Chapter 76 – Moon Ghost

Crack-crack-crack—!!
The instant Molly’s palm touched the warehouse gate, the metal door vibrated at a frequency the eye couldn’t catch, a shrill hum bursting from within!
The next second, several terrifying gouges appeared across the surface. Molly pulled her hand back, whirled, and slammed a flying kick into the door. The ruined gate shattered into pieces and crashed down!

Amid the dust, Molly dusted off her hands and walked inside expressionlessly.

“Destructive.” Lin Qiye’s gaze swept over the metal shards on the floor; he rubbed his chin and murmured.

Outside, Baili Pangpang stared at Molly’s back and swallowed.

“What’s wrong?” Lin Qiye asked, noticing his odd look.

“Qiye…” Baili Pangpang leaned in and whispered, “Don’t you think… she’s really cool?”

“…”
Lin Qiye rolled his eyes and left him hanging, heading straight to the weapons rack and pulling out a standard-issue straight blade.

Before arriving at camp, Chen Muye had warned that weapons weren’t allowed inside except when necessary, so Zhao Kongcheng’s blade had been left at Hongying’s place. Fortunately, the Night Watch’s standard gear was stocked in abundance.

Blade in hand, Lin Qiye kept part of his mental perception on Molly.

To his surprise, she ignored the racks of spears, sabers, and halberds, walked to the deepest corner, pulled out an enormous tachi, slung it across her back, and marched for the exit.

“Tachi’s a rare choice,” Lin Qiye remarked as she passed.

Molly paused, glanced sideways. “I like it—problem?”

Lin Qiye turned, met her eyes, and offered his right hand.
“I’m Lin Qiye.”

“Oh.” She answered flatly, showing no intention of shaking.

Lin Qiye’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Ultra-high-risk Forbidden Ruins?”

“Why should I tell you?”

“Don’t you want to win?”

“And telling you achieves that? Who do you think you are?”

“Among the five Mask Squad members, at least three have ultra-high-risk Forbidden Ruins and coordinate seamlessly. If our side’s ultra-high-risk users don’t band together, we don’t stand a chance,” Lin Qiye said calmly.

Molly frowned, surprised. “You’re ultra-high-risk too?”

“No.” Lin Qiye shook his head. Just as she turned to leave, he added, “I’m the Seraph’s proxy.”

Molly stopped dead.

She spun around, shock in her eyes. “A god’s agent?”

“That’s right.”

She studied him, hesitated, then spoke slowly:
“Forbidden Ruins Sequence 076, ‘Myriad Vibrations.’ Within its range, I can control the vibration frequency of anything I touch, directly or indirectly.”

Lin Qiye raised an eyebrow, recalling how easily she’d ruined the gate, and nodded. “Powerful… no wonder you favor a tachi.”

While they talked, Baili Pangpang hurried over, cleared his throat, and solemnly extended his hand.
“Hello, Miss Molly. I’m Baili Tuming, born into an ordinary family in Guangshen City…”

Molly’s brows snapped together; she shot him a disgusted look, snorted, and strode out.

“I hate rich boys like you most—stay away from me!”

Baili froze. “No, I’m not a rich kid! I really am from a common family—”

“Where’s your weapon?” Lin Qiye asked, seeing his empty hands.

“I can’t use any, so I didn’t take one.

“…”
Lin Qiye patted his shoulder. “Suggestion: find a quiet corner and hide till the fight’s over—spare yourself a beating.”

Baili shook his head resolutely. “No! I won’t be a turtle in its shell! I’ll fight!”

“…” Lin Qiye walked out. “Suit yourself—enjoy.”

More recruits were arriving for gear. Outside, they found Molly leaning against the wall, tachi on her back, apparently waiting.

“Waiting for someone?” Lin Qiye asked.

“For you,” she answered evenly. “If I’m right, there’s another ultra-high-risk user.”

“Who?”

“The guy who first spoke out against the chief instructor earlier—remember him?”

“You mean the one with the backwards cap, open uniform, chewing gum, looking all cocky?” Baili Pangpang recalled.

“I remember,” Lin Qiye nodded.

“If we can get him—”

Clang—!!

Before she finished, Lin Qiye’s pupils contracted; he whipped his straight blade backward toward Molly’s back in a lightning draw!

Clang!

A crisp clash rang out. Molly reacted instantly, rolled forward, sprang up, right hand already on her tachi’s hilt.

A short sword flickered in empty air; Lin Qiye’s straight blade locked against its edge.

He stared at the void ahead, expression grave.

From nothingness, a man wearing a crescent-moon mask appeared, short sword reversed in his grip. He regarded Lin Qiye in surprise. “You can see me?”

“Lucky me—I can,” Lin Qiye replied coolly.

Moon Ghost studied his eyes, then realization dawned.
“I get it—you’re the Seraph’s proxy. Your aura feels like the captain’s…”

Behind Lin Qiye, Molly’s face flushed with anger. Had he not blocked the sneak attack, she’d be out already. Fury flared; she yanked her tachi free, the blade vibrating at a terrifying frequency.

Lin Qiye knocked Moon Ghost’s short sword aside and leapt back without hesitation.

The next instant, Molly slashed!

Swoosh—!!

The air ahead of the tachi quivered violently; a terrifying vibrating blade shot forward through the air, ripping the ground and slamming into the warehouse wall, carving a savage gouge!

Dust billowed. Amid the cracks stood Moon Ghost—his right arm gone.

“Truly a dangerous Forbidden Ruins…” he murmured. Shimmering moonlight condensed into a new arm.
