Chapter 2778: Game Items

Xu Huo caught her hand. "Look, do you still have a knife in your hand?"

The little girl looked at her hand in surprise, only to find that the knife had dissipated like smoke. She immediately reacted, "You're a Mental Evolver!"

Unable to shake off Xu Huo's grip, she could only command her terminal to send a distress signal. However, neither the terminal nor any voice-activated device responded. She looked up in shock, "It's you!"

Xu Huo looked down at her. "Where is Gu Hui Peak?"

The little girl's expression stiffened, but then he continued, "Don't think of using that as a bargaining chip. Compared to the secrets you carry, Gu Hui Peak is nothing. Even if I don't clear the instance, it's worth it."

The little girl's spirits, which had just perked up, deflated again. Seemingly due to genetic issues, the struggle had exhausted her. Her voice was low as she said, "He's locked in a room on the first floor. I can take you there."

Xu Huo nodded. "Good. Now we can talk about you."

The little girl didn't understand. "There's nothing to talk about. If you want to avenge those dead people, I didn't kill them."

"They were killed by you," Xu Huo said. "Because you were unhappy, they lost their lives. You should repent. So many people with beautiful lives died in vain because of a twisted person like you. Even suicide wouldn't be enough to atone."

"What right do you have!" the little girl screamed. "They deserved to die! Why do I have to live in such pain while they're so happy? Laughing in front of me is their crime!"

Xu Huo released one of her hands and looked down at her, as if seeing through her skin to her ugly heart.

"How dare you look at me like that!" the little girl was provoked. "You're just like the rest of them! As soon as you find out I'll never grow up, you look at me with that contemptuous, mocking gaze! I'm a person, not a monster!"

Xu Huo nodded. "You're very self-aware."

The little girl couldn't control her emotions anymore. She grew more and more agitated, her breathing becoming difficult, her face turning pale and her lips purple as she collapsed to the ground.

Xu Huo watched her coldly. Only when she was completely limp in his grip did he slowly say, "Since you're in so much pain, I'll do a good deed today and end this miserable life of yours."

White spiritual power flowed, slowly wrapping around her neck.

The little girl opened her eyes, swallowed her pride, and stood up, meeting his gaze. "You have no sympathy at all. Tell me what you want. My father can give you anything—items, instruments, money, or something else. Just let me go, and you can have whatever you want. Even if you want to be the next Grand Archon, he can pave the way for you."

"Saying that makes me curious," Xu Huo said. "Why does he give you everything you ask for?"

"He owes me." The little girl saw no need to hide it. "He was supposed to be the one who got sick, but he used medicine to delay the onset. That changed his body, and I was the unlucky one. My older brothers and sisters were fine, but I was the only one who would never grow up."

"That's not enough for him to unconditionally clean up your messes." Xu Huo stared at her, as if scrutinizing something.

Feeling the killing intent he was releasing, the little girl added, "Because his life is in my hands. I evolved a trait that can't kill others, but I can kill anyone related to me by blood at any time, anywhere."

"That doesn't make sense." Xu Huo shook his head slightly. "As long as you leave the game, the trait can no longer be used."

The little girl snorted. "That's because you're ignorant. A player's trait, when evolved to a certain level, can break free from the game's restrictions like Super Evolution. My trait is like that."

Xu Huo thought for a moment before saying, "That makes sense. Since you hate him so much, why don't you try it now?"

The little girl was stunned. "Do you think I'm stupid? What good would killing him do me now?"

"So it doesn't work." Xu Huo's expression showed he had seen through her little trick.

"What use is his life to you?" the little girl tried to persuade him. "Why not trade it for something else? Even if you want Primordial Stones or Super Items, I can get them for you. Those are more valuable to you..."

After listening to her rattle off several conditions, Xu Huo replied slowly, "You're not telling the truth. Your secret isn't killing blood relatives, but the darkness that lets you travel through space."

"You don't have the conditions to evolve your trait to the level of a Super Player. That's most likely not your trait either. Similarly, the possibility of Secondary Evolution power is very low."

"If it's not a trait or evolution power, then it should be an item or something else..."

The little girl's expression changed as Xu Huo analyzed her. She was used to doing whatever she wanted and had never truly faced a life-or-death crisis, so she couldn't hide it. She heard Xu Huo's voice gradually lower, but the content became more dangerous, making her involuntarily hold her breath to listen.

"Is it something the game gave you?" Xu Huo finally uttered the answer.

The little girl's whole body tensed, and she instinctively clamped her mouth shut.

Xu Huo smiled. The materialized spiritual power slowly tightened around her neck. "If I kill you, I should be able to inherit it."

The little girl's expression twisted in pain. "My father won't let you get away with this..."

"You live in this manor, and recently players have been sneaking in. But why hasn't your father sent other players to protect you?"

"Out of fatherly love, he might not be able to kill you with his own hands, but letting you die is much easier. Someone who can become a Grand Archon wouldn't keep a poison like you around forever, threatening himself."

The girl's face contorted, and she began to beg for mercy. "Don't kill me! I'll give you the thing!"

Seeing that Xu Huo was unmoved, she added, "It's a special item given by the game. Killing me won't let you inherit it. If I die, the game will reclaim it. Only if I transfer it to you can you get it!"

Xu Huo loosened his grip slightly. The little girl gasped for air, bent over, and coughed incessantly for a long time without stopping.

"What are you waiting for?" Xu Huo suddenly asked.

The little girl shuddered and looked at him in disbelief. "Is no one really coming to save me?"

"That boy named Xiaoxiao found you weren't in your room, but he didn't look for you and went back to sleep. Tiantian did look for you, but she went to the room of that crazy girl and said she was worried you might have had an accident. Which of those three do you think wants to save you?"

The little girl cried and cursed, calling them ungrateful and useless, then cursed her father for not sending anyone to protect her, and finally cursed Xu Huo for being a cold-blooded monster without a shred of sympathy.

When she finally tired herself out, she stopped, took a breath, and asked Xu Huo, "What does it feel like to grow up?"
