Chapter 2629: Spatial Power Surgery
Xu Huo's expression shifted slightly.
He was fairly accomplished in spatial evolution, so he naturally understood how difficult it was to control the spatial rays inside an object. The more complex the object, the harder it became. The human body was an exceptionally intricate structure, and it was already difficult to map out the spatial ray pathways within a living person. Simple destruction might be easier, but precisely manipulating the spatial power inside a human body for fine cutting and suturing increased the difficulty exponentially. Not to mention this was surgery on the heart, performed without any medical tools to assist. Gao Ming could actually use spatial power to such a masterful degree!
Without deliberately focusing his gaze on the tent, Xu Huo looked at the three players who had accompanied the child.
He hadn't seen the two older ones before, but the younger one happened to be the player he had helped out in Yunguan City. When he left, that player should have been picked up by members of the anti-government alliance. He hadn't expected an accident to occur.
"Those execution squad bastards are worse than animals!" the bearded man growled, guarding the tent as he anxiously waited and cursed.
His companion nudged him, indicating there was an outsider present, but the bearded man didn't even glance at Xu Huo and continued cursing the execution squad, saying they wouldn't even spare a child. To fish for information, they had planted a small explosive device inside the child's body, not only endangering the child's life but also injuring several adults.
"Are you alright?" Xu Huo poured a glass of water and handed it to the young player, who was crouched in a corner, holding his head and blaming himself.
The young player looked up, stared at him for several seconds before coming back to his senses. He didn't take the water but instead looked towards the tent, worried and scared. "Is the surgery over?"
"Not yet," Xu Huo placed the water aside. "But since you came to find Doctor Gao, you should trust his medical skills."
The young player looked lost. He clearly had no concept of Gao Ming's medical abilities and glanced fearfully at the other two players.
"Enough," the bearded man said irritably. "Don't look so downcast. The execution squad can pull any dirty trick. This isn't your fault. You just wanted to save someone."
"I'm sorry..." the young player choked out. "If I had been more alert, a bit stronger, this wouldn't have happened..."
The other tall player interrupted them. "Let's talk about this after the child is safe."
They sat in silence for another two hours before Gao Ming inside the tent finally breathed a sigh of relief. Using spatial power to thread a needle, he sutured the wounds on the child's skin.
After a while, he came out and said to everyone, "Someone needs to stay with him tonight. I'll make a list; you go buy the medicine."
The bearded man nodded repeatedly. After receiving the list, he hurried out to contact his companions. The tall player carefully inquired about the child's condition.
"...Fortunately, the sharp fragments from the explosion didn't completely pierce the heart. The child's strong reaction to the self-healing agent was lucky. The overgrown wound seemed to block the heart, but it actually bought time. Otherwise, by the time you found me, the child might not have made it."
Gao Ming paused, then added, "But you all need to be careful. If they won't even spare a child of a third-class resident, the Eternal Tower government's patience with you must be at its limit. Besides the rescued child, you need to thoroughly verify anyone who comes to seek refuge with you."
The tall player's gaze involuntarily flicked towards the young player before he subtly looked away. "Thank you. We'll be careful. As for troubling you again this time, I wonder if it will..."
Gao Ming raised his hand to stop him. "I'm just a doctor. I save people."
The tall player was grateful but still worried, hinting that Gao Ming could go with them to a safer place.
Gao Ming didn't directly respond to this. Instead, he turned and went back into the tent.
The tall player looked disappointed. He turned to the young player and said, "Go check if the medicine is ready..."
Before he could finish, the bearded man who had just gone out came crashing back into the house, door and all. The tall player's expression changed instantly. He quickly used a defense barrier to protect the tent. The tent was saved, but the front door of the wooden house was completely blown off, and half the house was gone. In the now open view, over a dozen players hovered above the village, looking down at everyone with contempt.
"Looks like we came to the wrong place," the leader said. He was the execution squad captain who had previously paraded the bodies of anti-government alliance members through the streets. This dark-skinned man showed no disappointment at seeing a village full of the old, weak, sick, and disabled. He just looked at them coldly and said flatly, "Kill them all."
The tall player, who had just pulled his companion up, changed color. He released a large-scale defense barrier while lunging towards the tent. His target wasn't the unconscious child, but Gao Ming.
Gao Ming had already stood up. Facing the man who seemed to be trying to rescue him, he gently tapped the man's hand. The tall player froze on the spot. At the same time, the outer defense barrier was broken. The bearded man, who had gone out to fight, was knocked back again after less than three seconds, crashing headfirst into the already damaged wooden house and rolling right to Gao Ming's feet.
Stepping around the bearded man, Gao Ming came to the front of the house and shouted, "Stop!"
The players who had already raised their blades to the villagers' necks all turned around. The dark-skinned big man said insincerely, "So it's Doctor Gao. You live here?"
"Are you a player? Can't you tell I'm inside?" Gao Ming countered, a hint of anger in his voice. "Five years ago, I reached an agreement with your Eternal Tower government. Your execution squad is not to set foot in my residence. And now you dare come here to kill people? Is Zhu Bu dead?"
The last sentence made the entire execution squad, including the dark-skinned big man, change color. "The fact that I'm still standing here talking to you should be enough for you to be grateful. Based on your attitude alone, your head should be rolling on the ground by now!"
Gao Ming was unafraid. "If the Eternal Tower hasn't changed hands, then you should listen to Zhu Bu. Otherwise, kill me now. But afterwards, I will definitely go and ask Zhu Bu if the words he said when I saved his life still count!"
The execution squad members all looked at the dark-skinned big man, but the latter didn't relent. "You're harboring members of the anti-government alliance."
"I don't know who they are. They brought a critically injured child seeking medical help. That's all." Gao Ming looked at them. "I heard the child was hurt by you. What does a child a few years old understand? You should save some good karma for yourselves."
"What does a child a few years old understand..." The veins on the dark-skinned big man's forehead bulged. "Children a few years old in the anti-government alliance dare to strap bombs and attack the execution squad. What kind of children are they?"
Gao Ming clearly didn't want to dwell on this topic. "You are what you are, so the children are what they are. Settle this among yourselves. Now leave!"
