Chapter 794: The Prey Might Be the Hunter
The room was silent. Xiao Yuan crouched outside the door and waited for a while. Seeing many figures approaching from the alley entrance, she quickly stood up and gently knocked on the door.
There was no response from inside. People appeared at both ends of the alley, and even the rooftops across the street had people standing on them.
Xiao Yuan pressed herself fearfully against the wall.
One person stepped forward and waved for her to move away.
Xiao Yuan clearly knew him. Her body reflexively trembled, but she still didn’t move from her spot.
Seeing this, the man frowned and asked the person beside him, “How old is this girl?”
“She’s about to turn ten.”
“Old enough.” The man who asked signaled his companion to remove Xiao Yuan, but at that moment, the door beside them opened.
Xu Huo was still sitting in his wheelchair. To make it easier for the wheelchair to get in and out, the door was wide open, which also allowed those outside to clearly see the situation inside.
The few children had long been scared stiff. The adults were all lying on the ground, and given all the blood, they couldn’t possibly be alive.
The wheelchair came out the door. Xu Huo swept his gaze over the people near and far. “You’ve all come in quite a crowd. Saves me the trouble of looking for you one by one.”
He casually flipped through the thug’s phone, stopped at one of the photos, and held it up. “This is you, right?”
He was asking the man who had inquired about Xiao Yuan’s age.
“Don’t think that just because you’re a player, you can ignore the rules here.” The man stepped back, hiding behind the others, and added, “We have plenty of ways to deal with a wounded player!”
As he spoke, a net shot down from above.
It was an item, but not a high-level one. Xu Huo dealt with it with a single sword strike. Between the flickering of the lighter, the two players who had followed the net were also set on fire and rolled down from midair. Before they could get up, one had his throat slit, and the other was hoisted high into the air by a string, then fell.
The height wasn’t enough to kill a player, but it could break bones. The player looked up at Xu Huo, gritted his teeth, and tried to retreat, but in the next second, a kite string shot toward him!
Seeing the situation was bad, the player immediately hid inside the game.
But the kite string didn’t miss. It caught a nearby thug, a burly man who was dragged flying through the air, only to be punched away by Xu Huo—even from two or three meters away, the sound of his chest bones shattering was audible. Two seconds later, the man, who had slammed into the street wall opposite, had no breath left.
“Click! Click! Click!” The lighter opened and closed. A few thugs on the periphery were set ablaze. Once the fire started, they could no longer care about anything else and ran around in panic.
“It’s late; no need to disturb others’ rest.” Xu Huo, quick-eyed and nimble-handed, used the kite string to pull these people back and took the opportunity to reap a few more.
In what seemed like just a few blinks, half of those present had fallen. The previously arrogant thug shouted in panic toward the alley entrance, “Brother Xing! If you don’t act now, none of us will survive!”
Only then did two people appear at the alley entrance. One of them threw out a black cloth. Wrapped in that cloth, the flames on the thugs were immediately extinguished, though the severe injuries were unavoidable.
But these two players didn’t care about the thugs’ lives. One of them ran along the wall toward Xu Huo, while the other leaped several zhang into the air to assist the attack from above!
The “Crimson Sword” swung through the air. Xu Huo first forced back the former, then erected an air barrier to block the one descending from above. Taking advantage of the two being close, he retracted the “Compressed Air” and used “Extreme Fatigue” and “Progress Bar Erasure.”
The two players’ speed visibly slowed, but at that moment, Xu Huo’s wheelchair slid toward them on its own, as if on an icy surface.
The distance between them wasn’t far. The two players worked in perfect coordination. One stood three meters away and brought his palms together, and an invisible force squeezed the wheelchair from both sides—though the wheels spun rapidly, it couldn’t change the fact that the wheelchair was being crushed and deformed. The person inside seemed to be embedded in the wheelchair, unable to escape!
At the same time, the other player threw out a pink ribbon that automatically wrapped around Xu Huo and the wheelchair, first preventing him from breaking free, then pulling out a spear-like item and thrusting it toward him!
To be fair, these two weren’t slow. Their item coordination was decent, and they even maintained a certain distance during the fight. Even two or three meters could limit the effect of items, but it also exposed a major weakness: they relied too heavily on items and traits, and their items weren’t very high-level.
Xu Huo raised the “Eye of the Dead” to block the spear, pushed it aside, and first cut through the ribbon on him. At that moment, the force crushing the wheelchair disappeared. He turned back and smiled at the player.
The latter’s face showed shock, and he immediately tried to retreat, but unfortunately, a kite string had already pierced his leg. Between the retreat and the pull, the player was dragged to the ground and finished off with a single sword strike.
Then Xu Huo looked at the remaining player.
“Brother Xing…” the thug leader’s voice trembled. “Kill him quickly!”
With his companion dead, the remaining Xing had no time to pay attention to the thug. A moment of distraction could be exploited. Xu Huo, even while tied up and crushed, had still found a chance to use an item. One-on-one, the opponent would have even more opportunities to strike.
“Your items are decent, but you’re crippled!” Xing retracted his spear and switched to a whip, maintaining a certain distance to attack from afar.
But before he could even lash out, he felt the ground disappear beneath him: a large pit had somehow appeared. He fell several meters before steadying himself, only to look up and find himself standing right in front of the wheelchair!
Meeting Xu Huo’s gaze, Xing’s fear hadn’t even translated into action before his heart was pierced.
Xu Huo pulled out his sword, kicked the man into the wall with his uninjured right foot, and turned to Xiao Yuan. “Weaknesses put on display aren’t necessarily real weaknesses. Be careful, watch closely, because it might be a trap.”
Xiao Yuan’s fear was mixed with excitement. She ran to the wheelchair and shouted loudly, “I’ll remember, Teacher!”
Xu Huo raised an eyebrow slightly but didn’t correct her. After dealing with the remaining few, he prepared to leave.
“I saw several people on the rooftops just now,” Xiao Yuan said quietly as she voluntarily pushed the wheelchair.
“If they don’t come over, they’re none of our business,” Xu Huo said, then pointed at the corpses on the ground. “Any more left?”
Xiao Yuan nodded emphatically. “Two more. I know where they are!”
Xu Huo let her push him there.
People followed them all the way, but no one made a move. Xu Huo easily dealt with the human trafficking organization and then took Xiao Yuan back to the inn.
The innkeeper had already packed his bags and was ready to flee. Seeing Xu Huo return, his eyelids twitched, and he put on a fawning expression as he approached. “You’re back so soon?”
Xu Huo glanced at the car loaded with gasoline and food. “I’ll borrow your car.”
