Chapter 40 – Mortal Divine Realm
Afternoon.
Wen Qimo was slouched on the edge of the Forbidden Ruins training ground, checking the time.
“Where the hell is this kid…?”
The words had barely left his mouth when the door creaked open and a figure shuffled in like a zombie.
“Holy—!” Wen Qimo yelped. “Qiye, what happened to you…?”
Lin Qiye’s face was one big bruise. He waved a hand, tried to speak, then staggered and almost face-planted.
Wen Qimo darted forward to steady him. “Sparring with the captain?”
“Yeah.”
“Huh… not bad, talent-wise.”
Lin Qiye stared. “You call this ‘not bad’?”
“My first session with the captain, I was flat on the training ground for twenty-four hours before I could crawl away,” Wen Qimo sighed. “These days the only one who can last in close-quarters with him is Hongying.”
“I heard Zhao Kongcheng’s a melee master? Even he can’t?”
Wen Qimo hesitated. “He and the captain don’t ‘last’—they’re evenly matched. Provided neither uses their Forbidden Ruins, of course.”
“…Fine.”
Clenching his teeth against the ache, Lin Qiye forced himself upright. Pull up his shirt and you’d see a patchwork of purple and green.
Chen Muye’s blade—too fast, too heavy, too ruthless.
And… the man clearly hadn’t pulled his punches.
“Relax,” Wen Qimo consoled him. “Go find Xiaonan for a heal, and tomorrow morning you can come back for another beating.”
Lin Qiye: …
“All right, class begins.” Wen Qimo cleared his throat.
Lin Qiye straightened up.
“First, what exactly is a Forbidden Ruins—”
“Zhao Kongcheng already covered that.”
“Okay, then let’s talk about God’s Ruins—”
“Covered.”
“Fine. Forbidden Ruins born from objects—”
“Done.”
Wen Qimo: …
“Just how much did that guy sneak you…” He rubbed his temples. “What about the Forbidden Ruins Sequence? That one?”
“Nope.”
Wen Qimo exhaled in relief. “The Sequence is humanity’s danger-ranking list for Forbidden Ruins. Like the god-codes, it starts at 001. The lower the number, the deadlier the Ruins.”
“Same as the god-codes, then?”
“No. The god-code is just the order in which we discovered a god; it has nothing to do with power or threat. The Sequence is pure danger level.”
“Got it.”
“Anything after 600 is classed ‘harmless.’ Watering plants, killing mouth-bacteria, conjuring a spicy snack—small stuff.
400-599: low-risk. Can hurt, but nothing major; clever use can be tricky.
200-399: dangerous. Can threaten society on a noticeable scale and fight Mysteries.
90-199: high-risk. Large-scale threat, top-tier combat power. Our captain sits in this bracket.
Anything 89 and below: ultra-high-risk. Either city-level devastation or some reality-breaking trick. Straight-up inhuman. A few years back a myth creature with Sequence 063 【Luo Tian Mi Sha】 nearly buried several desert cities in sand; a special team had to take it down.”
Lin Qiye blinked. “Zhao Kongcheng said his Ruins was 083…”
“【Life-Extinguishing Flash Moon】, ultra-high-risk, bottom of that tier but still insanely rare.” Wen Qimo looked wistful. “If he’d been born with it, he’d probably be a general in some special squad by now.”
“So that’s the Ruins ranking. Where do God’s Ruins fit?”
“They’re still Forbidden Ruins, so they’re on the same list.” Wen Qimo glanced at him with envy. “Of the top thirty slots, twenty-three are God’s Ruins. Power handed down by gods isn’t something mortals can match—danger, weirdness, you name it.”
“Meaning seven human Ruins made the top thirty?”
“Yep.” Wen Qimo’s eyes lit up. “One of them even cracked the top five!”
“Which one?”
“No idea.”
“…”
“Don’t look at me like that. I’ve only been in Night Watch a few years; top-level secrets aren’t handed to rookies.” He spread his hands innocently.
“So what about mine?” Lin Qiye tapped his chest. “What number?”
Wen Qimo studied him, then said slowly:
“God-code 003, the Archangel Michael’s God’s Ruins—its name is 【Mortal Divine Realm】.
Forbidden Ruins Sequence: also 003.”
“Sequence 003, 【Mortal Divine Realm】…” Lin Qiye murmured.
“Don’t celebrate yet,” Wen Qimo added. “That 003 is Michael’s rank, not Lin Qiye’s. In the hands of a rookie who just stepped into the Mysteries world, it might only perform like a high-risk Ruins. One day, if you climb high enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with gods—then it will truly be 003.”
Lin Qiye nodded. “I understand.”
“One more question.”
“Shoot.”
“Can one person serve as the agent of several different gods?”
“Impossible.” Wen Qimo shook his head without hesitation. “Never happened in recorded history.”
“Oh.” Lin Qiye dipped his head.
From today on, there is.
Besides Michael’s 【Mortal Divine Realm】, he also carries the Night Goddess’s 【Starry Night Dancer】. In effect, he’s already the agent of two gods.
Can’t let that slip—if Night Watch brass drag him off to a lab, he’s toast. Once he’s strong enough, he can flaunt it all he wants.
“Basics covered. Let’s talk about what your Ruins can actually do right now.”
“Centered on me, twenty-metre radius. I can perceive everything inside.”
“Oh?” Wen Qimo’s brows rose. “What color is Hongying’s underwear today?”
“White.”
The two men locked eyes across the training ground…
…and shared a knowing grin.
