Chapter 3077: Soft Persimmon

With things said to this point, everyone roughly understood what kind of people the opposing group was. It wasn’t hard to imagine that Challenge Island would privately interfere with players landing on the island—on the contrary, it would be strange if no one interfered. This was also a way to create highlights.

At the same time, a bad guess quietly arose in everyone’s hearts: Challenge Island might never have intended to let any player leave at all. All the previous promises were fake.

But since they were already on the island and the game channels had been cut off, they could only try to survive first!

Fortunately, the guns of the opposing group weren’t better energy weapons. Similar to the previous player, the bullets they fired would automatically split, had some tracking ability, and could penetrate ordinary defense device barriers. However, not all defense barriers could be broken—at least the white-haired man’s device had blocked them.

He drew the long blade strapped to his back and said in a deep voice to his companions, “Leave no survivors!”

As he spoke, the defense barrier disappeared, and he charged out first. After dodging a few flying needles, he closed in on a gun-wielding player. When the two engaged in close combat, the devices on their bodies activated one after another, producing a series of collision sounds.

At the same time, the players in the white-haired man’s team also rushed forward, clashing with the gun-wielding group.

Ding Xiang, Old Duan, and the others certainly weren’t idle either. Their speed was slightly slower than the white-haired man’s team, so they stayed on the periphery, seizing opportunities to coordinate and specifically disrupt the gun-wielding players. Yi Lan focused on the entire battlefield, helping teammates at critical moments.

Xu Huo and Two-Heads didn’t move closer.

Two-Heads had lost too much blood, and Xu Huo’s condition was similar. Earlier, the white-haired man had said that the tricky matters could be handled by their team, so Xu Huo conserved his strength as much as possible to deal with any potential chaotic space.

To cross the Wasteland Zone and survive, both sides had reached a cooperation. So now, Xu Huo didn’t need to go fight.

The gun-wielding team had only six people, but each was quite skilled. They also carried many devices, with overall quality higher than what the white-haired man’s group had bought from Little Bear City—though none had large-scale destructive power.

On the white-haired man’s side, there were more people. The devices they had unlocked themselves while crossing zones were of higher quality. Although not many were preserved, when gathered together, they were still considerable. The two sides were roughly evenly matched, and the outcome couldn’t be decided quickly.

“Watch out!” Yi Lan, overseeing the whole situation, warned the white-haired man. His peripheral vision caught a gun-wielding player on his left pulling out a jamming device. He immediately turned his blade and slashed toward the opponent’s right hand!

Having failed to use the jamming device in time, the white-haired man, Ding Xiang, and the others managed to recover some of their devices. The gun-wielding side had already lost the initiative, and even if they acted again, they could destroy few devices. So one of them threw out a device that released wind and sand.

The blinding yellow sand obscured vision. Even though they were only a few dozen meters apart, Ding Xiang and the others couldn’t see Xu Huo and Two-Heads, nor could they see each other. However, the former quickly noticed, “Someone’s coming over!”

Yi Lan loudly warned Xu Huo and Two-Heads.

Probably seeing that Xu Huo and Two-Heads weren’t participating in the fight and looked pale and low on energy, the gun-wielding side treated them as extras. Rather than waiting for them to attack after both sides were battered, it was better to deal with them cleanly first!

So two people came over from that side.

The plan was well thought out, but the result might not be as expected.

Two-Heads sneered and charged forward first. The gun he had picked up earlier was in his hand. After closing in, he fired a few shots first, then used his years of martial arts training to react flexibly and dodge the flying needles coming at him. Moving at no slower speed, he rushed into the two opponents and punched one of them flying!

“Think I’m a soft persimmon, huh!”

The two tangled up, while the other opponent headed straight for Xu Huo.

The wind and sand raged, making it necessary to be very close to see clearly. That player could sense Xu Huo’s position and, upon closing in, indeed saw Xu Huo. But what he didn’t expect was that his blade swing missed. Before the thought in his mind could fully form, he felt a chill at his throat, then heat, followed by red liquid spurting out.

Xu Huo stood right beside him and said calmly, “Is the sandstorm too strong? Got dizzy eyes?”

The man covered his neck with one hand and raised his pistol with the other. But just as he aimed at the person beside him, one of Xu Huo’s hands grabbed the gun, pressing against the man’s fingers. “You can’t use this gun well. It’s just right for me.”

The man involuntarily let go of the gun and fell backward. In his blurring vision, the figure aimed the gun at the battlefield beyond the yellow sand. A faint sound was heard, and the flying needle shot out, bringing two cries of pain, followed by the unclear sound of heavy objects hitting the ground...

He wasn’t sure if his companions had been killed, because he had no energy left to care about more.

Xu Huo didn’t look at the man dead at his feet. Instead, he said to Two-Heads, who had retreated, “That gun of yours is almost broken. Take this.”

Two-Heads didn’t stand on ceremony. Grinning, he said, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you right here.”

Xu Huo said nothing more.

The white-haired man’s side also finished quickly. Of the six players, Xu Huo had killed one, and they had killed two. The remaining three, seeing the situation was bad, used devices to escape directly—long-distance teleportation, taking them far beyond their perception range. There was no way to know where they had fled, nor any way to pursue.

“Too bad we don’t have a sealing device,” Ding Xiang said regretfully.

“Let them go,” the white-haired man said philosophically. The Wasteland Zone was huge, and they wouldn’t specifically chase after us to kill.

However, a few among them had gained some benefit from the misfortune, as their scores kept rising.

No one felt happy. Challenge Island’s event settings were already extremely difficult. With the organizers stepping in, even if they successfully crossed zones, they might not really be able to leave. What was there to be happy about with high scores?

“If this is how it is, what’s the point of watching Challenge Island? Might as well watch a movie that follows a script,” Ding Xiang muttered. But the next second, her score began to drop, falling from 3,700 to 3,300 before gradually slowing down.

Her face turned ugly, and the other players weren’t much better. Even saying that wasn’t allowed?

“Forget it. Whether the off-field audience supports or not, isn’t it also interfering with the players crossing zones?” Old Duan lowered his voice. What did it matter if the organizers got involved? If all the players banded together, what would be the point of Challenge Island?

The white-haired man wiped the blood off his blade, his eyes dark as he looked ahead. “Keep moving. We will definitely get out alive.”

The white-haired man had strong leadership skills, at least in that his team generally followed his decisions.

“We have to split up,” he said to Xu Huo. “Running into the gun-wielding team wasn’t a coincidence.”

This was Challenge Island deliberately reducing their strength.

Xu Huo nodded. “Meet up again in half a day.”
