Chapter 3048: He Has No Highlights
A cannibal player who could successfully survive to A-rank would never lack in physical fitness and combat experience. In a single exchange, he punched -81, who was charging with a makeshift shield, sending him flying. After swatting away the cold arrow Xu Huo had fired, he turned to face Xiao Deng, catching the short knife thrust at him with both palms.
Xiao Deng’s face showed shock. Unable to pull the knife free, he used the momentum to spin and kick sideways at the cannibal player’s neck, but it only made the man stagger two steps. His knife was also taken!
“Whoosh!” Before he could retreat, the knife flew back from the cannibal player!
Xiao Deng dodged to avoid it, but the cannibal player moved faster, blocking his escape route. The two collided head-on, exchanging blows. The clear sound of cracking bones rang out!
At that moment, Xu Huo fired another poison arrow.
The cannibal player directly caught the arrow shaft, turned, and threw it back at Xu Huo, then leaped after it!
Xu Huo pulled up several Space Ray Blades, but he didn’t expect the opponent to be so agile. The man circled around from one side, grabbed the flying shuttle Jinjin Budao had released, yanked the thin metal cable behind it, and in two exchanges, forcefully dragged the player over!
-81 took advantage of his distraction, pulled out the short knife that had just been thrown, and swung it at the back of his neck.
“Boom!” A large stone flew out from the side, hitting -81 squarely. His score dropped to -91.
“Don’t think you’re the only ones with companions!” the burly man sneered. Three more players appeared quickly, including the one who had thrown the stone.
Four against four, the numbers were even.
Xu Huo’s side was clearly at a disadvantage, especially with an injured player. Xiao Deng immediately backed out, turned, and fled. -91 also bolted in another direction.
Xu Huo and Jinjin Budao naturally split up to escape as well. However, the four cannibal players didn’t chase Xu Huo; instead, they focused entirely on killing Jinjin Budao.
Jinjin Budao had 78 points. She was worth more than the other three combined, so it wasn’t surprising they were after her.
But Xu Huo’s luck seemed poor. He ran head-on into a large swarm of rapidly migrating venomous snakes.
The snake group covered too large an area. He had no choice but to turn back.
This brought him right into the middle of the five players already fighting. He grabbed a handful of venomous snakes and threw them out, immediately earning two deduction notifications. Two of the cannibal player’s companions were hit. Now they didn’t dare to fight the snakes head-on either and could only retreat.
The cannibal player glared viciously at Xu Huo, who had come along with the snake swarm, and chose to take cover in a tree to wait out the storm.
Xu Huo’s space power seemed useless for big moves, but it was enough to block the surrounding snakes. He moved along with the swarm, and no one wanted to gamble their luck in a place like Challenge Island, where medicine was scarce. So the others could only watch.
Xu Huo took the opportunity to bring Jinjin Budao along.
The people in the trees tried a few hidden weapons, but failing to hit, they could only watch them disappear into the distance.
Only after putting a significant distance between themselves and those people did Xu Huo leap out of the snake swarm.
Jinjin Budao’s wound had stopped bleeding, but she didn’t trust strangers. She immediately said, “Don’t kill me. I can tell you some rules of Challenge Island!”
“I wasn’t planning to kill you anyway.” Xu Huo let her go and assessed her complexion. “Can you hold on?”
Jinjin Budao took a deep breath. “Just a flesh wound. I’ll be fine after resting a bit.”
Just as she was about to sit down, Xu Huo suddenly said, “Wait a moment.”
Jinjin Budao was puzzled, then saw a thin arrow on the back of her hand. A notification sounded:
“Player Jinjin Budao has been injured. 10 points deducted.”
Under her wary and scrutinizing gaze, Xu Huo said, “This one isn’t poisoned. Pull it out yourself. If I’m not going to kill you, I have to get some points somehow.”
Jinjin Budao’s mouth twitched. After confirming it was indeed not poisoned, she relaxed slightly and added, “You can only injure me once per hour.”
Xu Huo nodded without surprise.
Jinjin Budao glanced at his score. “You saved me once. I’ll help you kill two players. By then, your points should be close.”
“How long can players who land on the island stay in the Fang Snake Zone?” Xu Huo asked.
“Not sure, but I’ve been here for three days,” Jinjin Budao said. “I heard that once you exceed 100 points, you can’t stay in the Fang Snake Zone anymore. You have to go to the Bear Hug Zone ahead. There’s a blockade line between the two zones. If you try to cross without enough points, it’s a death sentence.”
“Do you have a map?”
Jinjin Budao shook her head. “No need for a map. There’s a prompt when you reach the edge of the Bear Hug Zone. You’ll know when you see it.”
“There are less than five hours left.” Xu Huo pointed at his own head. “I need to clear the negative points first.”
“You sure are deep in debt,” Jinjin Budao said. “And your luck isn’t great either.”
“What do you mean?” Xu Huo asked.
“If the audience outside the arena likes you, their support can help you gain points,” Jinjin Budao said. “Many players’ scores skyrocket at the start because people bet on them. The more people who favor you, the higher your score. The higher your score, the easier it is to enter the Bear Hug Zone.”
“But relying on injuring others to exchange for points, back and forth, doesn’t get you much.”
Without items or instruments, whether you ambush others or get ambushed yourself was hard to say.
After a pause, Jinjin Budao added, “Your super evolution isn’t impressive, and your physical skills aren’t great either. You have no highlights, so there’s not much to watch.”
Xu Huo nodded. “So that cannibal player who gained points so fast—does that count as having highlights?”
Jinjin Budao’s expression was calm. “When players fight, if it’s not bloody and violent enough, what’s there to watch?”
Xu Huo relied on sneak attacks. It wasn’t exciting enough and was too roundabout. There were no ups and downs. Adding and subtracting 10 points at a time was completely boring.
“Then give me another 40 points,” he said unceremoniously.
Jinjin Budao’s calm face momentarily twisted. “I only have 68 left.”
“You won’t cross 100 anytime soon anyway,” Xu Huo said. “Besides, if we work together to kill others, you can get points too.”
Jinjin Budao was silent for a moment, then immediately said, “Even though our combat power isn’t strong right now, space evolution is an advantage. We can use the snake swarm like we just did.”
“Players aren’t immune to poison. Maybe we can actually poison one or two to death.”
Xu Huo agreed. “Do you know many poisonous creatures?”
He pulled out the remaining arrows.
Jinjin Budao was quite injured. Stopping the bleeding from a flesh wound wasn’t hard, but the bone wouldn’t heal completely in a short time. She guessed that Xu Huo wasn’t good at fighting, which was why he chose the roundabout method of making poison arrows. It also suited her current state.
“The poison from toxic plants is usually weak, but I’ve encountered the Howling Silver Poison Frog a few times. If that thing gets into a wound, without an antidote, even a player will be done for in a few minutes.”
“I’ll take you to where they appear.”
Xu Huo followed willingly.
