# Chapter 897: W37 Base Station
The incident happened very suddenly. Xu Huo was still counting the items of the cannibal player when the next second he was moved outside the train. The players from the same carriage were nowhere to be seen, and he found himself standing in a long-abandoned city. Wide but cracked roads had undulating surfaces that blocked the view. Whether looking forward or backward, at a normal person's eye level, one couldn't see beyond fifty meters.
On both sides of the road stood buildings that had experienced burning, explosions, and tilting. This city's civilization was clearly more developed than District 014's, with garden-style architecture. Therefore, after abandonment, unattended plants grew rapidly and covered most of the building surfaces, giving off a gloomy (senran) feeling in the darkness. Behind the rustling branches and leaves seemed to hide unpredictable dangers.
The moment Xu Huo came out, he used "Vacuum Circle." Although he didn't make much noise, it still startled some animals lurking in the night.
Judging their positions, he moved his feet and advanced thirty meters forward before using "Gentleman's Poise" to rise into the air.
"Gentleman's Poise" was faster than he had imagined, so combined with misdirection, he easily avoided several xenomorphs that pounced out.
These xenomorphs had evolved to nearly five meters in height, with well-developed limbs on their massive bodies. Even on flat ground, they could leap over ten meters high, let alone on the uneven terrain.
Three xenomorphs moved like shadows shuttling (chuansuo) through the night, running silently. Using the raised ground, they jumped upward and opened their mouths to bite at the flying person.
Xu Huo drew "Crimson Sword" and slashed through the air at the nearest xenomorph. Just then, an arrow shot from a building on the side struck the sword blade, deflecting it slightly. The sword energy only shaved off a tuft of fur from the xenomorph.
Watching the xenomorphs return to the ground and linger in place, he looked up toward the direction the arrow came from.
The archer was moving quickly inside the building. Judging by the speed, it shouldn't be a player, but the person didn't make any noise either, and had likely been disguised (weizhuang) nearby for some time.
Non-players could use very few items (daoju). Being able to survive in this abandoned (feiqi) city where xenomorphs roamed freely proved that the person could conceal their tracks well, perhaps a remnant of the civilization.
Not in a hurry to chase, Xu Huo put on his invisibility cloak and landed on the balcony of a middle floor of the building — not that he wanted to be here, but when he went up, he saw a twenty-meter-long cocoon on the rooftop, with many things squirming inside.
Entering the room from the balcony, he quickly surveyed the layout, confirmed it was safe, and then opened his personal panel:
[Player Passerby A has successfully entered W37 Base Station, defaulting to participate in instance "Encrypted Information." This instance is C-grade. Players may choose team mode to clear.]
[Background Introduction: The original name of W37 Base Station is no longer verifiable. It rapidly collapsed after the first xenomorph outbreak, losing a massive population while its civilization quickly disintegrated. Once-proud technological achievements were completely annihilated. The surviving people had to retreat to thirty-seven temporarily established safe cities — hence the name W37 Base Station.]
[However, unpredictable weather mutations and massive xenomorph reproduction greatly reduced the base cities' food production areas. To survive, the base cities had to dispatch armed teams to search for suitable planting locations. After a long time, although the armed teams found some habitable places, they brought back a virus that humans couldn't resist. Ten base cities became epidemic zones. Cut off from external resources, they were attacked by xenomorphs, completely losing their defense lines within three months and becoming xenomorph habitats.]
[Due to insufficient protection at the outbreak's beginning, the virus later spread to base cities that had dispatched rescue personnel and evacuated populations, causing five safe cities to fall. Only when other base cities completely refused to accept the epidemic city populations and established isolation zones was the virus transmission successfully stopped.]
[However, after prolonged research at W11 Base, they discovered a type of human xenomorph with antibodies. After reaching agreements with some bases, their armed forces began hunting these xenomorphs alive and transporting them to the base.]
[But crossing areas with harsh natural environments and active xenomorphs is not easy. Over a dozen armed teams relayed to transport the last three living samples to W19 Base. After the most recently dispatched armed team sent a distress signal and then lost contact, W11 Base entrusted the task of transporting the living samples to the players.]
[Instance Task: Transport one living sample to W37 Base.]
[Instance Time: Thirty days in this zone.]
[The time in this instance world differs from the calculation method at the player's origin wormhole point. Players may complete the task based on this zone's time. Each player will receive a locator that will indicate direction when approaching a living sample.]
Following this were two different sets of time. The top set was from Wormhole Point E27, the bottom from Wormhole Point E21. The seconds of the two sets ticked at different speeds, and each had its own countdown.
E27's countdown was seven days, E21's was thirty days, but each day was twenty-four hours.
Xu Huo exited and looked at his watch. The hands ticked normally, but neither E21 nor E27's time matched.
He stood still for ten seconds, counting, then looked at the time on his personal panel. His personal perception also differed from this zone's time.
That is to say, the time lengths corresponding (duizhao) between the two zones were different. In terms of human perception, the unit time length had also changed. Although it was still a twenty-four-hour timing method (jishifa), the total amount of time had changed.
It could be roughly understood as seven days passing in E27 while one month passed in E21.
However, the traces time left on a person's body wouldn't change. But due to the change in unit time, with players having long lifespans, a difference of a few days or tens of days could be ignored.
Taking off his watch, Xu Huo replaced it with the item "Complete Time."
This item could automatically convert according to the zone's time, saving the trouble of constantly checking the personal panel.
He set the thirty-day countdown and then began searching the room.
The first step of the task was to go to a certain location at W19 Base to obtain a living sample. Although he had a locator, the maximum range was unclear, and he didn't know if he had been teleported to W19 Base. So first, he needed to figure out his location.
This wasn't difficult. In the living room, there was a paper calendar issued by the base, with the characters (ziyang) W18 printed on it.
Unable to find any map of the base station, Xu Huo opened "Under Dimension" and purchased a map from another player. According to the map, W18 and W19 weren't far apart, only requiring crossing a desert area.
The map's authenticity was uncertain. He looked at it briefly, then put it away. Opening the door, he didn't find stairs but instead saw several single-person elevators that were no longer usable, though there were traces of ropes and climbing inside.
