Chapter 189: Even a Mummy Can Be Ferocious
In the silent jungle, a man wearing a baseball cap walked to the center of a barren patch of forest and looked around.
“This should be where the aura came from just now…”
He crouched down, carefully scanning the soil for Lin Qiye’s footprints like a seasoned hunter.
His name was Zhuang Qi. In fact, before becoming one of the Believers, he really had been a hunter. After accidentally awakening his Forbidden Ruins, he’d been recruited into the Believers and become a fanatical supporter of the coming age of evil gods.
Zhuang Qi pressed his body flat to the ground and sniffed lightly. The rain had washed away most tracks; an ordinary person couldn’t have followed the trail. But Zhuang Qi had never been ordinary—his tracking skills were no joke.
Soon he found the direction Lin Qiye had taken.
“Running deeper into the mountains, hm… naïve.” Zhuang Qi seemed to see through Lin Qiye’s plan. He sneered and continued the chase.
He moved swiftly; even in this pitch-black mountain forest his speed never faltered, his sharp eyes constantly sweeping the surroundings.
Suddenly he stopped dead.
His gaze fixed on a patch of earth beside a tree. A slab of bark had been stuck into the soil; the dirt looked freshly turned—inserted only moments ago—and faint writing was visible on the bark…
Curiosity tugged at Zhuang Qi. He strode over and reached to pull the bark out and see what was written—
Click!
The instant his foot stepped into the grass beside the bark, a crisp mechanical sound rose from underfoot. Zhuang Qi froze.
Boom—!!
A blinding flash erupted beneath him, a terrifying explosion flinging him into the air before he crashed down more than ten meters away…
A faint smell of burnt meat drifted on the air.
“Cough—cough cough cough…” Covered in soot, Zhuang Qi hacked and climbed to his feet. Though he’d taken the blast head-on, he didn’t seem badly hurt.
“Damn it! Who the hell buries an anti-tank mine in a remote forest?! Sick bastard!” He cursed through gritted teeth while touching his bloodied right hand.
Upon reaching the River Realm, surging mental power continuously strengthened the body to near-superhuman levels. Eating an anti-tank mine wasn’t fatal—one reason the gap between “Pool” and “River” was so vast.
Zhuang Qi endured the pain and walked to the crater. The bark had been vaporized; he’d never know what it had said. The thought felt like swallowing a fly.
Having his curiosity hooked and then left hanging infuriated him.
Far away, perched on a thick branch, Lin Qiye’s mouth twitched. He sighed.
“As expected, River Realm isn’t so easy to kill. Mumu, it’s your turn.”
He patted the little mummy beside him.
“Mumu” was the name Lin Qiye had given the small mummy. Calling it “mummy” all the time felt odd, and Lin Qiye was terrible at naming, so the choice was… crude but final.
Mumu nodded. The bandaged shoulder swelled, and a huge rocket launcher appeared on its tiny frame.
It carefully adjusted the angle, aiming at the cursing Zhuang Qi.
“Hey-shoo!”
A soft sound slipped from Mumu’s throat; the rocket launcher roared, a flaming tail streaking straight for Zhuang Qi.
The instant the rocket left the tube, Lin Qiye hoisted Mumu onto his shoulder and ran without looking back!
Zhuang Qi, still dazed from the mine, saw a blur—another rocket flying at his face!
“What the fu—”
Boom—!!
Lin Qiye ghosted through the forest, Mumu bouncing like a sandbag on his shoulder.
A smoking figure shot from the flames, cracked hunting knife reflecting firelight as it chased Lin Qiye.
Zhuang Qi was far faster. Despite the terrain, he closed the gap in seconds.
“Little rat, die!!” Half his face bloodied, eyes blazing, Zhuang Qi looked ready to flay Lin Qiye alive.
Just as he was about to grab him, Lin Qiye shouted, “Mumu!”
“Hey-shoo!”
Mumu’s bandages ballooned; its small body doubled in size, becoming a small mountain draped over Lin Qiye’s shoulder. Dense black gun barrels sprouted, all locking onto Zhuang mid-air.
“What the hell?!” Zhuang Qi gaped.
A mummy that turns into weapons? Some kind of mystery?
Before he could think, bullets poured out—submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, shotguns…
Muzzle flashes lit the gloomy jungle; the roar of a hundred weapons drowned the thunder, echoing through the mountains!
Clink-clink-clink-clink…
Zhuang Qi’s hunting knife shattered into fragments that swirled around him like leaves in a storm. Bullets sparked against the metal shards.
The fragments blocked the hail, but the kinetic energy was real; Zhuang Qi was slammed from the sky, letting Lin Qiye widen the gap.
“Decomposing his blade into controllable shards… is it a relic or his Forbidden Ruins? If it’s the Ruins, can he break down any metal?” Lin Qiye sensed everything while sprinting, mind racing.
As Zhuang Qi recalled the fragments, another burning rocket whooshed in.
Boom—!!
“Damn you, will you ever stop?!” He blocked the blast with the shard storm, roaring in fury.
