Chapter 1359: Si Xiaonan's Farewell
Lin Qiye recalled Zuo Qing's tone on the phone just now and let out a long sigh.
"Hopefully that's the case…"
"Qiye, someone outside is looking for you."
The ghost Jiang Er floated through the wall, half her body visible, as she said to Lin Qiye.
"Looking for me?"
Lin Qiye pushed open the door and looked outside. On the rooftop of the opposite building, a young girl was standing with a gray ferocious dog, looking down in this direction.
"Si Xiaonan…" Lin Qiye murmured to himself, then turned to the others. "You all continue, I need to go out for a bit."
Lin Qiye's figure dissolved into a streak of night and vanished instantly.
When he reappeared, he was already at the top of the opposite building.
The mournful autumn wind gusted from the distance, blowing Si Xiaonan's black hair. She slightly turned her head, looking at Lin Qiye walking toward her. Her eyes were still slightly red.
Lin Qiye glanced at the ferocious gray dog at her feet and couldn't help but ask, "Fenrir, the Demon Wolf? You actually turned it into a dog and keep it by your side?"
"His original form was too large. If he entered Great Xia unannounced, it would cause panic." Si Xiaonan reached out and gently stroked Fenrir's head. The wolf immediately put away its fangs and lay down乖巧 on the ground, docile as could be.
"Have you been back to Cangnan?"
"Mm." Si Xiaonan paused. "I went to the Night Watch cemetery in Cangnan and carved a tombstone for Leng Xuan. I also paid respects to the Vice Captain."
Lin Qiye's eyes slightly contracted, his expression quickly dimmed. After a long silence, he sighed deeply…
On the way back to Great Xia, he had already heard of Leng Xuan's death. He still couldn't accept that he had fallen in battle… In his mind, he could still see that cold figure from years ago, in the basement of the agency, slamming a gun on the table just to save a piece of braised pork for him.
In the deathly silence, it was Si Xiaonan who first broke the quiet.
"Old Zhao and the Captain's tombstones were carved by Hongying, the Vice Captain's tombstone was carved by you, and Leng Xuan's tombstone was carved by me…" Si Xiaonan gazed at the setting sun on the horizon and slowly said,
"Qiye, if one day, I also fall in battle, could I trouble you with my tombstone…"
"You won't die." Before Si Xiaonan could finish, Lin Qiye said firmly, "Xiaonan, you're the God of Trickery now, and you've taken the 【Eternal Life Pill】. No one in this world can kill you… You definitely won't die."
Seeing Lin Qiye's expression so serious, Si Xiaonan didn't continue her sentence. She was silent for a moment, then spoke again:
"Actually, I came today to bid you farewell."
"Farewell? Where are you going?"
"Into the Mist." Si Xiaonan said calmly, "Although Great Xia's situation has improved somewhat, the war hasn't ended yet… A God of Trickery hiding within Great Xia's borders won't be of any use. Only by entering the Mist can I have time to strategize and exert my power at critical moments."
Lin Qiye looked at Si Xiaonan's determined gaze, his expression complicated:
"Xiaonan, you've already done enough for Great Xia. You can stay and rest for a while longer…"
"Since the war has begun, there's no going back." Si Xiaonan slowly closed her eyes,
"Leng Xuan, Vice Captain Wu, the Captain… too many people have sacrificed in this war. If we can't bring it to a complete end, then their sacrifices would be meaningless.
Only ultimate victory can bring us peace and tranquility, to comfort their souls in heaven."
Lin Qiye shifted his gaze from Si Xiaonan's frail figure to the bustling city below. After a long silence, he said:
"I understand… Be careful."
"Mm."
Si Xiaonan nodded, patted Fenrir's head, and her figure dissolved into two streams of light, quickly vanishing into the horizon.
The fierce wind blew against Si Xiaonan's long hair. Her gaze pierced through the thick clouds, overlooking the densely packed human city below. Even as she flew across the city sky, no one noticed her presence. She was like a ghost, silently passing through the noisy mortal world.
As the city gradually receded, the land below became more and more desolate. The towering Wall of Divine Miracles appeared at the end of the horizon. Gray mist rolled along Great Xia's borders, the immense pressure making it hard to breathe.
ROAR—!!
The gray dog howled, its roar echoing through the forests below. Its form expanded rapidly in the storm, transforming into a mountain-sized demon wolf. It landed steadily at the border, massive amounts of sand and gravel splashing up.
Si Xiaonan lightly landed on top of Fenrir's head. She slightly turned her head and took one last look at that azure sky, her eyes slowly closing…
"Let's go."
Fenrir let out a low howl. Carrying Si Xiaonan on its back, it charged straight into the Mist.
Its four sturdy wolf legs ran through the air. Great Xia quickly receded behind Si Xiaonan. After an unknown amount of time, her brow furrowed. Her hand tugged at the fur on Fenrir's head.
Fenrir abruptly stopped in mid-air.
Those scarlet, ferocious eyes rapidly swept across the surroundings. All the fur on its body stood on end. Surging Yin-Yang death energy gathered around it, on full alert.
"Come out." Si Xiaonan stood on Fenrir's back and said calmly.
One figure after another emerged from the Mist. Without exception, all of them radiated the pressure of Divine Rank.
Leading them was a gaunt man dressed in dark golden homespun cloth. Four arms hung at his sides. A grotesque scar ran across his face. Scattered flames flickered in his eyes. His body emanated a Chief God-level aura no weaker than Si Xiaonan's.
Behind him were four Lesser Gods, all covered in wounds and scars.
Si Xiaonan recognized them. In Asgard, she had fought side by side with these Lesser Gods. That four-armed Indian Chief God was the one she had personally released from the deepest level of the Dungeon.
"I should have said that after leaving Asgard, you would all be free. There would be no further connection between us…" Si Xiaonan's gaze calmly swept across the crowd, finally landing on the Indian fire god at the front. Cold light dangerous glinted in her eyes,
"Now, Agni, what do you think you're doing?"
"Don't be nervous, God of Trickery." Agni replied. "We come to pledge allegiance to you."
"Pledge allegiance to me?" Si Xiaonan's brow furrowed. "Why?"
"Because we can't go back."
One Lesser God苦涩 smiled. "After coming out, we discovered that the Sun City has already perished. Even if we returned, there's nothing but ruins and debris…"
"The Indian Divine Temple has also completely vanished. Even I can't find its location." Agni continued. "Now that our great revenge has been avenged and we have no home to return to, after discussing it, we've decided to come find you. We wanted to see what plans you have. If nothing else, we'll have to seek refuge under Great Xia's Heavenly Court…"
"Heavenly Court?" Si Xiaonan果断 shook her head. "You are all criminals who have committed great sins. Heavenly Court will never accept you."
