Chapter 1197: This Oracle Has Some Real Skills

In the empty room, Lin Qiye's brow furrowed deeper and deeper.

If gods cannot enter, then what about 03 and 04?

If they can't enter either, then...

Countless thoughts flashed through Lin Qiye's mind in an instant, a subtle thread of clues connecting together, and his heart immediately sank.

"Damn it..." Lin Qiye murmured, watching the departing figure of 22.

He immediately rose from his seat and pushed through the door.

The remaining traders waiting at the door looked at Lin Qiye in confusion as he suddenly walked out.

"All subsequent trades are cancelled." Lin Qiye's voice was grim. "My trades for today end here. If you want to continue, find other agents to deal with."

The many agents who had been queuing for a long time all had gloomy expressions seeing him cancel the trades so abruptly. But since this was a gathering, and Lin Qiye held the information advantage, he did have the right to refuse trades. Even with resentment in their hearts, they could only disperse and seek out other agents who had just traded with Lin Qiye.

Number 27 silently watched Lin Qiye's departing figure, his fists gradually clenching.

Lin Qiye crossed the corridor on the second floor, his gaze briefly sweeping over the room where 03 had traded with 22, then quickly descended the stairs.

"Finished the trade that quickly?" He Lin looked surprised seeing Lin Qiye come downstairs.

"No, but we don't have time." Lin Qiye scanned the surroundings, his expression grave. "We should leave here as soon as possible!"

"Leave now? What happened?"

Lin Qiye glanced back at the second floor. "I'm not certain yet, but I feel... 03 and 04's purpose can't be this simple."

Lin Qiye didn't have time to explain more to He Lin. He walked straight to corner where 01 was sitting.

"I want to withdraw early."

01 raised his head and looked at Lin Qiye. "Why?"

"Someone has set their sights on my oracle identity and wants to harm me." Lin Qiye stared at the shadow beneath the hood. "Isn't your primary duty to ensure the safety of participating agents? Now that my safety is threatened, I want to leave early."

01 spoke as a reminder: "Number 33, I believe I mentioned what consequences there would be for spreading false information... If you're feeling guilty about spreading false intelligence and trying to escape under the pretense of safety concerns, you will be hunted down to the ends of the earth."

"I'm not lying. My safety is genuinely under threat." Lin Qiye paused. "I swear on the name of the God of Magic."

01 was silent for a moment, glanced at the busy hall, then nodded slightly:

"You may go."

Lin Qiye didn't hesitate. He immediately left Notre-Dame through the back door with He Lin.

"What's actually going on?" Once they were back in the mist, He Lin couldn't help but ask.

"That 03 and 04 are very off." Lin Qiye's voice was grim. "Tell me, as gods, why would they participate in an agent gathering?"

"Because there's information here they want to know, and they don't have their own agents?" He Lin thought for a moment, guessing.

"That's right." Lin Qiye nodded. "Their purpose is clues about the King's Treasury. I think they must have learned through some channel that an agent who knows the whereabouts of the King's Treasury would be participating in this gathering, but time was tight. Finding new agents was impossible, so they could only disguise themselves as agents and sneak in.

They most likely come from Zeus's faction of the Olympian Gods."

"Zeus's faction... But what does that have to do with us? Why are we running?"

"Gods cannot enter the King's Treasury that Gilgamesh left behind."

Hearing this, He Lin was stunned for a moment, seemingly not understanding what Lin Qiye meant. But quickly, he sensed something.

"Gods can't enter, you're saying..."

"The gods of Zeus's faction want the King's Treasury, but they themselves can't enter... So the best solution would be to find someone below the divine realm but still possessing considerable strength to retrieve it for them." Lin Qiye turned back, glancing at Notre-Dame shrouded in the mist.

"In that case, god agents are the perfect choice."

"Send god agents in to retrieve it? Coercion or temptation?"

"That's hard to say, but I think it's most likely the former.

They don't have their own cultivated agents. If they were merely using benefits to lure other agents to retrieve the King's Treasury for them, not only would it cost enormous resources, but there'd also be the risk of information leakage.

You should know better than me what kind of people these god agents surviving in the mist are—self-serving to the core. If they learned about the existence of such a thing as the King's Treasury, the first thing they'd do is secretly pass the information to the god behind them in exchange for sufficient benefits, double-dipping."

Lin Qiye paused.

"If it's coercion, as gods, they just need to suppress a group of agents, put some restraints on them, and force them to work for them. Not only does it cost nothing, but it also gives them firm control over everyone."

"Aren't they afraid of revenge from the gods behind those agents?"

"You said it yourself—most agent-god relationships are purely transactional. Would you start a conflict with a peer-level god just because your tool was forcibly borrowed? As long as the agent isn't killed or permanently disabled, the matter won't escalate.

Besides, as long as they can obtain the King's Treasury, making a few enemies is a small price."

"The King's Treasury that Gilgamesh left behind definitely isn't something that can be simply taken. There must be safeguards within. So even if they need agent pawns to go in and retrieve it, they need agents with sufficiently strong abilities...

And right now, more than half of all god agents in the mist are gathered here. This gathering is their perfect opportunity to select pawns!"

The more He Lin thought about it, the more convinced he became by Lin Qiye's reasoning.

He looked back at Notre-Dame hidden in the mist—mysterious, yet now seeming to carry an added sense of sinister terror.

...

At the agent gathering.

03 walked out of room 22. Since 22 needed to hand-draw a map on the spot, it had delayed him quite a bit.

He walked straight to the room where Lin Qiye had originally been, only to find it empty.

Beneath the hood, a trace of surprise flickered in his eyes.

At the same moment, 04 silently walked up behind him.

"Where's the oracle of 33?" 03 asked in a low voice.

"He left early." 04 replied.

"Left early? Did he notice something?"

"Shouldn't have. These humans couldn't possibly see through our disguise... Unless, he foresaw something in advance." 04 paused.

"Looks like... this oracle has some real skills after all..."
