Chapter 443 – Monsters

Outside the main building, a teleportation array flared open and four figures stepped out.

“So we can’t use energy-type attacks anymore…” Lin Qiye eyed the lingering flames in the air, brow creased. “A golden spear with absolute offensive power, a scabbard that absorbs energy attacks, that eerie flowing black sand, the Wall of Sighs that isolates everything—counting White Slash, only five of the twelve ultra-high-risk collectibles have shown up.”

Baili Pangpang shook his head and lifted his thumb; the jade ring on it glinted. “The Jade-Scale Armor on Baili Jing is another ultra-high-risk relic, and the Prayer Abyss you snatched from the lion makes seven.”

Lin Qiye started, glancing at the kinetic sword in his hand. “That’s one of the treasures too?”

“Yep. The lion is the Baili family’s strongest mental-realm guardian; giving him a collectible was only natural.” Baili Pangpang paused, as if remembering something. “You didn’t throw White Slash back to Baili Xin just now, did you? If he gets that blade we’re in trouble…”

Lin Qiye raised an eyebrow and made a grasping motion in mid-air.

A summoning circle opened; the snow-white long blade appeared in his grip.

“I’m not stupid. Using it makes me sick, but I’m not handing a killer weapon back to Baili Xin.” His voice was flat. “I kept a back-up.”

“Good.” Baili Pangpang exhaled. “Three of his twelve pieces are in our hands, and three are too big to fit in his imitation Free Space, so right now he’s carrying six at most.”

“What are the other two?”

“One’s the Flame Demon Vase—looks like a porcelain bottle, but it pours endless black fire. The flames are alive; they can stretch a thousand li or gather into human shape, hence ‘fire demon.’”

“The other is Elegy. By serial number it’s the highest-risk relic in the family, but I don’t know what it does—only that it’s terrifying.” Baili Pangpang spilled everything he knew.

Lin Qiye nodded. “Knowing most of his tricks is good enough; we’ll improvise the rest.”

He turned to Jialan, opened his mouth as if to warn her, then quietly shut it again.

Stepping up to An Qingyu and Baili Pangpang, he said seriously, “Baili Xin himself is Infinity realm and loaded with ultra-high-risk relics—don’t underestimate him. You two stay clear of the main fight; Jialan and I will handle him head-on.”

Jialan: …

“Understood.” An Qingyu nodded.

He was smart enough to know his River-realm strength would only burden Lin Qiye; even without the warning he’d stay on the perimeter.

“I’m actually pretty strong too,” Baili Pangpang muttered.

Lin Qiye studied him. “Your Forbidden Ruins counters him. Step in when it’s useful, but don’t be reckless—got it?”

“Got it.”

Whoosh—!!

A golden pillar of light pierced the sky, lancing straight at the four from the main building. They scattered instantly; Lin Qiye vanished and re-teleported into the arena.

“Spatial spell—Void Lock.”

Standing in the arena, Lin Qiye’s magic flared. A huge white array unfolded before him, warping the space around Baili Xin!

Transparent chains sprouted from the void, locking at every angle, forming a cage—but Baili Xin’s golden spear flicked out, golden beams of annihilation melting every chain to nothing.

That spear can pierce space itself?

Lin Qiye stared at the weapon, expression grave.

A blue-gowned figure flashed past him, charging straight for the high platform!

Jialan’s skirt fluttered in the wind, revealing nothing; transparent tape on her thighs kept the fabric glued in place no matter how the gale tore at it.

Noticing Lin Qiye’s glance, she whipped around, cheeks pink, and glared.

“Seeking death.” Baili Xin snorted as Jialan closed in, spear sweeping out!

A terrifying golden beam pierced space and swallowed her—yet the blue silhouette burst from the light unscathed, speed unbroken!

“Impossible!” Baili Xin stood stunned.

In a breath she was atop the platform!

Her fair fist split the air, lightning-fast toward his face. He jerked back half a step, dodging, only to be kicked flying off the platform!

He landed meters away, barely steadying himself, eyes wide with shock.

Lin Qiye wasn’t surprised.

With the [Undying] trait, Jialan was a walking cheat; realm meant nothing to her. A Candle-level attack couldn’t scratch her, a Klein-level attack couldn’t either, and even gods couldn’t harm her.

The only difference: one punch knocked out a Candle, hundreds or thousands were needed for a Klein, and against gods fists became pointless…

Her mental realm had always been a mystery—she never revealed it, and spiritual strength meant nothing to her. From the day she gained [Undying] she’d been unkillable.

Of course, her defense rivaled gods, but the flaw was obvious.

Her offensive power was weak; control-type Forbidden Ruins could bind her easily, and defense-type ones could stop her cold.

“What kind of monsters make up your squad…” Baili Xin looked from Jialan to Lin Qiye to Baili Pangpang at the edge of the arena, cursing.
