Chapter 499 – Nine Yin

Third Seat couldn’t understand.

He had served as a Believer for so many years, yet he had never seen such a bizarre situation.

A promised three-on-six, using realm advantage to steamroll the enemy?

Your wheel tracks are grinding right into my face!!

He couldn’t figure out who these six people were, or where they’d gotten so many mind-control tricks.

Watching two teammates turn traitor, Third Seat’s only thought now was to run…

Unfortunately, it was already too late.

The masked figures had sealed every escape route. Strange green grass sprouted from the ground, and a sense of dread spread through Third Seat’s heart.

Snap—!!

A crisp finger-snap echoed through the underground space.

The air around Third Seat was violently compressed; nitrogen and oxygen separated. A tiny spark leapt up—then a massive explosion erupted!

Amid the surging flames, a layer of ink-black coated Third Seat’s body. He shot out like lightning, the blackness eating at him, forming a thin shell that wrapped him entirely.

Behind him, in the void, nine black vortexes slowly opened…

A cold, eerie aura instantly flooded the underground altar.

Lin Qiye’s brows knit the moment he felt it; it was like being plunged into the deep sea, deeply uncomfortable.

From four of the vortexes, black buds condensed. As the ink on Third Seat darkened, the buds silently bloomed.

The remaining five vortexes showed bud-shapes too, but—perhaps because Third Seat was badly hurt—they only flickered briefly before shattering.

“【Nine Yin】?” An Qingyu narrowed his eyes at the flowers.

“You know this Forbidden Ruins?” Lin Qiye asked.

An Qingyu nodded. “Forbidden Ruins Sequence 078, 【Nine Yin】. See those nine buds behind him? He can extract a corpse’s Forbidden Ruins and store them—up to nine. The conditions are strict: the Ruins’ sequence can’t exceed his own, the corpse’s realm can’t have been higher than his, each body yields only one extraction, and a stored Ruins can be used only once.”

“Strip Ruins from corpses for one-time use?” Lin Qiye mused. “Sounds dangerous…”

“Danger depends on what he extracted,” An Qingyu said. “Luckily he’s injured—he can only activate Nine Yin four times, meaning four different abilities max.”

While they spoke, the first bud fully opened.

A man’s phantom appeared on the ink shell. He raised his hands, and a fierce hurricane erupted underground!

The gale swept every corner; the team staggered. Buoyed by the wind, Third Seat lifted into the air.

“That shadow… looks familiar,” Lin Qiye muttered.

“When using a recorded Ruins, the original owner’s image shows,” An Qingyu said. “You know him?”

A wind-eye was forming between Third Seat’s palms.

Lin Qiye thought, expression turning odd. “Yeah… and I think plenty of us do. Also—”

He glanced at Shen Qingzhu.

“The guy who can break this Ruins is right here.”

He couldn’t forget: in Cangnan City this Ruins had nearly destroyed half the town.

Forbidden Ruins Sequence 079, 【Great Wind Calamity】.

Its owner: Han Shaoyun.

Shen Qingzhu’s face went equally strange at the sight of the familiar wind-eye.

High above, the wind-eye in Third Seat’s hand kept swelling, power stacking rapidly. Beneath the ink shell he smirked.

“You forced me—huh?”

Snap—!

Before he finished, a snap rang out below.

The wind-eye vanished.

Third Seat: …

He looked down: Shen Qingzhu stared back, still holding up the hand that had snapped.

A moment later Shen Qingzhu seemed to realize his acting had slipped; struggle filled his face, eyes twitching.

“Today… I shall… fight you to the death!”

Damn!

Third Seat’s lungs nearly burst. Suppressing the urge to slap Shen Qingzhu dead, he opened the second bud.

This time a woman’s phantom appeared.

Dense lightning slithered through the air like silver serpents. Third Seat flickered, turning into an arc of electricity that shot straight at Lin Qiye.

In his hand a thick lightning whip crackled, whipping toward Lin Qiye’s face!

Lin Qiye’s pupils shrank; reverse-summon magic flared and he vanished.

Before the fight he’d hidden two night-infused Straight Blades in the darkness. Now, with White Slash and Prayer Abyss, those blades served more as support.

The instant he reappeared beside a blade, he spun and slashed White Slash across space—distance meant nothing to it; the blow struck Third Seat’s ink shell, leaving only a shallow gash.

Facing a Klein-realm expert, even a badly wounded one, breaking his defense wasn’t easy.

A deep-blue figure leapt from the ground!

Jialan gripped a golden spear, black hair streaming. She locked onto Third Seat and thrust—!

A thick golden beam pierced the air, tore a crater in the floor, and lanced skyward!

Crack—!!

Third Seat flickered in the lightning, reappearing behind Jialan. He clasped his fists like a giant hammer, lightning roaring, and smashed her back!

Boom—!!

Jialan was slammed into the ground.

Third Seat looked down at the crater, cold smile forming. “First one…”
