placed the knitting needles on the table, then unfolded the ball of black yarn, shaking it under the sunlight.

Only then did Lin Qiye see the full picture of the yarn.

It was a black knitted coat.

Long ago, Nyx had stopped talking to bottles and jars, and no longer sat alone in a rocking chair in a daze. Around last year, she had this ball of black yarn in her hands…

Every day, she sat in the courtyard, knitting while basking in the sun.

Like a leisurely noblewoman.

At first, Lin Qiye thought she was just passing the time. Now, with the coat before him, he stood frozen.

“This… is for me?” Lin Qiye looked at the familiar size and raised his head to Nyx.

Nyx smiled slightly. She lifted the coat by the shoulder seams and held it against Lin Qiye’s body, carefully comparing the fit.

“Of course,” Nyx answered with a smile. “Isn’t it natural for a mother to knit clothes for her child?”

Lin Qiye stared at Nyx for a while, then lowered his head to the knitted coat in front of him, warmth rising in his heart.

The last person who had knitted clothes for him was his aunt.

He had been about seven or eight at the time. His aunt had just divorced. To support him and A Jin, she had stretched every penny. Every winter night, after they fell asleep, she sat by the window, knitting under dim light.

The clothes weren’t beautiful, but they were comfortable and gave an inexplicable sense of security.

Lin Qiye had never met his mother, didn’t know what she looked like. All his understanding of maternal love came from his aunt.

But now, he felt that familiar, intoxicating warmth again from the gently smiling woman before him.

“The size is perfect. Now I just need to bind off.” Nyx nodded in satisfaction, folded the coat, and set it aside.

“Thank you, Mother.” Lin Qiye spoke from the heart.

“No need for thanks, Thanatos. You are my child. I told you, I’m willing to do anything for you.” Nyx said gently. “Or, if you have time, you could stay for lunch?”

Lin Qiye hesitated. “Today might not work. I have an important assessment later…”

“It’s fine. Next time, then.” Nyx smiled. “Go attend to your matters. You didn’t come back just for a stroll, did you?”

Lin Qiye scratched his head sheepishly. “Then I’ll get going.”

He turned and left Ward No. 1, heading straight for the director’s office.

Nyx stood alone in the corridor, watching Lin Qiye’s departing figure, and sighed softly.

“Why didnt you just tell him to stay a little longer?”

Merlin leaned against the study door, holding a thermos cup, and spoke calmly.

Nyx shook her head. “He has his own affairs. I can’t keep him tied to me forever.”

“But your time is running out.” Merlin glanced at her, his eyes glowing with arcane light. “You’re almost unable to suppress it, aren’t you?”

Nyx, draped in her starlight gown, stood silently.

“To hold it back this long is already remarkable. As expected of one of India’s creator gods.” Merlin paused. “But by weaving part of your divine power into that coat, you’ve damaged your soul. When you reshape your divine body, you won’t return to your peak.”

“I don’t care.”

Nyx spoke slowly, a trace of sorrow flashing in her eyes.

Then her expression firmed.

“I… have only this one child left.”

She turned to Merlin. “Don’t forget our agreement.”

Merlin sighed, rubbing his increasingly sparse hair. “All this upkeep, wasted again…”

Wearing black-framed glasses, Lin Qiye passed through one dim, cramped cell after another, finally stopping before a certain cell.

Inside, a black figure stood quietly in the center. A crimson eye on its head lifted, gazing at Lin Qiye beyond the bars, a smile surfacing in its gaze.

It bent slightly, right hand on its chest, and bowed respectfully.

“Director Lin, you’ve finally come to see me.”

Hearing this address, Lin Qiye narrowed his eyes. “You knew this place existed long ago, and that after I killed you, your soul would come here… That’s why you hid in the world for twelve years, only to appear at this exact moment.

Your goal was this place… wasn’t it?”

“Indeed, no secret escapes your eyes.” The crimson-eyed black shadow did not deny it.

“How did you know about here?”

Lin Qiye stared at the figure, expression grave.

The existence of the Asylum of the Gods had always been his secret; he had never told anyone. So how did it know?

Moreover, it even knew that after death its soul would arrive here—something Lin Qiye himself had only discovered by accident shortly after gaining control of the asylum.

Most crucially, twelve years ago, Lin Qiye hadn’t even been chosen by the Seraph; the asylum hadn’t appeared in his mind. Back then he was just an ordinary elementary student.

And even then, it already knew?

“All my actions follow the guidance of a great being.” The crimson-eyed shadow spoke reverently. “Before I descended into this world, He had already arranged everything. I only needed to follow His guidance and do what I should.”

“He—who is he?”
