Chapter 2265: The Standard for Becoming a Super Player
The player following behind Xu Huo showed surprise when he noticed him, but that quickly turned into fear as he saw the time currents around him moving in response to Xu Huo’s gestures!
Those who hadn’t undergone time evolution could only vaguely sense the changes in surrounding forces, but something as obvious as time currents was visible without careful perception. So this player had no idea how Xu Huo was controlling the time power, nor whether he was truly manipulating these time currents at will—he was simply instinctively terrified.
Driven by fear, he wanted to flee even more, and in his haste, he inevitably grew more careless. Facing an increasing number of time currents, this was not a wise move.
Before Xu Huo’s controlled time currents could catch up, two time currents in front of the player pierced through his body. The next second, the man vanished from the space, leaving only a few carried items and clothes falling to the ground.
Ignoring the dropped items, Xu Huo maintained a distance while interfering with all the time currents flying toward him. Of course, he couldn’t control all of this time power—he could only disrupt it, like diverting small streams from a torrent, barely altering their trajectories.
But this was a qualitative leap for him. Although this was a special venue, his changed understanding of time power made his perception of it clearer and sharper, vastly different from the evolutionary bottleneck he had faced before.
Attempting to confine a time current within a certain range, Xu Huo watched the time power flow back and forth under his guidance, a sense of joy rising within him. “Time power… truly marvelous.”
There were more than two or three players moving through the corridors. As the time currents spread to cover the entire spatial prison, all players were running back and forth. He stood in the middle of a walkway, blocking both sides, and quite a few players had gathered here.
Anyone passing by couldn’t help but pause at the sight.
Just then, the time currents in the space all came to a halt. They trembled in place for a few seconds before gradually splitting apart, forming tiny water cubes. Then, they all fell to the ground and completely disappeared.
The time current Xu Huo had been interfering with did the same.
The spatial prison suddenly became quiet and safe. All players stood still, on guard against any potential surprises.
Fortunately, the time power didn’t rebound. The spatial prison had returned to its original state.
“No way, this is the first time I’ve seen someone who can actually control time power!” A short man among the players not far from Xu Huo exclaimed in amazement and envy. Seeing Xu Huo turn around, he quickly added, “I mean no harm, just pure envy. I’ve heard of super players with temporal super evolution before, but that was too far from me—I never understood how it worked…”
He walked over to Xu Huo with familiarity. “Brother, can time evolution turn back the clock? Can you rewind this space to before we came in?”
“Time evolution isn’t becoming a god.” Xu Huo turned and walked away.
But the man spontaneously followed him. In fact, he wasn’t the only one—nearby players, for some reason, all kept a certain distance behind Xu Huo.
As luck would have it, they soon ran into Mi Qiaonan and Zhu Xiaojin. Before the two could figure out what was happening, the short man eagerly told them about his discovery and once again expressed his admiration and envy for Xu Huo.
“Super evolution really is a whole other world. I wish I could evolve too.” He looked around at the surrounding buildings with some helplessness. “But I just can’t break through that threshold.”
Of course, the vast majority of players hadn’t achieved super evolution.
“Don’t sell yourself short,” Zhu Xiaojin said with a smile. “Didn’t you still become a B-rank player without super evolution?”
The short man shook his head. “You don’t understand. Only by becoming a super evolver can you have a chance at becoming a super player. You have to touch at least one of the super evolution types, or else you’ll be stuck as an ordinary player forever.”
The mention of super players got everyone excited. Someone among the followers immediately spoke up. “Do you know the standard for becoming a super player?”
From E to A, the requirements for player upgrades weren’t entirely the same, but everyone had a rough idea that it was tied to instances. If the instance rating was high, fewer instances were needed for promotion; if low, more instances were required—it was just a matter of time. How many A-rank players were there in the current game world? Yet super players were still rare. If a zone had even one super player, even if its strength wasn’t top-tier, it could definitely defend itself. Ordinary people wouldn’t want to provoke a zone with a super player.
“How would I know the standard for super players?” The short man said with a hint of pride. “The game hasn’t announced the standard for super players yet. All we know is that only the best among A-rank players can become super players.”
“You look like you know some inside info. Spill it,” Mi Qiaonan couldn’t help but urge.
The short man chuckled. “Anyway, you’ll forget it all when you leave here. What difference does it make whether you know or not?”
He glanced at Xu Huo, paused for a moment, then said, “Anyway, I know that a super player must be a super evolver, but a super evolver isn’t necessarily a super player.”
“Isn’t that obvious?” Zhu Xiaojin scoffed. “There are so many super evolvers.”
The short man’s expression faltered for a moment, but he quickly continued, “Look at the game. Many top A-rank players can go toe-to-toe with super players, so why can’t they become super players? And among super players, there are plenty of wanted criminals. Logically, wanted criminals can’t level up, so why are there so many wanted criminals among super players?”
“Stop being cryptic,” Mi Qiaonan urged. “Spit it out.”
“It’s simple. Super players aren’t part of the player ranking system,” the short man said. “E to A are the ranks set by the game, but the title of super player has no specific measurement standard. It’s not that the more A-rank instances you clear, the more likely you are to become a super player. The title of super player is flexible—only the game knows.”
“Aren’t the other ranks also set by the game?” Zhu Xiaojin felt he hadn’t explained clearly.
“You still don’t get it?” The short man said. “What I mean is, for other ranks, the requirements for promotion are clearly priced. Even the instance ratings and scores involved in promotion can be summarized. In the end, this is still defined by people—or if not by people, then by humans controlling intelligent systems to calculate.”
“But super players are different. It’s like a hidden benefit. Who knows, maybe the requirements for each super player to qualify are different.” (End of chapter)
