**Chapter 37: The Girl Who Beat a God**
*Asylum of the Gods.*
In the spacious, tidy courtyard, Nyx sat on a rocking chair, hugging a vase, lost in thought.
A young man in a white coat walked through the corridor, carrying a few bottles of medicine, and approached her.
“You’ve come to see me, Thanatos, my child.” Nyx turned to Lin Qiye, a smile blooming on her lips.
Lin Qiye sat beside her and gave a soft grunt.
“It’s time for your medicine.”
He poured out the pills from the bottle and carefully divided them into small piles, placing them in Nyx’s hand.
“Good girl, take your medicine first.”
Without hesitation, Nyx swallowed the pills in one gulp, then gazed at Lin Qiye with eyes full of affection.
“Thanatos, you seem troubled?”
Lin Qiye froze. He hadn’t expected Nyx, a mental patient, to see through his mood so easily. After a moment of hesitation, he nodded.
“Sort of.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Unfortunately, this isn’t something you can help with.” Lin Qiye shook his head.
Running away from home and nursing a broken heart wasn’t exactly something an outsider could fix.
Nyx looked a little dejected, then, as if remembering something, she said:
“In that case, Thanatos, let me give you a gift.”
“A gift?” Lin Qiye blinked.
“Yes, I’ll give you my bracelet. If you keep it with you, you’ll be able to…” Nyx reached for her wrist…
Then again.
She looked down at her bare wrist—there was no bracelet.
“My bracelet… where’s my bracelet?”
Lin Qiye: …
As expected, Nyx was seriously ill.
Nyx tilted her head, brows furrowed, as if deep in thought.
Just as Lin Qiye was about to get up and leave, Nyx suddenly spoke: “I remember now.”
“What do you remember?”
“My bracelet was won away.”
“Won away?” Lin Qiye blinked. He couldn’t recall any myth involving a bracelet. “Which god won it?”
“Not a god.” Nyx shook her head and pointed at Lin Qiye. “She was like you.”
“Like me… also your child?” Lin Qiye tried to think like Nyx.
“No, she was like you—she wore that same white coat.”
Lin Qiye’s pupils contracted, his brows knitting tightly.
“You mean… before I came, someone else wearing this coat entered your room and won your bracelet?”
Nyx nodded.
Lin Qiye’s expression turned grave.
Unintentionally, he had just learned something incredibly important from Nyx.
From what she said, before he ever knocked on the doors of this psychiatric hospital and released Nyx, someone else had been here—and had opened her door too!
He… wasn’t the only master of this place?
But this hospital existed inside his mind. How could someone else have entered?
Lin Qiye suddenly remembered that the first time he dreamed of knocking on the hospital doors was five years ago…
Five years ago, it had appeared suddenly, mysteriously, in his dreams.
Could it be… that even before he dreamed of it, someone else had been here?
With that thought, Lin Qiye immediately sat back down and asked seriously, “How did she win your bracelet?”
Nyx thought for a moment, then said, “She said she wanted to compete. If I won, she’d return my child. If I lost, I had to give her my bracelet.”
“What did you compete in?”
Nyx’s lips slowly parted: “Creation.”
“Creation? And you lost? How is that possible?” Lin Qiye’s eyes widened in shock. “You’re the Goddess of Night, one of the five primordial gods who created the world. How could you lose?”
“I don’t know, but I did.” Nyx shook her head.
“Do you remember what she looked like?”
“I do. She looked about twelve or thirteen, with long black hair. Very pretty. And she had a strange symbol here.” Nyx pointed to the back of her hand.
“A twelve-year-old girl beat you at creation?” Lin Qiye’s eyes nearly popped out. “Even if your divine status is damaged, that’s still impossible, right?”
Nyx sat there, seemingly lost in memory again.
Lin Qiye calmed himself and continued, “Do you remember anything else? Her name?”
“I don’t know… I just remember her surname might be… Ji?” Nyx said uncertainly.
“Ji…” Lin Qiye murmured.
“Before I returned to my room, she went that way.” Nyx thought for a moment, then pointed toward a room on the third floor.
“I understand. Rest well.” Lin Qiye glanced at the room, gave a quick instruction, then turned and ran toward the stairs.
A moment later, Lin Qiye stood before the room Nyx had pointed to.
On the doorplate were three large words:
**Director’s Office.**
Lin Qiye frowned slightly and pushed the door open.
Inside was a modest-sized office, somewhat cluttered.
He had been in this room before—it was where he had taken the white coat from the hanger. But back then, he hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
Since Nyx said the girl had entered this room, she might have left behind some important clues.
This time, he was going to search it thoroughly.
Instead of rummaging through drawers, he sat down, closed his eyes, and focused.
With the God’s Ruins granted by the Seraph, he could easily sense every object in the room—far more efficient than turning the place upside down.
A few seconds later, his eyes snapped open.
He walked to the desk, reached into a hidden compartment in the bottom drawer, and pulled out a slightly yellowed letter.
There it was!
Lin Qiye quickly tore open the envelope and took out the letter. His expression turned odd.
*Yikes… this handwriting is kind of ugly!*
It was crooked and messy, like a grade-schooler just learning to write.
> To someone:
>
> I don’t know who you are, but I know you’re the real master of this place.
>
> By the time you find this letter, several years will have passed. Don’t laugh at my handwriting—I’m still young. I’ll write better when I grow up.
>
> Sorry for keeping your hospital with me for a while. But since it’s returned to its rightful owner now, don’t be mad at me, okay? (Stick-out-tongue doodle)
>
> Also, I borrowed a few things from your patients. I’ll return them when I find you again, don’t worry!
>
> One last reminder—there’s something hidden beneath this office~
>
> When I grow up, I’ll come find you, stranger. After all, you’re my hope of going home.
>
> Bye bye~
