Chapter 1289: Skadi
The moment Bragi saw those three figures, he froze in place.
He recognized those three silhouettes, of course.
Urd, the goddess of the past; Verdandi, the goddess of the present; and Skadi, the goddess of the future.
"Bragi?"
Verdandi was equally stunned when she saw Bragi stumbling out of the wooden cabin. Confusion flickered in her eyes.
"How could it be him?" Urd exclaimed. "Didn't he disappear a hundred years ago..."
Verdandi turned to look at Skadi beside her, who had two colorful braids in her hair. "Is it him?"
Skadi's large black eyes studied Bragi carefully for a long moment before nodding emphatically:
"Yes, it's him!"
Verdandi and Urd exchanged glances. The latter immediately understood and nodded, her eyes beginning to fixate on Bragi, peering into his past.
After a moment, she let out a soft gasp.
"What happened?" Verdandi asked.
"His past hundred years... I can't see it clearly?" Urd's eyes were full of confusion. "Just like that Lin Qiye, some of his past is obscured by mist. Even I can't see what he experienced during this century..."
Verdandi's brow furrowed slightly.
"The three fates?" Bragi saw them and sudden joy appeared in his eyes.
He rushed forward and addressed the three goddesses: "The three fates! Please, help me! I can't find my wife Iðunn! Do you know where she is?"
At this question, the faces of the two goddesses both showed expressions of astonishment.
Skadi tilted her head in confusion, as if she didn't understand what he was talking about. "Sister Iðunn, didn't she already..."
Bragi's eyes went wide. "Already what?"
"Don't you remember?" Urd gazed into Bragi's red-rimmed eyes. After a moment, she exchanged a meaningful glance with Verdandi beside her, who gave him a knowing look.
"Forget it. See for yourself..."
Urd raised her palm and lightly waved it before Bragi. The latter felt his vision blur, and he fell backward, collapsing unconscious in the barren garden.
Lin Qiye and Si Xiaonan rushed forward from behind. Upon seeing this, their expressions darkened.
"The three fates, this is..."
"He wanted to see his past, so I'm helping him." Urd stepped forward, hoisting the unconscious Bragi onto her shoulder. Her gaze swept over Lin Qiye. "You actually have a connection with him? I didn't see you in his past... What lies within that mist that shrouds your memories?"
Lin Qiye was startled for a moment, then guessed that the past goddess Urd likely couldn't see through the existence of the asylum. To her, Bragi's past hundred years was completely chaos.
"He's my patient... ahem, he's my friend." Lin Qiye spoke solemnly. "A very good friend."
Urd glanced at him and asked nothing more. Shouldering the unconscious Bragi, she walked directly toward the garden exit.
"Wait!" When Lin Qiye saw the three goddesses were about to take Bragi away like this, he stepped forward to block their path, his expression gloomy. "The three fates, what are you doing?"
Verdandi gazed at the sleeping Bragi for a long while before letting out a long sigh:
"He is the source of this Ragnarök. We cannot let him leave like this."
"The source of Ragnarök?"
Lin Qiye stood frozen in place.
He glanced suspiciously at the sleeping Bragi, recalling the man's undisciplined behavior inside the asylum. There was no way he could connect him to "Ragnarök."
After all, Bragi couldn't even fight. Though mythologically speaking, he勉强 counted as a Chief God, he probably couldn't defeat even an ordinary Lesser God... How could he possibly be the source of Ragnarök?
"Is there some misunderstanding here?" Lin Qiye frowned.
"...Perhaps there is. After all, Skadi's prophecies can only ever see a fragment of the future. Something like Ragnarök is even beyond her abilities." Verdandi paused. "But matters of such magnitude mean we cannot let any opportunity slip through our fingers.
We will take him back to the valley. If you're worried about your friend, you may come with us."
With those words, the three goddesses carried Bragi and flew swiftly back toward the valley they came from.
Lin Qiye, without a word of hesitation, gave chase.
Bragi was his patient. Though he didn't know what exactly had happened that caused him to run out of the asylum directly, Lin Qiye couldn't possibly stand by and do nothing.
The three fates were far faster than Lin Qiye. By the time he returned to the familiar valley, Urd, Verdandi, and Bragi had all vanished. Only Skadi remained, sitting idly on the cliff's edge, fiddling with the flowers and plants.
When she saw Lin Qiye and Si Xiaonan approaching from the distance, her eyes lit up. She scrambled to her feet and waved at them:
"Big brother!"
Lin Qiye walked to her side and looked around. "Where are your two sisters?"
"They carried the other brother to the sacred spring."
"Has that brother woken up?"
"Not yet."
Lin Qiye nodded. "Then could you take me there?"
"Sure." Skadi blinked at Lin Qiye. "But big brother, I'm so bored..."
Lin Qiye immediately understood her meaning. He summoned Mumu with a wave of his hand and stuffed it into Skadi's arms.
"If you're bored, play with it for a while."
Skadi hugged the bewildered Mumu, her eyes curving into happy crescents. She ran ahead of Lin Qiye and Si Xiaonan, humming an unfamiliar tune, leading them deeper into the valley.
Skadi was very small, and her walking pace didn't seem fast at all. Yet even so, Lin Qiye and Si Xiaonan had to use their full strength to barely keep up with her. This was probably even because the other party had deliberately slowed down.
Deep within the forest where the tree shadows were scattered, Skadi swayed her head, her two colorful braids dancing gently through the woods. From time to time, the babbling sounds of Mumu could be heard echoing from the distance.
"Skadi?" Lin Qiye seemed to think of something and spoke up along the way.
"What's wrong, big brother?" Skadi turned her head in confusion. "Am I walking too fast?"
"No... I wanted to ask you something."
Lin Qiye walked up beside Skadi. As they walked, he asked with a puzzled tone, "You can see a fragment of the future?"
"Yes, though which specific fragment I see, I can't control myself." Skadi tilted her head, pondering as she spoke. "After all, what I govern is actually just part of the law of time... Sister said that the reason I can see a fragment of the future is because the thoughts in my mind sometimes accelerate unconsciously, exceeding something... the speed of light?
Once it exceeds that speed, some future images are transmitted into my mind, becoming a kind of prophecy."
Lin Qiye nodded thoughtfully.
"Then can you see, what I will look like in the future?"
