**Chapter 220: Pursuit**

"You want to see the corpses yourself?" Wen Qimo asked, a bit surprised and hesitant. "The bodies from this case have been sent to the processing department for further autopsy. The results aren’t out yet… If you want to see them, you’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow.
But the first three victims—their bodies were handled by the police. After the autopsies, they were placed in the morgue. If you want to see them, we have the clearance. We can go right now."

Lin Qiye nodded. “Alright, I’ll go take a look at those three bodies first. Maybe I’ll find something.”

“I’ll head back to compile the data on this mysterious entity and apply for a database check. You go ahead. Just show your ID.”

Wen Qimo drove off, while Lin Qiye, whose destination wasn’t far, chose to walk.

He had just stepped out of the tavern when he paused slightly and turned to look to his right.

In the corner of the tavern, a small gray mouse was curled up. Sensing Lin Qiye’s gaze, it flickered and vanished.

“A mouse…” Lin Qiye frowned. For some reason, the scene felt familiar…

But he couldn’t recall why.

He shook his head, dismissing it, and continued walking.

The police station storing the bodies wasn’t far—about ten minutes on foot. Lin Qiye arrived at the entrance, presented his ID, and was quickly led inside by an officer who took him up in the elevator.

Of course, the ID he showed wasn’t from the Night Watch—they didn’t issue such things. Their Coat of Arms was their identity, and their profiles were locked in Great Xia’s highest-level confidentiality program. No paper credentials existed.

What he presented was a special liaison pass the Night Watch used to coordinate with local law enforcement. After all, not every officer knew of the Night Watch. If they were chasing a mysterious entity and ran into police who mistook them for the culprit and couldn’t verify their identity, things could get messy.

The morgue was on the top floor. Lin Qiye followed the officer down a long corridor.

Just then, from the opposite end, a masked orderly pushed a gurney toward them. A white body bag was sealed tightly around the corpse, not an inch exposed.

For some reason, Lin Qiye felt a vague sense of familiarity as he looked at the orderly.

Unfortunately, they were still over a hundred meters apart, so he couldn’t use his mental perception to see the man’s face. But judging by their paths, they would soon pass each other.

The orderly narrowed his eyes. Just before entering Lin Qiye’s perception range, he calmly turned right into a side corridor, as naturally as if that had been his intended route all along.

Lin Qiye frowned, puzzled.

After a moment’s hesitation, he asked the officer beside him, “Do you often move bodies out of here?”

The officer blinked. “Not really… Only homicide cases send bodies to the morgue for autopsy. Cangnan’s a small, quiet place—murders are rare, so…”

A bad feeling stirred in Lin Qiye’s gut. He quickened his pace.

They pushed open the morgue doors. Lin Qiye walked up to the on-duty forensic examiner, flashed his ID, and said grimly, “I need to see the three bodies from the severed-finger case. Where are they?”

The examiner looked dazed, even a little vacant. “They… they were just transferred out.”

Lin Qiye’s heart sank. He turned to the officer.

The officer shook his head. “Old Jia, are you confused? No order came down to transfer any bodies. Who could’ve taken them?”

“But someone did show ID, said they were moving the three bodies to a medical facility in Huaihai City for further autopsy…” The examiner’s daze began to lift, urgency creeping into his voice.

“When?” Lin Qiye demanded.

“Just now—right before you came in.”

Lin Qiye’s eyes flashed. He rushed to the window and looked down.

Below, at the rear entrance, the orderly he’d seen earlier was loading the sealed bag into a black van. The man glanced up, then climbed in and drove off…

Damn it!

That orderly was definitely suspicious!

Without a word, Lin Qiye spun around, shoved open the morgue door, and sprinted for the rooftop upstairs!

He burst through the rooftop door, oriented himself, and ran to the edge facing the van’s route. Without hesitation, he leapt!

His body drifted like a leaf across the gap—six stories above the street, cars crawling like ants below.

Ahead stood a five-story building.

Lin Qiye soared nearly a hundred meters, landing lightly on the opposite rooftop.

Under the boost of [Starry Night Dancer], he might as well have been superhuman.

He didn’t pause, sprinting onward along the road.

His figure vaulted through the neon-lit cityscape.

At the same time, he pulled out his phone and dialed.

“Qiye?” Wu Xiangnan’s voice answered.

“Vice-Captain, I’ve found a suspected corpse thief. I need a vehicle check!”

Wu Xiangnan’s tone turned sharp. “Got it. Give me the details.”

“Black van, left the station one minute ago, plate XXXXXX, heading east.” Lin Qiye had memorized the number.

“I’ll run it and call you back.” Wu Xiangnan hesitated, then added, “If it gets dangerous, don’t play hero—survive first.”

“Understood.”

Lin Qiye hung up.

He kept leaping between buildings, scanning every vehicle below, hunting for that van.

In a narrow alley.

The black van cruised with its lights off.

The orderly tugged off his mask, revealing a clean, pale teenage face. He took a pair of glasses from the passenger seat and put them on, suddenly looking every bit the scholar.

Glancing out the window, he smiled faintly.

“Lin Qiye… let’s see if you’re good enough to catch me.”
