# 50
**Chapter 50: Not Quite Saved**
Si Xiaonan patted her chest and stepped behind Hongying, her face still pale with fright.
“They look terrifying.”
“They really do,” Hongying nodded. “But they don’t seem all that strong.”
With that, she stomped hard on the ground and shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow. The tip of her spear ignited with a rose-colored flame, trailing a blazing arc through the air!
“Sssss—!”
The monsters in the hallway opened their grotesque, fleshy heads wide, revealing blood-drenched maws as they tried to swallow her whole!
Hongying narrowed her eyes slightly, not slowing in the slightest—she charged straight into the gaping mouth!
Awooo!
At the moment the monster’s jaws were about to close around her, a burst of crimson spear-light exploded from the tip of her weapon. The rose-colored flames lit up the dark hallway for an instant!
The next moment, a massive fireball erupted!
The spear effortlessly cleaved through the monster’s body, and the flickering flames devoured the torn flesh in the blink of an eye.
Hongying came to a stop, casually resting her spear on her shoulder as the flames continued to dance at its tip.
She chuckled.
Looking at the remaining monsters, stunned into silence, she wagged a finger in挑衅.
“You lot combined wouldn’t even be enough for a warm-up.”
Si Xiaonan clapped excitedly from the side. “Hongying, you’re so cool!”
The monsters let out a collective snarl, eyes locked on Hongying. Then, more and more figures began appearing at both ends of the hallway…
Some wore school uniforms, others casual clothes. Some carried washbasins, others held textbooks…
Their long black hair hung down as they stared at Hongying with unblinking eyes.
They just stood there. Watching her.
Drip… drip…
The sound of water dripping came from a nearby restroom.
A faint rustling echoed from the ceiling above.
Outside the window, the distant chatter of students drifted in.
The hallway was deathly silent.
More and more girls lined both sides, standing in perfect formation like a silent army.
It was a scene that made one’s scalp crawl.
Si Xiaonan quietly moved behind Hongying and pulled a Straight Blade from her black case, gripping it tightly.
“…Sixteen, seventeen, eighteen.” Hongying counted under her breath.
“Eighteen of them. That’s a bit troublesome…
But only a bit.”
…
“Ruoruo, you said last class you wanted some AD calcium milk. I picked up a bottle when I went to the store—here.”
In the classroom, Liu Yuan held out a bottle of AD calcium milk to Han Ruoruo, who sat in front of him, his cheeks slightly flushed.
Han Ruoruo turned around, gave him a sweet smile, and took the milk.
“Thank you, Liu Yuan. You’re so sweet to me.”
Seeing her smile, Liu Yuan felt like he was floating. He patted his chest and declared,
“Don’t worry, Ruoruo. From now on, just tell me what you want to drink and I’ll buy it for you!”
“Okay.” Han Ruoruo nodded, hesitated, then leaned in close to his ear and whispered in a soft, sticky voice,
“Liu Yuan… um… after school, can you wait for me in the parking garage?”
“Huh?!” Liu Yuan’s heart pounded wildly, as if he’d just realized something.
“I… I have something I want to tell you…”
Han Ruoruo’s face turned red. She gave him a coy glance—everything left unsaid was understood.
Liu Yuan nodded excitedly!
“Alright! I’ll definitely wait for you tonight after school!”
Just then, Han Ruoruo froze, as if sensing something, and suddenly stood up.
“What’s wrong, Ruoruo? Where are you going?” Liu Yuan asked, puzzled.
“I just remembered I forgot something. I need to go back to the dorm,” Han Ruoruo replied coldly, all sweetness gone from her voice. She turned to leave.
At that moment, a boy walked up to her desk and blocked her path.
“Lin Qiye?” Liu Yuan frowned when he saw who it was.
A flicker of irritation flashed in Han Ruoruo’s eyes, but it vanished quickly, replaced by a pure and innocent smile.
“Lin Qiye, is something wrong?”
Lin Qiye ignored Liu Yuan entirely. After a brief pause, he spoke in a low voice,
“Actually… I’ve liked you for a long time.”
Han Ruoruo blinked.
Liu Yuan nearly spat blood. He jumped to his feet and glared at Lin Qiye.
“Lin Qiye, don’t do this. Han Ruoruo already has someone she likes. You can’t just—mmph!”
Before he could finish, Lin Qiye shoved him back into his seat and clamped a hand over his mouth.
Han Ruoruo hesitated for a moment, then her face flushed red.
“Um… so…?”
“Be my girlfriend,” Lin Qiye said naturally.
Whoooooa!!!
Lin Qiye’s voice wasn’t loud, but the impact was massive. The entire class heard it and erupted in cheers!
“Wow! I didn’t expect Lin Qiye to like someone like Han Ruoruo!”
“Who knew?!”
“But now that I look… she is pretty cute.”
“Still, Lin Qiye’s way hotter.”
“So domineering! I love it!”
“Poor Liu Yuan—look at his face! Priceless!”
“I ship it! Get together! Get together!”
“Get together!”
“…”
Amid the chaos, Han Ruoruo kept her head down, staring at her toes, her ears burning red.
After a moment, she answered in a voice as soft as a mosquito:
“Then… okay.”
Liu Yuan stared at her in disbelief, as if struck by lightning.
His world… had collapsed.
Lin Qiye nodded expressionlessly. “Then I’ll see you in the garage tonight.”
“Okay…”
Lin Qiye released Liu Yuan, who sat frozen like a statue, staring blankly at the blushing Han Ruoruo.
Lin Qiye glanced at him and walked away.
Li Yifei, who had watched the whole thing unfold, approached Lin Qiye and whispered,
“Qiye, why’d you save him? He pushed you before…”
“I didn’t want to save him. If it were the old me, I wouldn’t have gotten involved,” Lin Qiye said, patting his shoulder. “But I’m on the job now…
I didn’t want to save him, but from the Night Watch’s perspective, saving people is part of the job.
So I saved him—but not completely.”
Li Yifei blinked. “What does that mean?”
Lin Qiye glanced back at the dazed Liu Yuan and said meaningfully,
“Do you think someone like him will give up chasing Han Ruoruo?”
Li Yifei’s eyes widened. “You mean… he still won’t give up?”
“I fulfilled my duty as a Night Watch member by saving him once,” Lin Qiye said calmly. “But if he insists on throwing his life away, that’s not my problem…
At that point, I might even clap from the sidelines.”
