Chapter 608: Trial Effect of the Item
"This way we can also avoid encountering random instances on the road." Wang Xiaohui smiled gently, completely without the confusion she had shown on the initial screening train.
Xu Huo glanced at the man standing beside her. "He's the player who escorted you to the second-class seats, isn't he?"
Wang Xiaohui was slightly surprised. "You recognized him?"
Xu Huo knew from Nie Xuan that after the initial screening train ended, a surviving player from the third-class seats had been severely injured. He had secretly run away after two days of treatment in the hospital. He was infected with Xenomorph poison, and no one expected him to still be alive now.
"Wei Mang was the first good person I met after entering the game." Wang Xiaohui placed her hands gently on her knees. "That's why I found him and tried to slow down the Xenomorph poison in his body. Perhaps because of my disability, I obtained quite a few potions after completing instances. Although these potions can't completely eradicate the poison, they can effectively delay it, allowing him to live like a normal person."
"When I was a few years old, my mother died in a car accident. My father is paralyzed, and the family business has always been controlled by my uncle. I have no assets under my name, which is why I was in the third-class seats when I entered the game."
Yuan Yao beside her was already full of sympathy, but Xu Huo remained as expressionless as before, with no change in his gaze.
Wang Xiaohui paused, then added, "But fortune and misfortune depend on each other. If I had entered the special-class seats, I might not have survived."
"Congratulations." Xu Huo examined the woman across from him. It was clear she had now regained control of the family business, carrying herself with the decisive demeanor of a strong female leader.
"What do you want from me?" he said. "You can drop the talk about saving my life."
Wang Xiaohui smiled. "Alright, then I won't beat around the bush."
She rolled up Wei Mang's sleeve, revealing an arm covered in scars. But the scars weren't the main issue; his skin was covered in a black-and-purple intersecting network of veins, covering a large area.
"I know you have a way to treat Xenomorph poison, so I want to ask you to save Wei Mang." She said seriously, "Additionally, I have established two research institutes under my name, one of which specializes in Xenomorph poison. If you can give me a Detox Fungus, you can take fifty percent of the profits from the institute's future research results."
"If you need Evolution Agents or other potions, I can also provide them."
"You can go to the Special Defense Department about this," Xu Huo said. "The Special Defense Department should have a new antidote coming out soon."
Wang Xiaohui's smile faltered slightly. "I'm worried Wei Mang won't live to see that day."
Xu Huo, however, smiled. "Although he's poisoned, his organs are normal, and it hasn't affected his daily life. It should be a new mutation that occurred during the evolution process or treatment. There's no immediate danger to his life, right?"
Apart from the scars on his body, Wei Mang's physical fitness was probably even slightly better than that of an ordinary player.
"Even so, I still hope to first remove the Xenomorph poison from his body." Wang Xiaohui looked at him with red-rimmed eyes. "You can name your conditions. Whether it's items, potions, or anything else, I can find a way."
Xu Huo didn't speak. After a moment, Yuan Yao couldn't hold back and whispered, "Brother Xu, she... she really can buy a lot of high-level items. We won't lose out on this deal."
Xu Huo just looked at Wang Xiaohui. "Is your trait related to influencing others' emotions?"
Wang Xiaohui showed surprise, then quickly composed herself and admitted honestly, "Showing weakness has almost become my instinct."
She seemed to realize she couldn't find a breakthrough with Xu Huo, paused, and said, "I know this is asking too much. I'm not too surprised by this outcome. But I can still take you to Jing City, since traveling is inconvenient right now."
Xu Huo didn't take the bait either. Wang Xiaohui couldn't help but feel disappointed. She left her contact information and had Wei Mang take her away.
"Miss Wang is leaving already?" Yuan Yao stood up to see them off, saying reluctantly, "Come visit again when you have time."
Wang Xiaohui said, "It's not convenient for me to go out, but you can come find me."
Yuan Yao nodded happily. "Sure, sure. Maybe we'll even run into each other in the same instance next time."
Wang Xiaohui didn't say more and left with Wei Mang.
After the helicopter had gone far away, Yuan Yao turned back to ask Xu Huo, "Brother Xu, why didn't you cooperate with Wang Xiaohui? Even though we can get items in the game, really good items are hard to come by. Buying them costs a lot of money. She has money and connections, so isn't it more convenient?"
"I thought you were completely dazzled." Xu Huo took out the "Orb of Murmurs" again.
Yuan Yao scratched his head. "I did feel a bit strange at first, but gradually it faded. She really did seem pitiful. It wasn't until you mentioned it that I realized... I didn't expect there to be a trait like that."
"Although traits are linked to the profession a player chooses, they come more from the player's own personality and experiences. Given her physical condition, it's normal."
The defense barrier trait she had used on the initial screening train was even more special.
Painting Woman had already tidied up the room. Xu Huo stood up and added, "Sima Xiao'er will probably come by later. He's been arranged by the Special Defense Department to help me out, so he might be staying here for a few days."
Yuan Yao said that was no problem.
Once inside the room, Xu Huo closed the window, stuffed the door cracks, and then activated the "Orb of Murmurs."
In the silent room, a speaking voice suddenly appeared, like someone whispering in his ear. The tone was quite eerie, with a seductive quality, making one involuntarily lean in to hear what the voice was saying.
Xu Huo listened for a minute. Aside from finding it a bit annoying, he didn't feel anything else. He looked up at Painting Woman, who was leaning against the wall playing on her phone. "Did you hear that?"
Painting Woman typed quickly and flipped her phone screen toward him. "Something is calling. It doesn't sound good."
Xu Huo asked in detail what kind of sound it was and found that what Painting Woman heard was completely different from what he heard.
"Help me call Yuan Yao in."
By this time, Sima Xiao'er had also come up. When he heard from Painting Woman that Xu Huo needed help, he immediately volunteered and went in with Yuan Yao.
After the two entered the room, Xu Huo again sealed the doors and windows, placing the "Orb of Murmurs" in front of them.
At first, Sima Xiao'er curiously leaned in and asked, "What kind of item is this? It can make sounds."
But half a minute later, the expressions of both him and Yuan Yao began to change. They both stared ahead in fear, then vigorously rubbed their eyes and pinched themselves. After struggling for a while, they seemed to give up, then ran around the room screaming uncontrollably, even making attacking gestures toward empty spaces.
After a few minutes, the "Orb of Murmurs" also changed. A layer of black smoke appeared around the sphere.
"Can you see it?" he asked Painting Woman.
Painting Woman shook her head.
Xu Huo paused, then tried to release his spiritual power.
