Chapter 772: I Always Keep My Word

The person who had been using a silencing item outside the door suddenly withdrew the item, walking past the door openly. Glancing at the sword in Xu Huo's hand, they curved their eyebrows into a smile. "Don't be so tense. Just passing by."

Xu Huo could already smell the scent of blood.

When his gaze shifted toward the adjacent room, the baby-faced female player smiled amiably and said, "People who mind their own business usually live longer in the game."

"Only those with self-awareness live long." Xu Huo put away the Crimson Sword. "Do you think only low-level players can enter a random instance?"

The baby-faced player's smile didn't waver. "Let's talk nicely, no need to be so irritable. You're reading here, right? I won't disturb you then."

With that, she bounced away and returned to the raincoat-clad man's side, pointing toward Xu Huo. The raincoat man then turned to look at Xu Huo and gave a distant nod.

Xu Huo ignored them. Lu Zhen, who had just come over, happened to see the corpse in the room and instinctively covered her mouth before asking, "They..."

"Haven't you seen a dead body before?" Xu Huo walked over to take a look. There were no signs of a struggle in the room. This player had died cleanly.

There were over twenty people in the villa, but a considerable number of players could be seen through at a glance. The ones who died last night, and this one—it wasn't surprising they were chosen as targets.

"Hasn't nothing happened yet? Why are they in such a hurry to kill?" Lu Zhen thought it would take at least two or three days before murder incidents occurred, because after two or three days of confinement, both food supplies and mental endurance would be about depleted.

"Narrowing the field." Xu Huo said, "The fewer people there are, the shorter each person's turn will be."

Lu Zhen swallowed hard. "Why hasn't anyone left yet?"

Logically, the player who became the "temporary master" last night should have completed their task by eight o'clock this morning and should have been able to clear the instance. "Could they have unknowingly violated the rules? Or do they want to stay here to kill and pick off survivors?"

That wasn't important. Xu Huo was more concerned about the game's requirements for the "temporary master." The first to become the "temporary master" should have the most advantage. At this point, all players were either testing the waters or waiting for others to probe the rules. As long as they stayed in the room until dawn, they succeeded. After all, it was a random instance—clearing it was more important.

Unless the game had other requirements for the "temporary master" that prevented the player who became master from safely staying in the room until dawn.

At eight o'clock this morning, there should have been a second "temporary master" in the villa.

Xu Huo returned to the living room and surveyed the players sitting or standing. There were too many targets to lock onto.

Just then, a scream came from upstairs, followed by a man's teasing laughter and a woman's angry shouts. Several players in the living room who had been about to go check things out stopped in their tracks, exchanged knowing smiles, and decided not to bother.

A few others looked hesitant, but seeing no one else moving, they stayed put as well.

Some players, however, began letting their gazes wander over the few female players in the living room.

"Standing by and doing nothing, huh?" The seductive female player twirled a fake flower she'd found somewhere. "I swear, you men all have your brains in your pants. Haven't you learned from the wisdom of the ancients? Lust is a knife hanging over your head."

Just as she finished speaking, another scream came from upstairs—this time from a male player. Then a female player jumped down from the second floor. Her clothes were torn, and there were signs of beating on her face. Three men followed behind her, one of whom had two fingers broken on his right hand and was the most furious. After landing, he flicked a prop to lock the female player's feet.

The female player fell to the ground, turned around, and threw a flying knife, but the man sneered, "You think I'd fall for that again?!"

The flying knife was drawn away by a magnet. The man stepped forward, grabbed the female player by the hair, and tore off her clothes. "Let's see where you can run today!"

As he spoke, he flipped her over and was about to mount her when the back of his neck was suddenly seized. The other person's fingers closed in. "Killing someone is one thing, but this is going too far."

Just one sentence. No need for a response, no room left for him. The next second, a crisp crack came from the man's cervical vertebrae, and his head twisted sharply to the right, facing the man standing beside him.

Xu Huo let the corpse fall, clapped his hands, and looked at the other two players.

Their expressions flickered between uncertainty and anger, but after a moment of hesitation, they backed down and slunk away obediently.

The injured female player sat up, covered herself, and thanked Xu Huo. Her face was swollen, but she wasn't crying. She showed no reaction to the sympathetic or indifferent looks around her.

Lu Zhen draped her coat over the woman, but the female player just smiled. "Good deeds don't always pay off. Someone might set up a trap like this to lure unwary players."

Lu Zhen shook her head. "Do you want me to help you up?"

The female player stood up on her own, wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, and silently headed to the restroom.

"These people are despicable!" Lu Zhen muttered angrily. "If they've got guts, go pick on men!"

"Oh, little sister, this kind of thing isn't just in the game—it's common even outside." The seductive female player lounged on the sofa and said to her, "Especially for someone like you, who looks easy to bully. But... the guy you're rooming with is pretty tough. You're lucky."

Lu Zhen didn't know what to say.

The seductive female player then joked with Xu Huo, "Handsome, how about coming to my room today?"

Xu Huo looked at her. "Sure."

This caught the female player off guard. She raised an eyebrow. "Did I hear that right?"

"You didn't." Xu Huo smiled too. "I always keep my word. If I don't come today, I'll come tomorrow. Just wait."

The seductive female player's playful expression vanished completely. She stared at him with a dark look for two seconds before saying, "Fine! Come if you dare!"

Compared to her anger, Xu Huo was as relaxed as if he'd just agreed to have dinner together. After settling that, he headed up to the third floor.
