Chapter 1172
Chapter 1173: 「Dominion Emperor」
Linjiang City. Night Watch outpost.
Baili Pangpang, Cao Yuan, and the others peered through the one-way glass at the boy sitting silently in the interrogation room, their expressions shocked beyond measure:
"It's him? Seven Nights, you didn't make a mistake, did you?"
"No mistake. I've already fought him before." Lin Qiye shook his head. "His ability is extremely troublesome. Not only can he control 'Mysteries,' but also weather, metals, and even the human body."
"An ability like that? I've never heard of anything like it."
"Neither have I… But on the way back, I've already reported everything to headquarters. There should be results soon."
Lin Qiye checked the time and turned to Baili Pangpang:
"By the way, go to the entrance later to pick up Director Liu."
"Director Liu?" Baili Pangpang paused, as if having thought of something, and lowered his voice. "Seven Nights, you didn't tell Director Liu about this kid's crimes, did you?"
"…No."
Lin Qiye glanced at Wu Quan, who sat with head bowed in the interrogation room. "It's the kid who said he wanted to see Director Liu one last time before he goes. Take him out of the interrogation room and find a teahouse. Let the two of them chat for a while."
"Got it."
Just as Baili Pangpang went to release Wu Quan, the phone rang. Lin Qiye answered quickly:
"Commander Zuo."
"Mm." Zuo Qing's voice on the other end of the line was somewhat solemn. "Lin Qiye, I've gone through all the materials you sent me… This time, we've stumbled upon quite an extraordinary child."
Lin Qiye was stunned. "What?"
"Based on your description, there is only one thing that corresponds to this child's abilities… The Fourth God's Ruins, 【Dominion Emperor】."
"God's Ruins?" Lin Qiye's eyes narrowed slightly. "No wonder he was so troublesome…"
"This God's Ruins has quite the background." Zuo Qing said seriously. "Do you know, historically, who was the last person to possess this ability?"
"Who?"
"The founder of the Great Xia Night Watch's predecessor, the Bureau of Evil Suppression. The first Human Apex, the Marquis of Triumph—Huo Qubing."
Lin Qiye's jaw dropped in shock.
"【Dominion Emperor】 possesses the ability to dominate all tangible matter, including but not limited to the human body, animals, fire, water flow… 【Dominion Emperor's】 emotions can directly affect weather patterns. When angry, there would be thunder and lightning; when sad, heavy rain would fall; when at ease, the weather would be calm and sunny, and so on.
Moreover, its control over 'Mysteries' far exceeds its control over other matter. In other words, 【Dominion Emperor】 has a natural inhibitory effect on all 'Mysteries.'
Theoretically, as long as the wielder's spiritual power is strong enough, it can achieve 'infinite domination' over 'Mysteries.'
Back then, General Huo Qubing relied on this ability to single-handedly establish the Bureau of Evil Suppression and imprisoned over a thousand 'Mysteries.' It is said that his grand ambition at the time was to dominate all 'Mysteries' within the territory of Great Xia, so that peace would reign forever and no evil would remain."
"Dominate all 'Mysteries' in Great Xia? That powerful?" Lin Qiye exclaimed in shock.
If that could truly be achieved, it would mean Great Xia would never again be troubled by 'Mysteries.' For humanity, this was immensely important.
Based on this alone, the importance of 【Dominion Emperor】 to humanity actually surpassed the Third God's Ruins 【Immortality】 and the Second God's Ruins 【Destiny Buddha】.
"Of course, what I'm describing is only the ideal situation. But the reality is, even the first Human Apex of that era couldn't achieve this, which means 【Dominion Emperor】 also has its limits… at least for humans." Zuo Qing paused for a moment before continuing.
"Moreover, this God's Ruins has quite a few drawbacks… The most significant one being an extremely low lifespan ceiling."
Lin Qiye was confused. "What do you mean? Short lifespan?"
"You could put it that way. Do you know how old the Marquis of Triumph was when he passed away?" Without waiting for Lin Qiye's answer, Zuo Qing continued: "Twenty-four years old… and that was after he became the first Human Apex and touched the threshold of godhood.
The cause of the Marquis of Triumph's death has always been one of the greatest mysteries in history. Only a very small number of people know that he passed away because the God's Ruins' own drawback caused his lifespan to reach its limit, leaving him with no choice.
Through our analysis, their lifespans are like a compressed version of ordinary human lifespans. One year for them can be roughly equivalent to four years for ordinary people.
Without reaching the Human Apex level, the wielder of the Fourth God's Ruins can only live to eighteen or twenty years old.
But precisely because of this, the Fourth God's Ruins' wielders experience extremely rapid power progression! It is said that the Marquis of Triumph only took three years to go from awakening 【Dominion Emperor】 to becoming a Human Apex."
Lin Qiye turned his head and glanced at Wu Quan, who was leaving the interrogation room. A look of understanding appeared in his eyes.
No wonder Wu Quan, at only fourteen or fifteen years old, already possessed Klein-level spiritual power and could even fight him to a draw… But it also meant this child only had three or four more years to live?
"The second drawback of 【Dominion Emperor】 is that no matter how much spiritual strength grows, the wielder's own physical constitution will never improve. Even if they reach the Human Apex level, they would still be an ordinary person who could be killed by a single bullet." Zuo Qing said slowly.
"They can dominate all things in the world, but they themselves are extremely fragile. Unless, like the Marquis of Triumph of old, they tempered their bodies to the human limit through training and combat, this would always be a fatal flaw."
"The final drawback is the range of domination."
"【Dominion Emperor】 can only dominate objects within three kilometers of itself. Even at the Human Apex level, it can only dominate a range of no more than five kilometers. In other words, during battle, the 【Dominion Emperor】, already physically fragile, must remain near the center of combat at all times, making it easy to be decapitated."
After hearing these three major drawbacks, Lin Qiye let out a long sigh.
Looking at it this way, while 【Dominion Emperor's】 abilities were indeed变态 (monstrous/abnormal), its flaws were too numerous. No wonder it could only rank as the Fourth God's Ruins.
However, judging from the "infinite domination" aspect alone, it was undoubtedly the most important God's Ruins for humanity.
"So what should be done with this child…?" Lin Qiye asked.
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line:
"Do what should be done. Although he possesses 【Dominion Emperor】, his personality is far too extreme, and he wantonly slaughtered civilians… If the issue of his mindset cannot be resolved, he may not become a help to humanity, but rather a bane.
Take him to the Purification Chamber and let Li Yangguang discipline him."
Li Yangguang?
Hearing this name, Lin Qiye paused first, then the image of Doctor Li from the Sunshine Psychiatric Hospital came to mind.
…
…
At the end of this chapter, San Jiu wishes to make an apology. Starting today, the daily three chapters will be adjusted to two chapters~
I know this will disappoint many readers, but after careful consideration, I ultimately made this choice… If possible, I really wanted to maintain three chapters daily.
Perhaps someone will say that San Jiu has gotten a bit of fame and has become arrogant; some might say I'm about to start slacking off and fooling readers. Here I want to say that this is completely baseless.
Since the book opened on July 22, 2021, a full year has passed. During this time, San Jiu only took one day off to rest and skip updates when I was sent to the hospital for a broken leg, and three days where I only posted one chapter daily due to urgent family matters. Other than that, whether stuck on a plot point, on a business trip, or however busy I was, I ensured at least two chapters daily.
Authors are human too, and encounter various things in life. Maintaining such an update frequency for a whole year under these circumstances requires tremendous willpower and passion.
Besides, San Jiu can swear on my conscience that up to now, there hasn't been a single chapter of inferior quality in this book, let alone any "fooling around." Just as my signature says, what I want to do is to write every story with care.
Perhaps someone will say my chapters are short… But in truth, my word count is the same as the vast majority of authors—6,000 characters daily, never less. The reason some feel it's short is only because I like to flesh out details and create three-dimensional portrayals. But this is for better scene immersion and engagement, and it's San Jiu's writing style. I truly cannot change it.
Readers who have watched me type live know that San Jiu's typing speed is extremely slow… 6,000 characters takes a long time. So nearly half of my day is spent typing, and another large portion is spent staring at the computer, thinking.
This book is not the kind of formulaic work that floods the market. This means every plot requires a tremendous amount of mental effort to conceive. Additionally, San Jiu has been trying to make all plots interlock like cogwheels—to ensure the story itself develops while secretly laying out a grand scheme that can make people's eyes light up. It's truly exhausting.
By now, this book has entered its middle-to-late stage. Having written over two million words consecutively, for a long novel, the later it gets, the harder it becomes to write, because inspiration depletes and one's condition also declines.
Perhaps someone will say the later plots aren't as exciting as the first arc, aren't as eye-opening. But the first arc's layout and conception were prepared for a whole month before I started writing the book. That requires time and the precipitation of inspiration.
The daily 6,000-character update, along with the continuous story progression rhythm, leaves little room to detach and conceive a more ingenious story. So in the end, San Jiu decided to sacrifice part of the daily update word count, to think and to capture inspiration.
"God Slayer" is San Jiu's lifeblood. Its reputation so far is decent. San Jiu is a perfectionist Virgo and will absolutely not let it end poorly. The further along we go, the more I must make this story impactful, leave a deep impression, and give it a perfect ending.
I have expressed my sincerity, and explained the reasons. The十几章 I owe everyone will be added and repaid after San Jiu gets through this transition period.
Hope for your understanding~
