Chapter 1265: Illusory Bubble
Lin Qiye had barely taken two steps when he suddenly froze, as if remembering something.
He needed to find a way to infiltrate the Asgard Dungeon and rescue Jinian—and weren't there two local deities right here who were extremely familiar with Asgard?
Bragi and Idun might know the situation inside the Dungeon?
Lin Qiye turned his head to look at Bragi, who was hurrying out with his harp, and after a moment of hesitation, decided not to call out to him.
Recently, Bragi had been insisting on temporarily leaving the asylum to visit Asgard, and Lin Qiye had been putting him off with excuses about the distance being too great. If he suddenly asked about Asgard's situation, it might expose the fact that Lin Qiye was actually in Asgard. After much deliberation, Lin Qiye decided to wait until late at night to ask Idun instead.
Just then, a petite figure in a deep teal nurse's uniform was peeking cautiously from the end of the corridor.
It was a little raccoon, carrying a large green backpack on its back, clutching a broom and dustpan in its arms. Its inky black eyes blinked as it confirmed Bragi had left, then carefully made its way toward Ward Three.
"What are you doing?"
Lin Qiye, standing in the blind spot at the door of Ward Three, asked with confusion at the sight.
The sudden voice startled the little raccoon, its fur practically standing on end, but upon seeing it was Lin Qiye, it patted its chest with its paws in relief and whispered,
"Director! I came to clean Bragi's room…"
"Cleaning his room?" Lin Qiye raised an eyebrow. "Does cleaning require being so sneaky about it?"
"I… I have another task… It's a task that Director Li assigned to me!"
"What task?"
The little raccoon stretched out its paw, pointing to the red mailbox sitting on the corner of Bragi's desk.
Lin Qiye seemed to recall something. "You came to… clear out his inventory?"
The little raccoon nodded, then nimbly hopped onto Bragi's desk. Its paws pried open the red mailbox's lid, and a flood of letters packed inside immediately spilled out, nearly burying the entire desk surface.
As it stuffed the countless letters into the large bag on its back, one by one, it explained,
"Bragi writes letters far too frequently. Director Li said that if we don't regularly collect them, this mailbox would get filled up in no time, and when new letters can't fit in, it would make him suspicious.
So every few days, I come to organize the mailbox and clear out all the letters inside.
This… this isn't theft, okay?!"
The little raccoon pouted, muttering quietly. After stuffing the vast majority of letters into the bag, it took the latest letter Bragi had just written and placed it back inside the mailbox, carefully closing the lid without leaving a single trace.
It shouldered the bulging backpack—nearly bigger than itself—and hopped down from the table.
Lin Qiye watched this scene without intervening, even feeling a sense of relief.
Li Yifei really did manage the asylum well. He'd even anticipated something like Bragi's mailbox getting filled up and assigned someone to clean it regularly. Even though there were already several hundred nurses working here, Lin Qiye could still act as a hands-off director, largely thanks to Li Yifei's management.
"So what happens to all these letters?" Lin Qiye followed behind the little raccoon, curious.
"They're all collected, of course! Director Li said these are the embodiment of Bragi's love, so they need to be properly stored. Not a single one can be lost." The little raccoon stated matter-of-factly.
It led Lin Qiye through several corridors before arriving at a small storage room. With a small jump, it reached up and opened the door.
Lin Qiye followed behind, his gaze sweeping across the warehouse, and he was slightly moved.
The shelves were practically stuffed with Bragi's letters—some were letters he "sent" to Idun, others were Idun's replies. Each one was organized chronologically. Lin Qiye estimated there had to be over a thousand letters in this storage room.
An image flashed through Lin Qiye's mind: Bragi bent over his desk, carefully and earnestly writing each letter, stroke by stroke. He let out a long sigh.
"Director, why are you sighing?" The little raccoon scratched its head in confusion. "Is it because I didn't sort them well enough?"
"…No, you did a great job."
Lin Qiye patted the little raccoon's head encouragingly, then walked out of the storage room. The afternoon sun fell upon him. After a moment of silence, he walked straight toward Li Yifei, who was lounging in a recliner by the courtyard, soaking up the sun.
He slapped Li Yifei's shoulder.
"Tch, who dares disturb my nap—oh? Qī Yè?" The fan covering Li Yifei's face slipped off, his expression shifting from annoyance to delight upon seeing Lin Qiye in his white coat standing before him.
Lin Qiye smiled. "Come on, have a drink with me."
…
To see Idun, he first had to wait until Bragi fell asleep.
Lin Qiye and Li Yifei sat on small stools in the courtyard, clinking glasses. The sunlight on the horizon faded, and night was approaching.
Lin Qiye glanced at Bragi's ward on the second floor, where the lights were still on, and gently sipped the fruit wine in his cup.
"So, you're worried that once Bragi learns the truth, his emotions will spiral out of control?" Li Yifei mused.
"It's not just about emotions spiraling out of control. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. All his fantasies about the future are like a bubble gradually inflating—it could burst at any moment…
And his psychological resilience was never strong to begin with. I'm afraid that once he learns the truth, not only will his treatment progress plummet, he might also develop depression or other mental illnesses. We've seen cases like that." Lin Qiye paused.
"So I've been wondering… is there a way to have the best of both worlds?"
"What kind of way?"
"For example, separating them into two different bodies?"
"Their hearts are connected. How could you separate them?"
"I asked Merlin about this possibility back then too. He said even magic couldn't accomplish that, but he didn't rule out the possibility that someone might be able to do it. If it really doesn't work, I'll have to try making a wish with the Holy Grail." Lin Qiye glanced at Ward Three, where the lights had gone out, his gaze complicated.
"I was the one who gave him this beautiful illusion… I can't just stand by and watch him drown in it."
Li Yifei nodded. "So, do you have any leads now?"
"Not yet. My main body is currently in Asgard, and I'm stretched thin. But perhaps Asgard holds the key to completely curing him. I still need time to look… Fortunately, his treatment progress hasn't reached 95% yet, so he can't see the outside world. Otherwise, things would be much more complicated."
Lin Qiye drained the last of his fruit wine. "I'm going to find Idun now. I'll drink with you again when I have time."
"Sure thing!" Li Yifei grinned.
Lin Qiye took a deep breath and walked straight toward Ward Three, now shrouded in darkness.
