Chapter 408: Useless Adult

This player, aside from the Holy Sword Society member Xu Huo had killed, yielded the most and most practical gains. As for Tu Ge, who seemed like a fat sheep, aside from a toy sword that could extend called "Let You Run Six and a Half Meters First" and a pair of "Bouncing Marbles" that could track and attack a target, his other items were of little use.
As for potions, Tu Ge had even fewer, but he had accumulated quite a bit of White Notes, a full three hundred thousand.
Fleeing over four hundred thousand White Notes from these two people barely alleviated Xu Huo's current financial embarrassment.
He found no clues about Super Evolution from Tu Ge either, but he wasn't disappointed. Compared to Tu Ge, he believed Butterfly Lady knew more.
Putting away the items, he took a closer look at the potions.
Half of the wooden sword player's potions were issued by the Government Hall, with the Government Hall's mark on the bottles. They were mainly Evolution Agents, Self-Healing Agents, and Hemostatic Agents. This was also the first time Xu Huo had obtained a B-grade Self-Healing Agent.
Self-Healing Agents below C-grade all have the effect of stopping bleeding, relieving pain, and accelerating wound healing. B-grade Self-Healing Agents are superior, containing a regenerative cell that allows severed muscles and even bones to regenerate quickly.
Of course, this regeneration wasn't instantaneous but greatly reduced normal recovery time, and it was more effective for players with higher Evolution Rates.
Shaking the light green liquid in the glass tube, Xu Huo couldn't help but wonder—if the game could even achieve wound regeneration, couldn't it really overcome the flaws in the Evolution Agent?
Given the passage of time, if that Dr. Wu hadn't died, he might have already been captured by Stellar Corporation.
Putting down the Self-Healing Agent, he looked at the other three potions. The bottles had no usage instructions, only a label:
"A mind-bendingly good thing."
The item slot didn't have a specific name for this potion; when placed in it, it showed "Self-Made Potion." The wooden sword player specialized in flowers and plants, so it might be a special ingredient extracted from vegetation.
Equipping "Oxygen Supply," he pulled out the stopper, and a strong smell surged out.
The "Oxygen Supply" item could greatly reduce the player's gas exchange with the outside world, so Xu Huo only smelled an indescribably pungent stench. But even with the item protecting him, the smell was this intense—imagine its lethality.
Just as he was about to put the potions away, a round ball suddenly flew in through the window. It slammed into his arm, then opened a gap in its belly to swallow the dropped potion. Following that, it bounced a few times on the desk, swallowed the remaining potions, and even burped at him.
Xu Huo walked onto the balcony and said to the nearby window, "Staying in my house and taking things without asking—isn't that a bit much?"
"I wouldn't even look twice at those potions of yours," Butterfly Lady's voice came from inside. "Just to avoid being woken up by the stench in the middle of the night, I'm confiscating them."
That ball bounced out the window, dropped downstairs, then shot back up into Butterfly Lady's window.
"Your item is still with me. Want it back?" Xu Huo took out a small stone chip the size of a melon seed. It had probably been a decoration stuck to her folding fan, stolen by the Greedy Snake.
Butterfly Lady ignored him, and the window on the balcony slammed shut with a "bang."
Xu Huo smiled, returned to the room, and took off the "Oxygen Supply," but the next second he put the item back on and took out "Fresh-Scented Dried Flowers" to clean the air.
That night, aside from Mr. Dong, probably no one in the castle could sleep well. Although the dried flowers continuously released fragrance, the stench—no one knew what it came from—was persistent, clinging to furniture and decorations. Mixed with the scent, the whole castle alternated between fragrant and foul, making everyone dizzy.
"Truly a mind-bendingly good thing." Butterfly Lady sat calmly in the dining room eating.
As for Xu Huo, wearing the glass cover, if he wanted to eat, he had to endure this bizarre smell.
Unflinchingly putting away the item, he began to eat and chatted idly with Butterfly Lady.
"Not going out today?"
"Not in the mood." Butterfly Lady cut her fried egg, and even with her mask on, it couldn't hide her bad mood.
Xu Huo tactfully didn't say much and left by car after eating.
This time, he used the "Actor's Mask" to change his face to an ordinary one, then put on the "Clown Suit" to sell toys and candy near the lower city.
During this, two children's parents came to "return" items. In the scuffle, they pulled off his hood. He threatened to call the police, and they backed off. After swindling a few hundred White Notes from them, he began picking up the snacks that had scattered on the ground during the struggle.
A little boy from the lower city led a few children over to help. After picking everything up, the group of one adult and several kids sat by the street to rest.
To show gratitude, Xu Huo shared candy with them. The little boy clutched his candy, looking troubled, and asked, "They hit you—why didn't you hit them back?"
"Hitting people costs money," Xu Huo said nonchalantly. "Besides, they didn't actually land a hit on me."
"So you just let yourself be bullied?" the little boy said angrily. "It was their own kids who bought the stuff—how can they return eaten things!"
"So angry? Reminds you of when your own parents were bullied?" Xu Huo cut straight to the point.
The little boy's eyes reddened. "I don't want to be such a useless adult when I grow up. If I go to school, will I not get bullied?"
"No, you might still get bullied at school, and the people who bully you will get bullied by others too." Xu Huo unwrapped a lollipop and popped it into his mouth. "But for every extra day you go to school, there's one fewer person who can bully you."
"You went to school too, and you still get bullied by the same kind of adults," a little squirt beside him said while licking his candy, being very blunt.
"That's because I didn't study much and wasn't good at it," Xu Huo said offhandedly.
The little boy clenched his fists. "If I could go to school, I'd definitely study well!"
Xu Huo glanced at him. "First, see if you can even get into school."
The little boy immediately became dejected again. A few kids gathered around him. "Big brother, don't go to school. If you do, your dad will hit you again. If you keep saying you want to go to school, he'll definitely beat you to death, or maybe lock you in the cupboard and not let you out. Then we won't be able to play together anymore."
"I want to go to school!" the little boy shouted. "I don't want to be a useless adult!"
With that, he threw down his candy and ran off. The other kids quickly chased after him. One of them ran two steps, then turned back, snatched the candy before Xu Huo could, and said with great authority, "You gave it to big brother, so it's his!"
Then he too sprinted away.
Xu Huo packed up his things. Passing by a small shop, he casually glanced at a middle-aged man in a hat facing the door, then nonchalantly looked away and left the block.
Over the next few days, he would move around the lower city in a certain pattern, until one day, an unusually large number of children came out to play in the lower city.
